as well as self-contained breathing apparatus for a wide range of emergency escape solutions. When air becomes polluted by gases, vapours, chemical or biological aerosols, or even depleted of oxygen, the use of respiratory protection becomes a must. When such health hazards occur unexpectedly, a quick and safe escape becomes critical. In this catalogue, Honeywell offers you a wide range of escape products designed to give you many options for respiratory protection and escape solutions in a variety of environments.
Respiratory Protection General Rules All respirators are compliant with the most stringent European and American standards ensuring that products provide the highest level of protection against hazards In general, respiratory protective products are designed and manufactured for: •P rotection against particles, fumes, liquid aerosols or gases and vapours • To fully isolate the user from the ambient air and thereby offer protection against a wide range of contaminants
Criteria for selecting Respiratory Equipment* • Oxygen level • Knowledge of toxicity
•O dor • Risk of an explosive atmosphere (ATEX)
Composition of the air 1%

• Uncertainty about the risk • No detectable odur
*Criteria based on EN levels for O2 concentration. NIOSH level for O2 concentration is different – Please check local regulations in force.
ATEX risk
Oxygen Deficiency: Risk of Death •O xygen plays a vital role in the respiratory system of a human being • It is the oxygen level in the immediate ambient air that will mainly determine the choice of respiratory equipment: self-contained or filtration
Evaluation of Exposure Risk • • • • •
xygen level O Nature, form and effects of contaminants Knowledge of the levels of contamination present in the workplace and the Workplace Exposure Limits set for those contaminants Consideration of other associated hazards (Explosive Atmosphere Risk) Duration of use of the respirator
Classification of toxic contaminants Solid and liquid aerosols: they can be of different types
Troublesome Causing allergies or irritations Causing lung damage Whatever the particle size, the risks can be significant depending on the exposure time. The increasing use of liquid aerosols requires the use of suitable protection according to the nature of the aerosol used and the composition of the product applied.
Gas – Fumes: the appropriate filter must be selected for each contaminant A AX

Gas Detection Honeywell Gas Detection Industrial processes increasingly involve the use and manufacture of highly dangerous substances, particularly flammable, toxic and oxygen gases. Inevitably, occasional escapes of gas occur, which create a potential hazard to the industrial plant, its employees and people living nearby. Worldwide incidents, involving asphyxiation, explosions and loss of life, are a constant reminder of this problem In most industries, one of the key parts of any safety plan for reducing risks to personnel and plant is the use of early-warning devices such as fixed and portable gas detectors. Portable gas detectors are used for stratified testing of locations like confined spaces, before entry and they also provide continuous monitoring of a worker's breathing zone. They are essential components of PPE and alert to the presence of dangerous gases assisting with safe emergency escape. Honeywell Gas Detection (comprising the brands BW Technologies by Honeywell and Honeywell Analytics), has over 50 years experience delivering fixed and portable gas detection solutions designed to meet diverse application needs. Honeywell Gas Detection offers a comprehensive range of single-gas and multi-gas portable monitors (field serviceable and disposable), designed to enhance safety and reduce the ongoing cost of gas detection though intuitive, user-friendly use. Honeywell's in-depth knowledge and understanding of customer needs helps to drive innovative detection solutions that can meet the demands of even the most challenging applications.

Confined spaces can be below or above ground but has limited or restricted means for entry or exit, and it is not designed for continuous employee occupancy. A confined space, despite its name, is not necessarily small and examples include, but are not limited to underground vaults, tanks, storage bins, manholes, pits, silos, process vessels, and pipelines.
