Various partnerships being formed with local politicos and community groups and service organizations for grant applications. Specific projects aimed at reducing the community’s ecological footprint; rehabilitating existing housing stock; improving existing parks and/or creating new parks/urban farms on vacant lots; and promoting green/sustainable business development. Current Projects: Maplewood Mall Master Planning and Germantown Commercial Corridor Master Planning (2009—)  Developed Residential and Commercial Stormwater BMPs for Various Urban Typologies as part of the East Falls Model Neighborhood Stormwater Project. In partnership with East Falls Development Corporation, Pennsylvania Horticulture Society, Philadelphia Water Department and EPA Region III; two William Penn Foundation grants awarded to date to the partnership for $33,000 and $330,000; this project was integrated into three landscape architecture studios/courses for BMP development and design projects; plus two landscape architecture students have had paid internships through the grants over the last two years. Participated in Professional Design Charrette (2006-2009).  Developed and administered a questionnaire to determine “The Role of Sustainable Design in Landscape Architecture Missions and Curricula.” Survey sent to all US and Canadian Landscape Architecture programs. Results presented at three conferences and published in CELA Conference Proceedings (2009) (peer-reviewed paper). Supported by Philadelphia University Faculty Research, Scholarship and Design Grant ($4500) (2006-08).  Planning and design of cohousing options based on sustainable design principles for the Middle East neighborhood, southeast Baltimore. Working in conjunction with the Cohousing Network. The joint goal is to develop an urban cohousing model for lower income neighborhoods—grant application pending. C LAUDIA G O ETZ P HILLIPS , P H .D., ASLA E NVIRONMENTAL Major Projects (cont.): A SSESSMENT Development of Master Plans/site designs for various greenways within E XPERIENCE Baltimore City. Connections: Gwynns Falls Greenway to BWI Trail: completed an extensive inventory and analysis process, developed a master plan and trail head designs; much of research and design work completed as part of Studio III—Nature in the City. Client: City of Baltimore Planning Department (2003). Herring Run Watershed Greenway: completed an extensive inventory and analysis process, developed a master plan and created numerous site-specific design concepts for a greenway within the Herring Run watershed; much of the research and design work completed as part of Studio III—Nature in the City (2002). Client: City of Baltimore and Herring Run Watershed Association. Jones Falls Valley Greenway: completed an extensive inventory and analysis process, developed a master plan and created numerous site-specific design concepts for a greenway for the Jones Falls Valley corridor; much of the research and design work completed as part of Studio III—Nature in the City. Client: Greater Homewood Community Corporation, Inc. (1999).Transportation Hub Location and Design Based on Sustainable Development Principles. Through consecutive National Transportation Center grants ($85,000 and $90,000), an alternative transportation planning model was developed—based on sustainable community based criteria—for selecting and designing potential transit corridors and hubs as part of a larger, fully integrated, community-based transit system. This project also created tangible strategies for developing the northwest corridor in Baltimore as a viable alternative for not only connecting residents/potential users with employment opportunities within the city, but also for creating employment opportunities and commercial centers within neighborhoods/communities along the proposed transit lines (2000-02). Other Projects:  Research and development of sustainable design indicators that complement existing environmental, economic and social indicators (Ongoing).  Development of evaluation criteria and survey methodology, and development of an interactive computer model for the Virginia Streetscapes Project. Client: Community Design Assistance Center, Virginia Tech (1998-2000).  Watershed Management Plan for Stroubles Creek, Blacksburg, VA; Dept. of Urban Affairs & Planning, Virginia Tech (1993).  Campus Master Plan for the present and future growth of Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton, FL; Landscape Architecture Dept., University of Florida (1990).  Environmental Consultant and Technical Advisor to Morgan State University, Design & Construction Management, Baltimore (1998-2004).  Consultant and Technical Advisor to the Herring Run Watershed Association, Baltimore (1998-2003).  Consultant and Technical Advisor for West Virginia New River Parkway EIS; WV Dept. of Highways/ Community Design Assistance Center, Virginia Tech (19951996).  Researcher, Section Author, and Editor, West Virginia New River Parkway Draft EIS; WV Dept. of Highways/Community Design Assistance Center, Virginia Tech (1992).  Researcher and Author of 75 summary reviews of human impacts on the hydrology of wetlands; Center for Wetlands, University of Florida (1990).  Documents Preparation Coordinator, Editor and Section Author of environmental documents (e.g., EISs, EAs): Continental Shelf Associates, Jupiter, FL (1976-1985).
