Task Analysis and Instructional Objectives Introduction Patterson EagleSoft is computer software used in most dental offices to help speed up the process of dental treatment for their patients. The dental team will be able to take digital xrays, use digital records instead of paper charts, use intra-oral camera, and do clinical exams using this software. This instructional unit will provide digital training for the dental team using Patterson EagleSoft.

Goal Statement Given the opportunity to adopt computer technology in the dental office, the dental hygiene students will be able to demonstrate their ability to 1) review patients’ medical history 2) perform a clinical exam 3) chart existing restorations and dental probe readings 4) record plaque scores, provide patient education, and fill out treatment plan, and 5) take digital x-rays using Patterson EagleSoft.

Below is an outline (flowchart) of the in-depth task analysis of subordinate skills and entry behaviors. Dental Hygiene student

My classification of the goal to this instructional unit is a domain of intellectual skills. I have classified it as this because the students will use their critical thinking skills to evaluate and enter the patient’s information into EagleSoft.

Review of Task Analysis by a Peer Evaluator I have asked my co-worker to help me review the task analysis for this program. She was pleased to help me analyze the steps and be able to provide the students with a good learning instructional tutorial. After reviewing the instructional goal, she agreed that having an instructional unit available for the students will really help them learn EagleSoft a lot quicker and with less confusion. Since some of the instructors are also having trouble understanding EagleSoft , my co-worker claims that not only will this tutorial help the students but it will help us, the instructors, understand it as well. She asked me to include the different tabs on the clinical exam which I had not included (TMJ, Head and Neck, & cancer). At first, I had only included “Clinical Exam.” I had also forgotten to include the last step which is the “Note History,” which of course is very important and she asked me to add it to the outline.

Summary The task analysis has been developed and the subordinate skills have been outlined to help improve the instructional strategy for the learners. In the next unit, IU3, the performance objective for each task and an assessment rubric for the instruction will be developed.
