Hi folks… I’m Peter Berger your biofeedback trainer. I was born and raised near Chicago, Illinois in the USA. I was educated at Evanston Township High School and then attended Northeastern Illinois University and then Northern Illinois University. I was a middle class suburban kid with a few behaviour problems and rebellion, only settling into a professional path after trying my hand at metal fabrication. At age thirteen I was placed in a class for learning disabled kids since I was totally unengaged in school. At the time all I wanted was a motorcycle and work-not school was my path to success, so I thought. Once I got my motorcycle I found that my problems did not change so I was a less than happy chap who could at least get from place to place. Realising my salvation could not be found on two wheels I looked for other opportunities. I grew up during the Viet Nam era which strongly shaped my belief system. In the alternative culture of the time my interest turned to the mind and how we get to be as we are. I began psychotherapy and found a universe of mystery and awe along with the questions that psychology, psychiatry, neurology, and religion put along with the humility to know my knowledge and understanding will always be miniscule in the scheme of things. The insight brings me peace and contentment and I’m glad for that. Parting from my path in metal fabrication I returned to university and took a BA in Psychology. I then went to work for the benefit agency and moved on the mental health work as I achieved my masters and then doctoral degrees in psychology and counselling. Having been a bad kid I wanted to give others the help I didn’t get. Since my doctorate I worked as Psychologist in long-stay state psychiatric hospitals in Illinois and then moved on to work with offenders at Los Angeles County Jail and prisons throughout southern California. I moved from Los Angeles to London in 1987 to marry a prominent harpsichordist. Since coming here I’ve mainly been managing mental health services and services for learning disabled people. I have also done considerable college and university teaching. My interest in biofeedback came when I had the chance to take training as part of my doctorate at Northern Illinois University in the USA. At that time, I had already learned Transcendental Meditation and looked toward my inner consciousness for revelation. My experience with biofeedback really showed me the power of the mind to master the body. I saw many clients make the same transformation from a bag of nerves to someone cool in a crisis. Biofeedback Stress Release was created because I understand the agony that comes from headache pain and the stresses of life. I am American psychologist and counsellor. I’m a friendly and easy going guy. I think it’s important to keep problems in perspective. My job, in working with you, is to help you find the easiest way to make things work for you. I am a Chartered Psychologist. I am also a qualified Counsellor as MBACP with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. I’ve decided to really concentrate on biofeedback treatment because it is very helpful and a good biofeedback therapist is very hard to find. Biofeedback works exceedingly well and is recognised by the NHS as an effective treatment for headaches. I find it really rewarding to help free people from these awful and painful episodes and the stress that leads to them. My approach is simple and easily understandable. Biofeedback is not something that is done to you. Biofeedback helps you know what’s going on inside and teaches you how to unwind the stress and calm your body and mind. The effect is like meditation, yoga, hypnosis, guided imagery, or progressive relaxation. In fact, we are likely to use a number of these methods in your own training. I’ve decided now to do what I do best. I have proven success as a biofeedback trainer. My aim is to use this skill to relieve pain. I find helping people let go of stress an extremely rewarding enterprise for me and clients. I look forward to meeting you. I am a friendly and cheerful person and will make you welcome and do my best to help.
