Hello, my name is John Krzystowczyk. Welcome to my Storyboard Presentation.

I grew up in Troy Michigan, a suburb of Detroit, with my Mom Dad and two sisters.

About Me 

Grew up in Troy Michigan with my Mom, Dad and two sisters.

Currently live in East Lansing Michigan and am a student at Michigan State University.

I enjoy spending time family, friends, reading and sports.

After being accepted to MSU, I moved to East Lansing and currently live with a friend from high-school. Family and friends are very important to me so I try to spend as much time with them as possible. I work as a cook at the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center, and whatever free-time remains at the end of the day is usually spent working-out, reading, or hanging out with friends.

The Krzystowczyk Family 

Mom is a Respiratory Therapist at Providence Hospital.

Dad is the Vice President of Foreign Exchange for Comerica Bank.

Older sister is 23 and is currently enrolled in Michigan State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine.

Younger sister is 19 and is currently enrolled in Michigan State University’s Nursing Program.

My mom Kristen works at Providence Hospital in Southfield Michigan, as a Respiratory Therapist. My Dad Mike is the Vice President of Foreign Exchange for Comerica Bank, and works in downtown Detroit. My older sister Caitlin is 23 years old and is currently enrolled in MSU’s College of Veterinary Medicine. She hopes to someday open her own smallanimal veterinary clinic. Mary is my youngest sister and is a 19 year old Sophomore here at MSU and is currently pursuing her nursing degree. Included in this slide is a photo of me and my Labradoodle Reilly.

MSU Study Abroad 

Summer 2010 participated in MSU’s Sustainable Food, Environment and Social Systems Study Abroad in Australia.

Interest area was Sustainable Building Design and Alternative Energy.

Produced Research Paper, entitled “Implementation of Sustainable Energy Systems”.

This summer, a group of MSU students and I traveled to Australia with Dr. Luke Reese. The focus of our trip was Sustainable Food Environment and Social Systems.

Photo taken at the On The Wallaby Backpackers Lodge. Australia Study Abroad 2010.

My individual interest area during the trip was Sustainable Design and Alternative Energy. Throughout the trip I gathered knowledge and information related to my topic, and upon returning home produced my Research Paper which was titled “ Implementation of Sustainable Energy Systems”.

My Major 

Slide 6

Currently pursuing my Bachelor’s Degree in Technology Systems Management at MSU.

TSM Focus Areas:  Automation and Controls  Data Acquisition and Management  Geographic Information Systems (GIS)  Global Position Systems (GPS)  Information Technology  Remote Sensing

I chose this degree because I am interested in applying science and technology to solve problems.

TSM Career Options 

Career Options  Food production/processing  Environmental monitoring  Homeland Security

Increased demand for alternative energy systems and higher efficiency machinery and buildings.

The skills acquired with a TSM degree can be used to gain employment in a number of growing energy sectors.

My major at MSU is Technology Systems Management, and I ended up choosing this degree because I am interested in applying science and technology to solve problems. Most of my TSM courses involve lectures followed by a weekly hands-on lab, and the focus of these courses include automation, control systems, Data management, information technology and remote sensing.

TSM graduates have the opportunity to gain employment in a wide variety of fields such as food production and processing, environmental monitoring, and homeland security. Recently, social, economic and environmental concerns have increased the demand for alternative energy systems and high-efficiency machinery and buildings. The TSM program at MSU provides students with a working knowledge of digital electronics, power systems and technology and information management. These skills can be used to gain employment in a number of growing energy sectors.

My Interest Areas 

“Green Energy” Production  Examples include photovoltaic plants, wind-farms, solar thermal plants, and tidal

generation facilities. 

One of my areas of interest is Alternative energy, and I’ve split this into two sections…….. Green energy Production & electrical transmission.

Electrical Transmission/Smart Grid  Addition of thousands of miles of transmission lines across the country

over the next 25 years.  Current transmission lines are inefficient and do not reach areas

developed by alternative energy producers.

A wide variety of alternative energy systems must be used to offset our nation’s dependence on foreign oil and limit our greenhouse gas emissions. Examples of these clean energy production techniques include photovoltaic plants, wind-farms, solar thermal plants, and tidal generation facilities. Electrical transmission is the also a growing field that I am interested in. The United State’s transmission system is currently out of date and very inefficient, and therefore must be replaced. We will likely see thousands of miles of new transmission lines over the next few decades, and these lines will be monitored with Smart Meters to help regulate and control energy distribution.

My Interest Areas (continued)

Increased demand for higher efficiency buildings  Commercial and Residential

Sustainable building design is my second area of interest. Before my study abroad in Australia I knew very little about this topic, but soon became very interested in it.

Energy-saving retro-fits and energy audits to existing buildings.  

LEED Certification United States Green Building Council Energy Efficiency Consultant

Recent energy prices have increased the demand for high efficiency buildings , both commercial and residential. money-saving retro-fits, or energy audits, to existing buildings are also becoming a very popular way for companies to reduce costs and improve efficiency. The LEED Green Building Certification System was developed by the United States Green Building Council, and awards commercial and residential buildings varying efficiency levels.

Future Plans 

Future Plans  Summer Internship  Graduate

 Travel

My plans for the future begin with obtaining a summer internship at a company that can offer work experience in the energy sector.

 LEED Certification Classes  Pursue Career in my area of

interest

After completing my undergraduate degree I plan on attending a graduate program in environmental studies or sustainable design. I have also begun to look into taking the LEED exam in order to become certified, and possibly work for the US Green Building Council. Beyond that, all I can hope for is to gain employment in a field related to my

interest area, and possibly get the opportunity to travel for my job.
