Highlights on Validation of Project Results

SUSTRAIL Final Conference, Brussels, 21st May 2015

Infrastructure Demonstration Multifunctional Geotextile – Chemnitz, Germany The multifunctional geotextile includes protection of the railway substructure by the strengthening and stabilisation of the existing structures and monitoring of their performance with the possibility of the infrastructure owner being alerted by an alarm before structural failure occurs.

2

Infrastructure Demonstration Premium Rail – United Kingdom To prove its benefits, Premium Rail has been installed at seven trial sites across the United Kingdom on Network Rail’s infrastructure The trial sites were selected based upon their previous degradation history by Network Rail

3

Infrastructure Demonstration Support stiffness site tests – Wooden Gates Under Sleeper Pad trials undertaken at UK site with positive results for reduced ballast degradation.

4

Infrastructure Demonstration Track based monitoring and limits for imposed loads Wayside Monitoring has been further developed and installed on several routes in Sweden – This one is placed on the Swedish western main line between Stockholm and Gothenburg – The line carries a broad spectra of different vehicles, i.e. mixed traffic Current Output – Speed & axle counting – Loco type identification – Vertical & lateral forces per wheel – Angle-of-attack – Wheel defect counting 5

Test Site Demonstrations – Faurei, May 2015 Romanian Railway Authority (AFER) Railway Testing Centre at Faurei, Romania
