Mr. Christopher O. Ward Executive Director Port Authority of New York and New Jersey 225 Park Avenue, 15 1h Floor New York, NY 10003 Dear Mr. Ward, This letter is to inform you of our interest to obtain a piece of steel from the World Trade Center. We intend to use the beam to suspend an American flag as part of our Court of Valor Memorial, which will be unveiled in 2009. If this request is fulfilled, it would be an honor to continue our legacy of patriotic awareness in York County, Pennsylvania. We are a non-profit organization that has dedicated itself to preserving the historic heritage of Prospect Hill Cemetery. This historic landmark, which was founded in 1849, is the final resting place for patriots from every war in which our country has participated. The historic graves of Civil War Union Corps Commander William Buell Franklin and Declaration of Independence signer Philip Livingston can be found on our grounds. Soldiers Circle, also on cemetery property, is a federally owned site given to America after the Civil War. It serves as a final resting place for soldiers who died of their wounds after the Battle of Gettysburg. From past to present, our legacy to h~nor the nation's bravest men and women continues. Our Iraq Wa~ Flag Memorial displays more than 4,900 flags in honor of the servicemen and women who have lost their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan. At a recent Veterans Day ceremony, we unveiled three new Fallen Heroes banners, in addition to the six already on display. The banners serve to posthumously honor servicemen who have ties to the local community. As part of our intent to carryon Prospect Hill's patriotic traditions, we are also developing a Court of Valor Monument. The monument will be over 13' feet high and II' wide. Over 18,000 pounds of granite will be used in its construction I We will permanently inscribe this beautiful new memorial with the names of local war heroes who have been awarded valor medals by a grateful nation. A volunteer panel of veterans has developed the criteria under which this honor will be bestowed.

The Historic PrOSpect Hill Cemetery Heritage Foundation is a 501 (c)(3), public charilY corporation. OUf FEIN is 020798587. Please keep this Jetter as a lax record of your contribution to our organization. Once inscribed, a hero's name will be a permanent source of pride and solace to their family and to their community. As we all know, September ll'h was a tragic day in American history. A steel talisman from the World Trade Center wOllJd stand as silent witness of our nation's permanent need for heroes. It would also remind us to respect those who have paved the way for our freedoms . . At this time, we understand that the Port Authority is actively considering our request. Thank you for your interest and commitment to securing such an important symbol of sacrifice. We look forward to your formal decision!

Sincerely,

Jack Sommer President
