These instructions are for PCs with Windows Vista installed. Some steps may vary slightly if you have a different Windows Operating System.

Currently, there is NO RENEW OPTION on Overdrive. In order to borrow your Audiobook again, you will have to repeat the BORROWING PROCESS as outlined below.

SETUP INSTRUCTIONS How to Download Overdrive Media Console (OMC) 1. Go to www.westlakelibrary.org 2. Click on the yellow Download Box to go to the library’s Downloadables page 3. Click on the Overdrive Logo (Fig. 1) 4. Under Digital Software, click on Overdrive Media Console 5. Choose the operating system for your desktop 6. Click on Download Now (Fig. 2) 7. A setup box will open. Click Save File (Fig. 3) Fig. 1

SETUP INSTRUCTIONS How to Download OMC Continued: 8. A new box will open. Make sure you save the file to your desktop for easy access 9. Click Save 10. A Downloads window will open. Double click the ODMediaConsoleSetup.msi file (Fig. 1) 11. Click Run 12. The Overdrive Setup Wizard will open (Fig. 2) 13. Click Next 14. In the License Agreement Window, click on “I Agree” then click Next (Fig. 3) Fig. 1

SETUP INSTRUCTIONS How to Download (OMC) Continued: 15. Under the Select Installation Folder Window, click Next 16. Click Next to Confirm Installation (Fig. 1) 17. A window will open indicating the status of the OMC download 18. Click Close when Installation is Complete (Fig. 2)

CHECKOUT INSTRUCTIONS Downloadable Audiobooks come in 2 formats: MP3 and WMA.

STEP A: How to Browse/Search for Audiobooks (PART 1)  Go to overdrive.westlakelibrary.org  If you know the title or author of the book you are looking for, type the title/author under Quick Search and click “Go” (This will generate a list of eBooks and Audiobooks. Make sure you choose the Audiobook version)  If you’d like to BROWSE, you can do it in two ways: 1. BROAD SEARCH: this will list all the Audiobook titles we own (includes titles that are checked out and titles that are available to borrow right now)  Click View All WMA Audiobooks to view our WMA collection  Click View All MP3 Audiobooks to view our MP3 collection  Titles are sorted according to the Date they were Added to the library’s collection. Click the appropriate tabs to sort the titles by Title, Creator, Release Date, Most Popular

CHECKOUT INSTRUCTIONS STEP A: How to Browse/Search for Audiobooks (PART 2)  BROWSING Continued: 2. FOCUSED SEARCH: this will list Audiobook titles available for you to borrow RIGHT NOW  Click Advanced Search  Under Format, click the drop down arrow  Choose Overdrive MP3 Audiobook or Overdrive WMA Audiobook  Click the other drop down menus if you’d like to further narrow your options by Subject, Publisher, Date Added to Site  Click the box next to “Only show titles with copies available” (this eliminates titles that are already checked out by other patrons)  Click “Search”  A list of available Audiobook titles will be generated

CHECKOUT INSTRUCTIONS STEP B: How to Checkout 1. Once you’ve chosen your book, click “Add to eBookbag” 2. WISH LIST: Any time during the browsing process, you can add Audiobooks to your Wish List by clicking on “Add to Wish List.” This list will keep track of audiobooks you may want to borrow in the future. It will NOT put items on hold or check them out. To do that, you would have to click on “Place a hold” or “Add to eBookbag.” 3. Click “Proceed to checkout” unless you want to keep browsing (Fig. 1) 4. Type in your library card number (starts with pppl and is 14 characters long, no spaces, no need to capitalize) 5. Click Sign In 6. If you’d like to change the Lending Period (7 day, 14 day, 21 day), click the drop down menu 7. If you change your mind or if you make a mistake, click Remove to remove the Audiobook from your eBookbag (Fig. 2) 8. Click “Confirm checkout” Fig. 1

CHECKOUT INSTRUCTIONS STEP C: How to Download 1. After checking out, click on Download 2. A new box will open. Choose “Open with Overdrive Media Console” 3. Click OK when the next box opens (Fig. 1) 4. Another box will list the various parts of the audiobook you’ve checked out. We recommend downloading 1 or 2 parts at a time because internet connections often time out and in the process, files get corrupted or damaged. (Fig. 2) 5. Uncheck All then check the respective boxes next to parts 1 and 2. Click OK 6. Download will begin. Check the status bar to see the progress of your download. 7. After the first parts are downloaded, click Download to start downloading the next batch. 8. Repeat this process until all parts have been downloaded. 9. Click Play to listen to your Audiobook Fig. 1

CHECKOUT INSTRUCTIONS STEP D: How to Place a Hold 1. If the Audiobook you’d like to borrow is currently checked out, you will see the “Place a Hold” button, instead of “Add to eBookbag” 2. Click “Place a Hold” 3. Type in your library card number (if you haven’t already) and click “Sign In” 4. You will be prompted to type in your email address twice (Fig. 1) 5. Click “Place a Hold” 6. You will receive an email when the selected title becomes available for checkout 7. You will have 3 days to check out the selected title, once you receive the email

CHECKOUT INSTRUCTIONS STEP E: How to Retrieve Audiobooks on Hold 1. When the Audiobook you reserved becomes available, a message will be sent to the email you specified during the Place Hold process (Fig. 1) 2. A link to the library’s digital website will appear in the email. Click on this link (Fig. 1) 3. From the library’s digital site, click My Account 4. Type in your library card number then click Sign In 5. A list of options will be displayed (Fig. 2), then:  Click My Holds  Click Add to eBookbag  Follow the checkout procedure as outlined above

Go to overdrive.westlakelibrary.org Click on My Account Type in your library card number and log in (unless you’ve logged in already) A list of options will be displayed Click on My Checkouts to see what you’ve checked out or if you need to redownload your Audiobook 6. Click on “My Holds” to download Audiobooks you’ve placed on hold 7. Click on “My Wish List” to display Audiobooks you’ve added to your Wish List. If you’d like to check out a book from this list, just tap “Add to eBookbag” and follow the checkout procedures.
