The house boasts a romantic history due to the elopement of Polly Smith, daughter of the Castle's builder, General Daniel Smith. Andrew Jackson helped Polly elope by bringing a ladder to her bedroom window, where she climbed down and travelled to the Jackson's home. There she married Samuel Donelson, Rachel Jackson's favorite brother.

With all Rock Castle has to offer, it has become a popular wedding site. In addition to being situated on Old Hickory Lake, the property consist of 18 acres with more than enough room for both the wedding and the reception. The nearby Visitor's Center offers the bride and her party an inviting place to dress and wait for the ceremony to begin. Many couples choose to marry in front of the Castle, which makes a perfect setting for photographs. Others choose to have their ceremony and reception by the lake under elegant tents with a romantic sunset.
