Your stairs are the best exercise opportunity you can get in your home.

AssiStep is the walker in the stairs, giving you support to climb up and down stairs yourself, so you can stay active and independent.

Support to stay independent Do you have stairs in your home? Lucky you. Your stairs give you the exercise you need to keep fit and able to do everyday tasks yourself. And if your stairs become difficult, you can get the AssiStep, instead of stopping to use your stairs. The AssiStep is a walker in the stairs, giving you the support and safety you need to continue climbing your stairs. It consists of a handle that you slide in front of you while climbing up and down the stairs. Using the handle, you get that extra support and sense of safety you need to keep active and climb the stairs yourself. The handle slides along an elegant handrail, and a patent pending stopping mechanism ensures that the handle brakes if you should lose your balance. And; if you’d like to invite friends or family over for a visit, just fold the handle in towards the stairs, and the AssiStep looks just like a normal handrail.

Scandinavian design to fit you The AssiStep is designed to fit a wide number of user, with its modular design and adjustable handle, and user-friendly stopping mechanism. But just as importantly; it is designed to fit your home, focusing on a modern design and high quality finish. The team started working on the AssiStep in late 2011, based on research on stair falling. The founders have all had family members struggling with climbing their stairs, and we wanted to do something to ease the problem for others. Our aim has been to both give some extra security, while giving you the sense of pride and mastery of overcoming your obstacles.

The handle has two heights, to give you an ergonomic support both when ascending and when descending the stairs. The handrail is module based, which makes it easy to install in different types of stairs. The AssiStep works in both straight as well as curved stairs. With its small size and mechanic function, the AssiStep is less subject to regulations compared to large, automated elevators or stair lifts

When ascending the stairs, the AssiStep is moved by simply sliding the handle up the stairs. If you pull the handle downwards, the handle will not move - so you can use your arms to help yourself to safely ascend the stairs. Descending the stairs is what feels unsafe to many. To descend, you lift the handle slightly to release the brake, and slide the handle forward to take the next step. Supporting yourself with the handle, you then get the help you need to safely descend the next step.

The AssiStep was developed at Norway’s top technical university, in collaboration with the Norwegian Parkinson’s Union and Minoko Design, who also design one of Europe’s most popular rollators. The development has gone through an innovation process of five extensive cycles of testing, feedback and changes, to ensure the best possible product.
