How to Publish a Video

External publishing is a key function of Ensemble Video. The Publish form of the Add/Edit Wizard lets you specify one or more ways you want to publish or share your video. There are six publishing options within this form (explained below). When you arrive at the Publish form, the menu for the Playlists option will be maximized.

To publish your content (to another library or playlist outside of your own, via Shared Libraries; to other Users within your implementation of Ensemble Video; to Groups of users, as defined by your LDAP settings; or to your YouTube account) simply click the + icon, to the left of the publishing method of your choice (indicated by orange arrow, above). This will expand its menu. When finished, click Save and Publish. (Note: you can always return to the Publish form to make changes.)

PLAYLISTS This menu allows you to specify one or more Playlists and Categories where you want to share your video with your viewers. Simply check one or more content Categories for the Playlists where you want your content to be displayed. Once published, your item will be automatically syndicated to your Playlist(s). Playlists and Categories are managed in the Web Publishing Tab.

SHARED LIBRARIES This menu allows you to share your video with other Libraries and Playlists within your Ensemble Video implementation. Simply check the box for the Library/Playlist you want to share with. Note: a user within a particular library must grant you permission to share with them before the library appears on your Shared Playlists menu. Inter-library sharing/publishing is covered in the Set Up Sharing with other Media Libraries and Users support article.

USERS This menu allows you to share your video with other users within your Ensemble Video system. To begin, click Select Users.

Browse the All Libraries list, or refine it using the Filter Users textbox and dropdown menus. For example, you can type part of a person’s name into the Filter Users textbox, click Search, and the All Users list will refresh containing only Users who’s names contain the entered text. Simply click the checkbox beside the user(s) you wish to share your content with.

GROUPS This menu allows you to authorize only specific groups of users to view your media, based on their LDAP group, with a login form. For example, you might authorize only faculty to view a particular video. If you are an Ensemble Video Portal user, viewers on your Portal will have to log in, and will only be able to see the videos published to the LDAP group(s) they’re a part of. If you embed a secured video or send a permalink, viewers will have to log in before they can view the video. First, select the appropriate authentication source, using the dropdown menu (“ldap.ensemblevideo.com” in our example). A second dropdown menu will appear, allowing you to select your chosen LDAP group.

YOUTUBE This menu allows you to seamlessly push content to one or more YouTube channels. (See page 31 of this guide to learn how to add a YouTube channel to your publishing options.) You can also un-publish and delete these videos without signing into your YouTube channel (and retain your content in your Ensemble Library). To add your video to YouTube, simply check the box next to one or more YouTube channels you have configured (more on this in the Web Publishing section of this guide.) Your entry will appear on your YouTube channel once uploaded and processed by YouTube. Once you have finished, click Save and Publish. Note: you can return to the Publish form at any time to make changes.

A few notes about what happens to your video after you publish it to YouTube: •

Your video will be set to Private, by default. If you wish to make your video Public, you will need to change its privacy setting on YouTube, using your Video Manager.

YouTube may limit video length. If your video is longer than 15 minutes, you will have to “Verify” your account on YouTube before you can publish your video. You will see an alert in your YouTube Video Manager, along with instructions on how to Verify your account.

SOCIAL SHARING This menu provides easy sharing options for popular social media outlets, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, and Google+. You can also share media to email addresses.

To share, simply click the social media icon of your choice, and a popup or browser window will appear allowing you to share your content. You must be signed into your social media account, before you can share your video. You can also use this menu to email the URL for your media to recipients of your choice.
