‘’Holiday Greetings 2016’’ ‘’What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.(Nelson Mandela)’’ Dear Friend and Supporter, As we are approaching the end of the year 2016, the community of Bethsaida Orphans Education Centre and Bethsaida Girls Secondary School would like to express our sincere gratitude for supporting us from the very beginning of this year to this date. Despite the challenges we faced during the period of our operations to help educating Tanzanian young girls who are orphans in need with no relatives to help them, there are also successful stories to share with you as follow; 16 students out of the 24 students who finished Form IV in 2015 have been selected to join different High Schools in July, 2016 while others have joined different colleges, including Nursing, Teaching and Business Colleges.

Students who completed Form IV in 2015 and some of them joined high schools and colleges in July 2016

Seven former Bethsaida students who finished Form 6 in May, 2016 this year have been selected join Universities, including University of Dodoma, Tanzania Institute of Accountancy, National Institute of Transport, Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences, Institute of Finance Management and St.Joseph University of Tanzania. .

On 8th October, 2016, we held the 8th Form IV Graduation Ceremony in which we gathered all Bethsaida Former Staff, Students and Supporters to celebrate together the achievements of the centre We have also rehabilitated toilets and bathrooms in four dormitories for students’ shelter, providing a conducive environment for improving their health and academic performance in both internal and external examinations.

Our fundraising efforts The school has a few small income generating projects implemented by the pupils as part of Education for Self Reliance. The projects include: a) The Vegetable Garden The school has a vegetable garden that is very well tended by the pupils. The various vegetables produced are used by the pupils. b) The Cards Project The Cards Project was established in order to help get part of the teachers’ stipends. Pupils make greeting and seasonal cards as well as those for various other occasions in

accordance with customer needs. The Cards are sold within the country at TShs.4,000/= and exported to United States, United Arab Emirates(U.A.E) and German at US$ 2. From the beginning of this year to date the project has generated the sum of TZS 8,520,600/= compared to TZS 6,424,350/= in 2015

Christmas Cards made by our students and available for sale to support teachers’ salary c) The Fish Pond The Fish Pond provides several fish meals for the pupils and staff every year. However, last year all the fish from the pond were stolen by way of drug - fishing that was done at night. We need to fence and guard the fish pond.

Our Current Needs Currently the centre is striving to solicit funds through annual sponsorship of a student (s) by individual donor, Organization or Company, so as to support operating costs, such as teachers’ salaries and administrative costs, as well as personal expenses for the girls. This support is needed due to the fact that the students do not pay any kind of tuition fees or up-keep cost while at school. Any small contribution can help. The following is the annual estimate cost for one student at our school effectively from January,2016.
