Why join HECSU? As an agency of Universities UK and Guild HE, HECSU is a registered charity that’s been at the heart of the higher education sector for more than 40 years. Working in partnership with government, HE professional bodies, funding councils, employers and student bodies our role is to support all students and graduates into, through and out of HE and into employment by supporting the work of all careers and employability professionals and their institutions. We undertake and commission research into all aspects of graduate employability, such as the longitudinal career development research project - Futuretrack; provide graduate labour market information, and fund practitioner research. As a member of HECSU, your university has access to a range of unique benefits to aid career planning and enhance the employability of your students and graduates, as well as training bursaries, exclusive resources, software discounts and up-to-date information for colleagues and staff.

Your institution’s benefits – what’s in it for you? HECSU membership provides your institution with a comprehensive and unique benefits package worth up to more than £7,000 per institution including: to £45,000 special initiative bursary for professional • Access training and development An annual bursary fund of £45,000 is available to HECSU member institutions to help fund professional development. Members can apply for a grant from the bursary fund to aid training which may not be achievable through their own institutions’ training budgets. Access to £50,000 special careers-related research fund • From 1st February 2015, c.£50,000 will be available each year to HECSU member institutions to fund research into local and regional labour markets and other career-related activities. Each year there will be at least 10 initiatives worth up to £5,000 each. Prospects publications on request • Our portfolio spans work experience, graduate recruitment and postgraduate study and includes our flagship Employer and Postgraduate Directories. Copies will be sent directly to your careers service to help students and graduates with their career and further study planning. Dual-branded web cards and Prospects materials • Available for the new academic year, webcards are a popular and effective mass marketing material. Ideal for picking up on campus and at events, 2,000 cards are delivered to you with your branding, key messages and web links featured. We also send your careers service a delivery of Prospects pens, posters, bags and flyers for your students. for licence fee waiver for Prospects Vacancy and Event • Eligibility Management Modules Prospects Vacancy and Events Management Modules are the most widely used careers service operating systems in the sector. The Vacancy Module enables your students and graduates to search for vacancies, save searches and receive email notifications of new vacancies in the areas that interest them. The Event Module enables you to set up a range of events including client interviews and duty sessions, recruiter presentations, career management workshops and recruitment fairs. When you use the Vacancy and Events Module, your students and graduates are able to enter your own site via their My Prospects dashboard.

Graduate Market Trends • This essential graduate labour market digest which will be sent to you quarterly in hard copy, provides high quality information about contemporary debates in higher education, graduate employment and career learning as well as interviews with key figures in HE.

 What Do Graduates Do? • Published annually in collaboration with AGCAS, this sector‐standard report uses data published by the Higher Education Statistics Agency to explore graduate destinations six months after they graduate. Hard copies will be sent to you as part of your membership.

• Prospects.ac.uk – providing 2 million monthly browsers (audited March 2014) and colleagues at UK careers services with access to thousands of employment and further study opportunities as well as unique careers content - written by AGCAS and industry professionals.

• Career Planner – developed in collaboration with colleagues at UK careers

services and used widely within career guidance interviews at UK institutions, Planner analyses a student’s skills, motivations and desires and suggests occupations or job roles most suited to them for application, further research and discussion with their careers adviser.

• Higher Education Degree Datacheck (HEDD) – initially funded by HEFCE and managed by HECSU on behalf of Universities UK and Guild HE, HEDD is the first port of call for any individuals or organisations seeking degree verification.

• Graduate Talent Pool – delivered by HECSU on behalf of the Department

for Business, Innovation and Skills, Graduate Talent Pool is a free service for graduates seeking quality internships and work experience placements.

I regularly use and recommend Prospects to students. However, more specifically, for career planning with students, I use Prospects Planner and Options with your Subject which then usually leads on to the occupational profiles. Where our money goes As a registered charity HECSU receives income via its commercial arm Graduate Prospects. Each year HECSU gifts Prospects’ profits back to the sector in the form of training bursaries, research projects, events and careers content through its long-standing partner, AGCAS.
