Overview The IBM Datacap mobile app enables you to seamlessly capture, process, and upload documents to an IBM Datacap server. The IBM Datacap mobile app is compatible with the Apple iOS platform on iPhone and iPad, and with the Google Android platform on Android smartphone and tablet devices. To install and use the IBM Datacap mobile app, you must be using one of the following devices: 

An iPhone or iPad with iOS 8.0.0 or later



An Android device with Android 4.4 or later



A licensed version of IBM Datacap at version 9.0.0.1 or later

Downloading the IBM Datacap mobile app On your mobile device, download the IBM Datacap mobile app from one of the following sources: 

App Store on iTunes



Google Play



The Apple VPP Store via your company's administrator



Your internal Enterprise App Store via your company's administrator

IBM Datacap mobile app for iOS Logging in To log into the IBM Datacap mobile app: 1. Enter your desktop IBM Datacap Server URL. For example, enter one of the following URLs: 

Windows Service: http://IP_address:port/service



Internet Information Services: http://IP_address:port/ServicewTM.svc

Tip: The different URL endpoints depend on how Datacap Web Services was deployed. If adding /service to the end of your URL does not work, use /ServicewTM.svc instead. 2. Select the application that you want to use. Application settings are imported from your IBM Datacap Server. 3. Enter your desktop user name, password, and station ID. 4. Select the jobs icon. Jobs are preset in IBM Content Navigator. From a smartphone, the initial view displays the capture screen, where you can also access settings, the job queue, and your document library. In offline mode, this view also indicates the number of items in the queue that are waiting to be uploaded. On an iPad, in landscape mode, the split view displays the main navigation on the left and displays the capture view on the right side of the screen.

Changing the URL credentials After you log in to the IBM Datacap mobile app, you can change the URL credentials. To change the URL credentials: Important: Any outstanding batches in your jobs list will be removed once the server credentials have changed. 1. Tap the jobs icon in the top right hand corner of the screen and select Settings to display the server settings. 2. Change the URL by tapping on the URL field to input new credentials. 3. Press Connect. If you experience trouble logging into the application, contact your administrator or support team.

Sharing existing URL applications by email 1. Locate the current application URL on the Applications screen. 2. Swipe left on the application URL and tap Share. 3. Select the email application from the list provided on your device. 4. An email application window will open to allow you to share the existing URL.

Capturing images by using the device’s camera The IBM Datacap mobile app enables you to capture high-quality images with real-time edge detection and image processing. To capture images:

1. Open the IBM Datacap mobile app and log in. The first view is the camera screen. 2. Choose which type of document you want to capture next from the menu. 3. Choose Auto mode or Manual mode: If using Auto mode: 1. Focus on the image or document that you want to capture. Ensure that your document fills the view finder. 2. The IBM Datacap mobile app will monitor image quality and identify the edges of your document in real time before capturing the image. 3. If you have any problems capturing your document, you can use Manual mode.

If using Manual mode: Tap the shutter button to capture an image.

For each capture, a thumbnail of your captured image appears in the preview area.

Uploading images from the camera roll To upload images from the device’s camera roll: 1. Access your camera roll by tapping the image icon on the capture screen. 2. You can enable or remove access to your photos or videos by using the Privacy Settings on your device.

Uploading images from other applications on the device 1. Tap the image icon on the capture screen to view your applications. 2. Tap More under the image icon to manage which applications you want your device to access. 3. Select the image that you want to upload.

Uploading images to your IBM Datacap server To upload images to your IBM Datacap server: 1. Access your documents list by tapping the Next button on the capture screen. 2. In the documents list, tap the upload button to gain access to your job queue icon which will display current uploads.

Saving and editing images To save and edit images: 1. Tap the Next button on the capture screen to view the documents list. 2. Tap the Save button to save your images. 3. Tap on the job queue icon on the main capture screen to view your saved batches. 4. Tap on an image in the capture tray on the main capture screen to edit.

Post-processing and editing To process or edit your images: 1. Tap Next on the capture screen to access your Documents Library or tap on the image you want to edit directly from the capture tray.

2. Select the image that you want to edit 3. Tap the pencil icon in the corner of the image. You can deskew or rotate the image, and adjust the contrast and brightness of the image.

Running OCR To run OCR (Optical Character Recognition) on an image: 1. Select the image that you want to use in your Documents Library. 2. Select the type of document you want to use under Type. 3. Tap on the empty field of the document, below Type. 4. Select Read Text from the option list. 5. Use the Selection Box to select the information you want to recognize.

Running barcode recognition To run barcode recognition: 1. Select the image that you want to use in your Documents Library. 2. Select the type of document you want to use under Type. 3. Tap on the empty field of the document, below Type. 4. Select Read Barcode from the option list. 5. Choose Read from Camera or Read from Page from the option list. 

If you choose to read from the camera, manually scan the barcode from the selected document.



If you choose to read from the page, the device will auto-detect barcode from the selected document.

6. Barcode brings you back to the capture screen, where you can scan your barcode and upload it. The image is uploaded to the Documents Library.

Automated OCR If you have defined a template for running OCR in your application (see this topic in the Datacap knowledge center for how to do this) the field values are automatically populated based on the template in this view.

Barcode-based classification If you have configured your application with rules to perform automated classification / document separation (see this topic in the Datacap knowledge center for how to do this), the page type is automatically set and documents automatically separated.

Working offline You can use the IBM Datacap mobile app offline to process or update images that you have previously captured. New images that are captured offline with the IBM Datacap mobile app are queued until you are back online. To work offline: 1. Disable internet connectivity on your device (for example, by activating Airplane mode). 2. Update or capture images. The app notifies you that your action will be processed

after you are back online. 3. On the main capture screen, you can view batches and job ID numbers waiting to be processed. When you enable internet connectivity on your device, the app will then process your image.

IBM Datacap mobile app for Android Logging in To log into the IBM Datacap mobile app: 1. Enter your desktop IBM Datacap Server URL. For example, enter one of the following URLs: 

After you log in, the camera view (the capture screen) is displayed and you can begin capturing images. If you have already started working on capturing a set of documents (and if these documents have not been uploaded yet), the device displays the Document Library, which contains the list of captured documents.

Changing the URL credentials After you log in to the IBM Datacap mobile app, you can change the URL credentials. To change the URL credentials: Important: Any outstanding batches in your Local Documents list might not be uploaded successfully if the new server has different applications or configurations than the previous one. 1. Tap the settings icon in the top right hand corner of the screen to display the server settings. 2. Change the URL by tapping on the URL field to input new credentials, and continue with selecting the application and authenticating as before. Tip: When you have logged in successfully, your credentials are securely stored for future use. You do not need to log in again unless you need to change the server or application that you are working with. If you experience trouble logging into the application, contact your administrator or support team.

Sharing existing URL applications by email 1. Locate the current application URL on the Login screen. 2. Tap Share. 3. Select the email application from the list provided on your device. 4. The email application opens to allow you to share the existing URL.

Capturing images by using the device camera To capture images:

Using images from the photo gallery To use images from your device’s camera roll in your document set: 1. Tap Album in the capture screen. 2. Select one or more images. 3. These images will be added to the preview area.

Uploading images from other applications on the device 1. Tap Album in the capture screen. 2. Use the menu on the top left corner of the album to select images from a particular application.

Uploading images to the Datacap server To upload images to your IBM Datacap server: 1. Access your Document Library by tapping Next on the capture screen. 2. Tap Upload to queue this set of documents for upload. Tip: You will be shown a list of jobs to which this document set can be uploaded; this list is retrieved from your IBM Datacap Server. You must select a job that includes a batch creation task.

Saving and editing images To work with documents: 1. Access your Document Library by tapping Next on the capture screen. 2. You can add more documents, or delete or rearrange pages or documents. 3. You can change the types of pages or documents. 4. You can capture additional pages for the current document by tapping the camera icon, which opens the capture screen.

Post-processing and editing To process or edit your images:

1. Tap Next on the capture screen to access your Documents Library or tap on the image you want to edit directly from the capture tray. 2. Select the image that you want to edit. 3. Tap the pencil icon in the corner of the image. You can deskew or rotate the image, and adjust the contrast and brightness of the image. Tip: You can also access image editing features from the preview strip in the capture screen. Important: Your changes in image editing will not be saved until you tap Save.

Running Barcode recognition or Manual OCR 1. From the Document Library, select the image. A Field List opens, which displays the fields associated with this page. Tip: You can change the page type from the Field List or Document Library, or change the document type in the Document Library. 2. In the Field List, you can scroll through the list of fields, key in a value, or use OCR or barcode recognition. 

In OCR mode, you can zoom into the relevant text in the image and position the recognition zone by tapping or pressing on the page and resizing it appropriately. Then, tap Read to store the value in the current field.



In barcode mode, you can choose Read from Camera or Read from Page from the option list. o

If you choose to read from the camera, manually scan the barcode from the selected document.

o

If you choose to read from the page, the device will auto-detect the barcode from the selected document.

Automated OCR If you have defined a template for running OCR in your application (see Creating templates for automatic zonal OCR), the field values are automatically populated based on the template in this view. Tip: You can turn off automated OCR from the setting screen, accessible from the menu on any of the applications’ screens.

Barcode-based classification If you have configured your application with rules to perform automated classification / document separation (see Configuring barcode classification), the page type is automatically set and documents automatically separated. Tip: You can turn off automated barcode classification from the setting screen, accessible from the menu on any of the applications’ screens.

Working with Local Documents To work with multiple sets of captured documents: 1. From your Document Library, you can switch to the Local Documents view by using the menu. 2. In this view, you can remove these document sets or upload multiple document sets

at the same time. You can delete one or more of the document sets (batches). Important: Document sets that have already been queued cannot be modified.

Other App settings The application settings screen includes the following options: 

Change the compression on the captured images as they are uploaded to your server.



Turn on or off the automatic inclusion of the location where each image was captured (see Configuring geocoding and location).



Configure the language used for recognition.



Configure the country whose checks will be automatically recognized by the app. This requires that the Datacap application define a page level variable called ProcessChecks and set it to true. When a page with that variable set to true is captured, the check processing action for that country can be executed if the user clicks the check icon in the fields view.



Remember the target job selection for upload.

Working offline You can use the IBM Datacap mobile app offline to process or update images, capture additional images, or work with document sets. Any document sets that are uploaded in offline mode will fail to be uploaded; those document sets will need to be uploaded from the Local Documents screen when you are back online.
