Rods are constructed in hardened and tempered alloy steels with high strength (Rsmin ≥ 700 N/mm 2). These steels, in static stress conditions, at maximum pressure, provide safety coefficients higher than 4. For other characteristics see also table B005. In standard versions, rod and piston are mechanically coupled by a threaded connection, in which the thread on the rod is at least equal to thread KK, indicated in the table at the side. For single rod cylinders up to 80 mm bore, piston is screwed at the rod by a prefixed tightening torque which has to minimize the fatigue resistance troubles of the coupling: when ordering spare parts for bores from 25 to 80 mm, always order already prefixed rods and pistons. For the same reasons an appropriate tightening torque must be applied also to attachments which are applied to the screwed rod end. For cylinders whose bore is higher than 80 mm and for double rod cylinders which are subjected to fatigue stress, consult our technical office to verify working conditions.

In order to minimize turbolence, pressure drop and water hammer, the fluid speed in pipings connecting to the cylinder and on its ports should not exceed 6 m/sec: speeds relating to the rod are shown in the table at the side. In high dynamic systems, rods can reach even higher speeds (after a careful check of dampable masses according to the bore see table B005). In these cases it is recommended to employ pipings with a diameter which is longer than the cylinder oil ports and to employ proper reductions near the cylinders. By request, it is possible to furnish heads which are planned to use SAE 3000 or SAE 6000 flanges with the possibility of mounting pipes with a big internal diameter: for other details contact our technical office.

Cushioning execute a progressive damping action and is adjustable through specific recessed screws which are provided with unscrewing and expulsion prevention devices. Lc is the distance (measured from the mechanical end stroke of the cylinder) with which the progressive cushioning action ends (see figure): it is possible to supply two different executions with, respectively, 2 mm and 5 mm values of Lc (see section 1 for order codes).

The distances at the side refer to dimensions of CK and CH execution cylinders and coupling attachments. For rod end dimensions and centering for execution with attachment N, see table 8 . Notes: – EE - Oil ports and drain are threaded according to BSP standards with counterbore dimension D, conforming to DIN 3852-2 (wide serie). When oil ports are enlarged (see table section 5 for allowed positions), distances EE, PJ and Y are respectively modified to EE1, PJ2 and Y1 which are reported in the table below.

For rod speeds depending on oil port diameter, see table 9 and relative notes. – H - This oversizing size, on which there is the oil port (see design section 2), can be found only on the front head of 25 and 32 bores cylinders. In the same way, on CK 25 and 32 cylinders with differentiated rod if they are the cushionig regulation, there is an oversizing size (about 3 mm) on the front head. – M - For strokes longer than M , as indicated in the table at the side, one or more intermediate tie-rod supports are mounted on the housing, with dimensions ExE. – MT - Tightening tie-rod values [in Nm] for dry thread. – XV - For attachment L: the requested XV value must be included between XV min and XV max and must always be indicated to accompany the model code. If the stroke is shorter than the minimum value, which is reported in the table for attachment L executions, proper spacers are inserted, with the associated oversizing. – SPACERS: for strokes longer than 1000 mm there is the insertion of fitting spacers to increase the rod and the piston guide, protecting it from overload and early wear. The table below shows the recommended dimensions according to the stroke : for strokes longer than the ones shown in the table, consult our technical office. Spacers are normally omitted for strokes shorter than 1000 mm and for cylinders working in traction mode. Strokes [mm] spacer code length [mm]

CH execution cylinders can also be supplied with strokes shorter than the minimum ones which are indicated in the table at the side by providing the insertion of appropriate spacers.

The values reported at the side must always be added to stroke values and to any spacers in order to obtain the total effective dimensions (see designs section 2 and section 8). N.B.: - for strokes, consider the following tolerances: • 0+1,2 mm for strokes up to 1000 mm; • 0+2,5 mm for longer strokes. B137
