Ports open to cruise ships in Hokkaido Hokkaido has 15 major ports open to ocean-going cruise ships. The table below shows the names of ports and records of cruise ship visits between 1998 and 2001, during which time over 44,000 visitors came to Hokkaido via cruise ship.

As the figures below indicate, in 2002, Hokkaido played host to approximately 6.6 million domestic and foreign tourists. It is widely known as one of the most rewarding tourist destinations in Japan.
