Register at your local library to get the official notebook and stickers. 2. Track your reading for a chance to win great prizes. 3. Discover great programming and reading adventures.

How to Participate Registration Ready to join? Here's how to get started: 1. Make sure you have a valid library card.If you don't, it’s no problem: getting a card is completely free, just head over to your local library branch. 2. Visit any Greater Sudbury Public Library branch to register for the TD Summer Reading Club. We will use your library card to register you and will give you a kit with everything you need to get started. 3. Now, you can register for all the free activities and events taking place throughout the summer. (Program registration required due to space limitations)

Read and Win Each child that registers will receive an official TD Summer Reading Club booklet, to track the books they’ve read. Remember to always bring your booklet to the library to receive a stamp for each book read. Once you’ve filled out two pages worth of books read (or one page for older kids reading longer books), you may choose a small Reading Prize. Participants will also get a stamp in their booklet for completing the special challenge while at the library, which can be found at the bottom of each page of your booklet. (Don’t forget your booklet, so you can receive your stamp!) Reading Prizes - To encourage kids to use their TD Summer Reading Club booklets, this year we will be offering small reading prizes when the child shows their tracked readings in the booklets. Grand Prizes - When participants register for the TD Summer Reading Club, they will receive a ballot for the end of summer Grand Prize. To encourage extra visits to the library, each child also gets a ballot for a chance to win the Grand Prize everytime they visit the library.

TD Summer Reading Club This program is designed to keep kids reading over the summer by offering a fun club with games, prizes, activities and more reasons to read. Research proves that reading over the summer helps kids when they return to school and of course strong literacy skills help children throughout their lives. Besides, who wouldn't want to come and imagine, create, sing, dance, and just have fun?

Christopher Healy Author Skype Talk: Join the author of the Hero’s Guide Trilogy for a discussion on how books are made and to learn about the writing process. Cartoon Illustration Workshop & Author Visit with Darryl Salmaso: This illustration workshop will provide children the opportunity to explore their creativity and have fun developing their own cartoon characters.

Scribble Time for Preschoolers: Join us for an hour filled with stories, songs and scribbling outside the lines. Story Time Tales with Tammy: Nurture your child's love of books and reading by joining us for an interactive story time at the New Sudbury and South End Library. Fun in the Park: GSPL staff will be joining the Best Start Hubs for some outdoor fun @ 10:30 AM at various locations. Some locations will offer French only programs.

9+ Programs: Build your own Instrument with Maker in Residence Create your own musical shaker using wood and rice. Children will learn how to use the rivet tool. Build a Wooden Marble Maze with Maker-in-Residence Using press board, carpentry glue and wood scraps children will create their very own wooden marble maze. littleBits Makerspace Workshop: Create and learn using LittleBits. What are they? Electronic building blocks that snap together with magnets: no soldering, no wiring and no programming required!

Graphic Novel Workshop with Chad Soloman: How to create a graphic novel page based on the 7 Grandfather Teachings. The idea is to create a single graphic novel page, from story concept to page layout, from the students own personal experiences and imagination and connect the story to the 7 Grandfather Teachings. Ekphrastic Poetry Workshop with Poet Laureate Kim Fahner: Join our city’s Poet Laureate to explore poetry that is inspired by, and comments on, visual art. Terry Lynn Johnson Author Talk & Sled Dog Demonstration: Ever wondered what it's like to be an author? Or have you ever wanted to try mushing a team of sled dogs? Terry Lynn Johnson, the author of Ice Dogs and several forthcoming novels for young readers, talks about how she got started writing, and shows actual pages from her editor. She'll also bring some of her dogsledding gear, explain how sled dogs are trained, and share some mushing stories. Writing Workshop with Creepy Capreol: Join Matthew Del Papa for a workshop based on the recent short story collection, Creepy Capreol Jr. which features stories from young authors ranged in age from 6 to 18 and whose stories contain everything from monsters to serial killers to bully-avenging ghosts. Pioneer Workshops with Greater Sudbury Museums: Join the Greater Sudbury Museum staff at the Anderson Farm Museum to discover some fun heritage crafts such as hand made paper and candle making. Books Alive All-Day Drama Workshop: Local playwright Val MacMenemy presents this all-day drama workshop that will teach children to explore drama, movement, music and sound effects using mask and costumes.

Wild About Magic with The Amazing René: The Amazing René presents an Under the Big Top circus show. Wild About Animals: Sudbury Party Animals offers guests the chance to learn about animals during an interactive hour-long show! Wild About Music with Rodney Brown: Rodney’s children's concerts are loads of fun for people of all ages.. Northern Ontario themes with guitar and banjo, Rodney sings an Ojibwe version of 'Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star' and delights his audience with a rock and roll impromptu rhythm band. Wild about Puppets with Rabbit and Bear Paws: In this interactive puppet theater called Rabbit and Bear Paws: The Way, we retell the story of how the Turtle carries our world on her back and how the tiny muskrat succeed in giving all of us the greatest gift of all. A place to call home, Turtle Island.

Special guests will be announced soon! Wild about Kratz: Are you wild about creatures? Join our adventure and challenge yourself to discover what creature powers you have. Wild about Challenges: Can you win it in a minute? Take part in several “minute to win it” challenges to see if you have what it takes. Have fun and bring a friend along to challenge. Wild about Stories: Create a story and draw wild animals for the cover. Let your imagination run wild in this fun literacy based program. Wild about Balloons: Summer fun will fly sky high with different balloon activities. Pop by and keep your amusement afloat. Wild about Pokémon: Come and test your Pokémon skills at the library. GSPL is hosting a Pokémon Battle Tournament. Participants will go head-to-head using their 2ds or 3ds system Windy Lake Campfire stories: Join us for stories around the campfire in the great outdoors at the Provincial Park. Park is free all day for families to come earlier. Wild About Space with the Ontario Planetarium: Come to the library for a show featuring space and science in a 10foot mobile planetarium, presented by the Ontario Planetarium. Families must register for showings in advance to secure time slot. Fresh Air Flicks: Grab a blanket and chair for an outdoor showing of the Jungle Book 2016-PG, starting at dusk.

Wild About Drama with the Story Tent: Join the drama of interactive story-telling with Val MacNenemy in the Story Tent. Bring your favourite toy animal to the library and listen to, and participate in, Oi! Get Off Our Train by award-winning author John Burningham. Wild About Writing: Local author Johanna Westby (author and illustrator of The Day I went Fishing on Lake Wanapitei and Fire in the Forest) will do a reading and visit to talk about what it’s like to be an author and discuss her two books. Wild About Science with Let’s Talk Science: This program is a bilingual science presentation by Cambrian College students. It has a wide variety of meaningful science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) learning experiences incorporated into some fun activities. Wild About Twitch and Fidget: Join Darryl Salmaso, author and illustrator of Twitch and Fidget (a story about two woodland animals that live in the forests of Northern Ontario) for a reading and discussion about illustrating cartoon animals. (FR) Wild About Creative Journaling: French program where youth will learn to combine art and words to express themselves in a colourful journal. Wild about Foxes with Danielle Daniel: Join local author and illustrator Danielle Daniel to talk about her book Sometimes I Feel Like a Fox and learn more about what she does and how she does it. Wild About Alpacas: Join us for a visit from the Dare2Dream Alpaca Farm & Sandy Loam Produce. They will be bringing one of their alpacas and talking about the process to make the wool and knitted products Wild About Mr. Mark’s Music: Whether you're singing the praises of Macaroni and Cheese or bouncing to the beat of the Bucketheads, you'll wind up wigglin' and gigglin' and wanting more Mr Mark. Armed with a truckload of instruments and enthusiasm, this music show comes all the way from Manitoba.
