a.W.a.y. (alWays Welcome at ymcas) Privileges at hundreds of YMCAs across the country, according to their policies. Members from other YMCAs may pay $3.00 and use our YMCA; they are not entitled to bring a guest to our facility. Corporate and Basic members from other YMCAs cannot use our facility. No one will be able to use the facility without first turning in their valid YMCA Membership Card at the front desk. Guests 14-up must present a photo I.D. adult group fitness classes stretching & toning An exciting way to build strength and endurance through gentle calisthenics, resistance weight training and low impact aerobics. Though designed for seniors, this class is a great way to start anyone’s day.

nia® Nia® combines healing martial and dance arts with fantastic music. You will achieve whole body conditioning without complicated choreography or equipment. Suitable for all fitness levels.

gentle yoga (level 1-2) Simple, gentle poses (Asanas) aligned with breathing techniques with emphasis on the spine and back bone postures. Self awareness techniques to work with body and mind over time.

relaXation Learn and use techniques to let go, shift the focus and see inwards. Find the real you before finding the world. Learn to handle difficult situations with peace and harmony over time with practice.

rise-n-shine yoga (level 1-3) This early morning class will begin with sun salutations to warm up; strength poses to invigorate the major muscle groups, breathing to oxygenate brain cells and meditation to set intention for the day.

barre essentials “Barre Essentials” is a unique small group training class that will burn fat, carve muscles, improve flexibility and reshape your body. This quick paced class will get your heart rate up and increase your core strength while using light weights, floor work and of course…the ballet barre! y90 Following along similar lines of a popular workout program, “Y90” takes “muscle confusion” to the next level. Cardio segments and plyometrics are added to challenge you and make you work to your MAX! Zumba® gold This class has the same lively Latin music but is designed to make Zumba Fitness easier to learn with lower impact and intensity. after school child care High quality, low cost after school care is available for children in grades K-8. Homework, crafts, games and snacks are part of your child’s experience with the YMCA after school program. babysitting Babysitting is available for members’ children, Monday through Saturday, while parents participate in Y programs. The parent must not leave the building. We reserve the right to refuse a child admittance to babysitting based on illness. (For children 3 months to under 7 years of age.) activity center Children ages 7-13 and their families are welcome to our supervised activities Center Fun exercise activities such as: fitness sKillastics - A non-competitive game that tests strength, flexibility and endurance. A roll of the dice determines your skill. In this game “we’re all winners.” eXercise ball and tubing hotspots Instructional spots used to set up quick excercise station activities to get the entire group involved in just minutes. Each spot features a specific excercise covering a full range of upper and lower body excercises. fitness dice and ten sided dice - Fitness Dice provides awesome fitness fun! Fitness Dice is a great way to keep your child active and helps with counting skills! Roll the die and then perform the excercise however many times the numbered die tells you to! You may roll 4 jumping jacks, 6 sit-ups or 10 push-ups! One dice has fitness and excercise instructions and the other has large screen-printed numbers. eXercise card game - Just shuffle, draw, and exercise! Playing cards illustrate different upper, middle, lower and full-body exercises that are performed without the use of machines. egg balance - A fun game that builds posture awareness and develops balancing skills. Younger kids can see how long they can balance the egg on their heads, older kids can use them in races. Each egg includes 5 sections - the more sections, the harder the challenge. fitgo - An exercise fitness game developed to get kids moving! FITGO follows a Bingo type game, but instead of calling off numbers, the leader calls off exercises. If a kid has the exercise on their FITGO card, they perform the exercise then cover it up. When a kid has five in a row, they have a FITGO!!! And many more including: bowling, Circuit training, resistance tubing and giant word scrabble

pre-school & youth activities splash and run! for children 3 to 5 years old

(must be fully potty trained) This is a wonderful class for your active preschool child! This class consists of a 40 minute swim lesson in our warm water pool followed by an arts and craft project or organized games in the gym. A healthy snack will be provided. Taught by Lynn Molitoris, Youth Services director, and Patricia Karoly, after school director. Both women are certified teachers. registration and fee required

sQueaKy sneaKers (parent-child eXercise class) This class is for Mom, Dad or other caregiver with your little one. This class is 45 minutes of music, obstacle course, tumbling, parachute and active fun! Taught by Patricia Karoly. registration and fee required

Karate Jr. (ages 5-12) Learn the philosophy of the Martial Arts by studying Isshinryu Karate. Isshinryu Karate teaches more than just self-defense; it teaches hand-eye coordination, balance, memory, self-discipline and confidence. The classes are taught in a positive learning environment.

youth fitness and conditioning (ages 12-17 full member) Required for 12-13 year olds – Highly recommended for 14-17 year olds The best way to begin a fitness program is to understand basic fitness principles. Proper exercise form, sequence and duration are important elements that are explained in our newest program by experienced AFFA certified trainers. This program consists of two one hour segments and is required at the YMCA for all children ages 12 and 13 who want to use the weight, cardiovascular and functional equipment at the YMCA. Parents are required to attend the first session with their child. Upon completion of this program, youth members ages 12 and 13 will be certified to utilize the cardio room and track area on their own. “hoopmaKers” basKetball individual development Primary goal is to increase accuracy in shooting skills, ball handling, passing and developing a personal practice plan, with an emphasis on developing self-confidence. youth activities (5-15) sKills and drills (ages 5-7) Class will focus on the fundamentals of fitness and body awareness. Functional equipment and body weight exercises will be used to gain strength, balance and agility. All activities will foster movements that will prepare for future endeavors in sports and/or fitness activities. ballet basics for Kids (ages 5-7) Stretch and dance to learn the foundations of ballet, the basis for all dance types. This class is fun for all levels of dancers. Boys and girls are welcome to participate. poWer hour (ages 8-12) This class is designed for young adults ages 8-12. Power your hour with our certified instructors as they take you through fun and challenging drills, relays and basic calisthenics using the BOSU, stability balls, medicine balls and steps. “J.i.f.” – Jump into fitness (ages 5-7 & 8-12) What could be more fun than jumping rope? The meditative element of yoga will be introduced to allow the youth spirit an opportunity to get to know themselves, deepen their concentration, build self-esteem and consciously relax. hip hop dance eXplosion (ages 8-12) This class is for kids who love to hip hop dance – whether they are just beginning to dance, experienced or just want to have fun. Class will teach beginners about performing and help experienced dancers grow in their talent. Dancers will enjoy fun and upbeat music. hip hop dance eXplosion ii (ages 13-15) This class is for teens who love to dance. While having fun and enjoying the class, dancers will also gain some tips on performing, especially those who hope to have a career in dance. aQuatic information general information All aquatic classes are 40 minutes in length and must have a minimum of three participants. Parent/Child Classes are 30 minutes. See session registration form for pricing. if you have been out of lessons for a while – or are new to our swim program…You will need to have your child evaluated for proper class placement. Evaluations will be done on a first come, first served basis. Check our website for 2013 dates. please note: children are not permitted in the mens’ and ladies’ locKer rooms If you are bringing in a child for swimming, you must use the boys’ or girls’ locker rooms. also available is the family changing stall on our Main Pool deck, which can be accessed through the boys’ and girls’ locker rooms. If you have additional questions, please feel free to call the Aquatic Department.

parent/child practice time and Junior lap time The YMCA offers full family members and their children the opportunity to practice skills they learned during swim lessons at our family practice time and junior lap time. This is an instructional opportunity, not a recreational activity. Complete details and policies of these programs are posted on the pool deck or are available at the front desk. Please see the schedules area at the front desk for available family recreational swim time. Please check the Pool schedule for times and days.

important policy please select your classes carefully. there will be a $10.00 service fee* for each change made after your initial registration. *if the class change is necessitated by the ymca, this fee will be waived.

*please note that parent child classes are 30 minutes. you will be given 10 minutes after class to individually work with your child using ymca aquatic equipment. Children ages 12 and older who are full privilege YMCA members may enjoy the pool without direct adult supervision during ANY family swim time. All children under age 12 must be within arm’s reach of an adult (18 or older) while in the pool. All children age 14 or younger must take a swim test. Members who have not attained the age of 12 and are not participating in a scheduled class, must be accompanied by a full privilege adult member.

If your child is having lessons in our Warm Water Pool you will exit the locker room and wait on the Main Pool deck for your child’s instructor. As soon as all children are assembled and those needing a floatation have them on, the instructor will bring them into the Warm Water Pool. there is no observation on the Warm Water pool decK. Viewing through the Main Pool windows will be permitted during the first week of lessons. for the remainder of the session, parents/guardians must Wait for their sWimmer(s) on the main pool decK bleachers. Observation through the windows and doors poses a safety hazard. Thank you for your anticipated cooperation.

aQuatics

The descriptions listed below are general and do not include all requirements for each level. In order to assure proper class placement, a swim evaluation will be needed (EXCEPT FOR PARENT/CHILD CLASSES). Please check our website for evaluation dates and times. A minimum of 3 swimmers are needed to run a class. Please be advised that all traffic to and from the Clyde Utz Aquatic Center is through the locker rooms only. Once you exit the locker room, please wait on the Main Pool deck for your child’s instructor. Instructors will place a floatation device on your child, if necessary, and will then escort them to the proper pool location. Pick up will be from the bleachers on the Main Pool deck, as well.

parent/child classes shrimp Kipper (ages 6 months-12 months) A love-filled water adjustment class for children 6-12 months. Basic swimming skills are introduced through games and songs, along with the usage of toys. Child must be accompanied by a caregiver in the water.

silly seals (ages 1-2 years)

A water adjustment class for the 1-2 year old. Parents will be guided through the basic swimming skills (kicking, floating and paddling) to help their child gain independence. Child must be accompanied by a caregiver in the water.

piKe With parent (ages 2-5 years) A water adjustment class for the child not quite ready for instruction or separation from the caregiver. The class will focus on following directions, basic swimming skills (kicking, floating and paddling), and swimming independently with a flotation. Child must be accompanied by a caregiver in the water.

beginner sWim levels (3–15 years) piKe (ages 3-5 years) A perfect swim class without caregiver. The following skills will be introduced in a gentle, caring and fun way: front and back float, swimming on front and back. A flotation device is used for the majority of the class.

piKe plus (ages 3-5 years)

Pre-requisite: Swim independently with flotation for a short distance. Class focuses on the child’s independence with/w/out the flotation. Goals: paddle stroke, elementary backstroke, floating, submerged bobs (with/without a flotation).

polliWog (ages 6-12 years)

A beginner class for those children not comfortable swimming in the deep end and/or immersing their face in water. Goals: floating,

paddle stroke/crawl stroke, elementary backstroke, swimming in the deep end. Flotation devices are worn for a good portion of the class. This class is held in both the Main Pool and Warm Water Pool.

teen lessons (ages 11-15 years)

Ideal for those beyond the age for progressive lessons, yet too young for adult classes. Participants progress at their own pace so that they can develop skills necessary to swim safely for fun and exercise, emphasizing swimming on front and back in shallow and deep water.

intermediate sWim levels (3-8 years) eels (ages 3-7 years) Pre-requisite: Swim 15 feet on front and back without a flotation, and comfortable putting face into the water. Goals: paddle stroke with rhythmic breathing, swimming on back, beginning over-arm recovery (crawl stroke/ freestyle).

rays (ages 4-7 years)

Pre-requisite: Swim 15 feet crawl stroke/freestyle with rhythmic breathing, 15 feet elementary backstroke. Goals: freestyle with rotary breathing, backstroke and introduction to breaststroke.

rays plus (ages 4-7 years)

Pre-requisite: good concept of freestyle, rotary breathing and backstroke. this class uses the main pool. Goals: Proficiency in freestyle, rotary breathing and backstroke, intro to breaststroke, sitting dive and ability to swim full length of the pool.

starfish (ages 5- 8 years)

Pre-requisite: Swim 20 feet freestyle with rotary breathing, 20 feet backstroke, minimal knowledge of breaststroke, surface dive. Goals: concentrating on proper technique of all strokes including freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and focusing on endurance.

Pre-requisite: must be able to swim 150 meters (6 lengths) continuously freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke; 15 meters butterfly. Goals: concentrating on proper technique of freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly; endurance; introducing freestyle/backstroke flip turns.

minnoW (ages 6-14 years)

Pre-requisite: must be able to swim 300 meters (12 lengths) continuously freestyle (using flip turns), backstroke (using flip turns) and breaststroke; 25 meters butterfly. Goals: concentrating on proper technique of freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly; continued work on competitive starts, turns and pullouts; endurance.

Pre-requisite: must be able to swim 50 meters (two lengths) continuously freestyle with rotary breathing and backstroke, also minimal knowledge of breaststroke. Goals: concentrating on proper technique of freestyle and backstroke with an emphasis placed on breaststroke and the glide; endurance; standing dives into freestyle.

fish (ages 6-14 years) Pre-requisite: must be able to swim 75 meters (three lengths) continuously freestyle with rotary breathing, backstroke, and breaststroke with glide. Goals: concentrating on proper technique of freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke introduction to butterfly; endurance; standing dives into freestyle and breaststroke.

Pre-requisite: must have completed the Shark level. Goals: Finetuning competitive strokes, starts, flipturns and pull outs, as well as endurance work.

porpoise (ages 12-14 years)

Pre-requisite: must have completed the Shark level. Goals: concentrating on proper technique of freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly; continued stroke work and endurance; become familiar with our preschool aquatic program; given a volunteer assignment to assist a swim class.

sWim fit (ages 12-15) Pre-requisite: Must have completed Flying Fish Level or above. This is a unique noncompetitive program for the teen who wants to get or stay fit. The focus will be on stroke development, endurance, fitness and FUN, with special surprise activities each session.

adult sWim classes (ages 15 and older) Adults learn the fundamentals of swimming and are introduced to the water in a safe, comfortable environment. As you progress to the next level, technique and endurance are focused upon. Lessons are tailored to fit each individual’s needs. We will take a maximum of 3 adults to a class.

beginner – Learn to feel comfortable in the water. Skills introduced include front float, front paddle stroke, back float, treading and elementary backstroke. advanced beginner – While continuing to perfect skills learned in beginner, you will learn rhythmic breathing and elementary backstroke, intermediate – This class introduces rotary breathing, overarm backstroke and elementary backstroke.

Aquatic Therapy through Angelfish is available to children ages 6 months to 18 years with various neurological and physical challenges. The program is facilitated by licensed PT’s and OT’s. Swim Whisperers and Angelfish Parent/Child Swim offers children with sensory or motor issues or learning difficulties that impede the process of learning to swim, the opportunity to swim, the opportunity to learn. And, Little Angels Gym and Play (land based program) will motivate kids to try new things, set goals and encourage a passion for physical activity. silver foXes Join the Y’s fun loving Silver Fox Group. All individuals “55 years young +” are welcomed into the Fox’s den. Something for everyone: walking, swimming, water exercise class, chair exercise and more. The group meets on Fridays at 11:15 am in the locker room. Our Aqua Fitness class is from 11:30 am -12:15 pm.
