Class 133 Show recipe - Six Multi coloured Macarons (We suggest that you make 3 different flavours/colours.) Recipe: 3 large egg whites 125 gms ground almonds 75 gms caster sugar 175 gms icing sugar Buttercream filling 150 gms icing sugar 75 gms butter Flavouring and colouring of your choice. Method  Preheat oven, gas 3, 160 deg c, 140 deg c fan.  Line baking sheets with baking paper.  Put icing sugar and ground almonds into food processor and process into a fine powder. Divide into 3 equal portions.  Whisk egg whites until they form soft peaks, whisk in caster sugar until the mixture is smooth and glossy.  Divide mixture into different bowls and add flavourings and colourings.  Fold the almond/icing sugar mixture into each bowl, until the mixture is shiny and falls from the spatula.  Spoon the mixture into piping bags with a 1cm plain nozzle.  Pipe small rounds of the mixture onto the baking paper. The Macarons should be approx. 3cms diameter.  Leave to stand for approx. 15 minutes until the Macarons form a ‘skin.’  Bake for 15 minutes. Allow to cool.

 

Make buttercream, adding flavouring and colouring as desired. Sandwich pairs of Macarons together with buttercream to serve.

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE / TOWNS WOMEN’S GUILD CHALLENGE The WI/TG Challenge at the Show continues to go from strength to strength. Entry is open to Women’s Institutes and Townswomen’s Guilds in the area, and we hope that you will be able to participate. The theme for this year’s entry is: ‘The Queen’s 90th Birthday Celebrations’. Your display must include the following items:      

A selection of mini savoury tartlets A celebration birthday cake A bottle of home-made lemonade A 90th Birthday card A celebratory embellished cushion A posy of garden flowers

You will be allocated a table (180 x 60cms / 6 x 2ft) for your entry. The entries will be judged by our cookery/flower and handicraft judges, with a mark also being awarded for presentation. We suggest that you bring a decorative table cloth to enhance your display, this will be judged in the ‘presentation’ category. The WI Challenge trophy will be awarded to the winning Women’s Institute/ Townswomen’s Guild.
