For the past two years, my full time position has been the Career Services Coordinator. I have a passion for health and fitness and I love helping others change their perspective on nutrition and exercise by educating them and helping transform the way they view themselves and their beliefs about exercise. I am a Certified Group Fitness Instructor through the American Council on Exercise and have held certifications in Les Mills Body Vive and Les Mills Born To Move children’s programs. For the past three years I have been instructing group fitness classes in Howard Payne’s Employee Wellness Program where we focus on creating a better quality life through improving our cardiorespiratory endurance and strength. We utilize the TRX, Kettlebells, Sandbags, Battle Ropes, Nautilus machines, and Free weights to execute functional training, high intensity interval training, and other methods to assist us in reaching our health and fitness goals. I am currently working on my Personal Trainer certification through the American Council on Exercise. I will graduate from Howard Payne in May 2017 with Bachelors in Kinesiology and a minor in psychology and plan to start the SWELL program in August 2017. Teresa Cavitt Teresa Cavitt is a native of the West Texas Community of Hart. She attended Wayland Baptist University, where she met and married her husband of 33 years, Ricky. He plans to invite some special guests at various times during the fall semester to enhance the programs value to campus employees!

Class reviews I have been an HPU employee since 2014. I have attempted several classes through the wellness center as well as spent time in the well-equipped gym. I never committed to the classes and was intimated by the gym not really knowing how to best use the machines. So you guessed it my fitness routine was pitiful to say the least. I have been working out with the HPU Health & Fitness Group since June 27, 2016. I started with the following issues and/or excuses (50 lbs overweight, arthritis in my back and knees. I have a rod and screw in my right leg, depression, age). Honestly I wasn’t sure if this was for me at all but I accepted the invitation to try 3 days a week what do I have to lose I can always quit-right? No discipline here. J Well, this has been a GREAT blessing, first Tammy Arreola trains with passion and works with you at your fitness level, but also pushes you with encouragement – but know she’s doesn’t let you cheat either. When you leave you have had a successful workout. Now, I anticipate and look forward to every class – what does she have for us today. We are never bored. Also, with the training I am no longer intimidated by the gym I confidently go even on off days and have a successful workout. Tammy trains you on each piece of equipment/exercise, what it is for, the proper technique and how to start and build endurance safely. She also teaches healthy eating habits and challenges you with short term that goals you can achieve if you do the work. So I can confidently say this class has busted ALL EXCUSES!! And I’M ON MY WAY…. Introduction of the wellness center The Howard Payne Employee program is located in the Elliston-Cassle building which is an elegant 25,000 square-feet building containing the Kinesiology department and gymnasium. It employs over 20 employees and boasts lots of activity.
