Healthy Eating Information

Task 1 – Scope of Practice & Dietary Guidelines This task requires the completion of the following two (2) tables (found in online resources)

Table A. requires you to look at the list of statements, topics and common queries that clients ask their Gym Instructors. Your job is to identify which are within your scope of practice to ethically/legally address and give information about in regards to food and nutrition. Answer YES on Scope of Practice Form if the statement lies within a Gym Instructors Scope and NO if the Statement and topic lie outside of scope and you should refer the client to qualified and registered Nutritionists & Dietitians

Table B. requires you to read the 2013 Australian Dietary Guideline Summary document (available from the FIT College portal) and correctly fill out the Dietary Guidelines Form with the recommended servings of each food group for the relevant age groups and genders.

You must submit the following as evidence for assessment of this task: Complete and submit all of the following forms;  Scope of Practice Form  Dietary Guidelines Form Resources Required: The resources required for this assessment can be found in the Resources section in under this topic within;  HEI Resource – 2013 Dietary Guidelines Summary  Scope of Practice Form  Dietary Guidelines Form Marking Criteria:  Learner has correctly identified as to which statements they are able to provide to their clients under the relevant Fitness Scope of Practice.  Learner has correctly inserted the recommended serving amounts for the relevant age and gender groups according to the HEI Resource – 2013 Dietary Guidelines Summary

Task 2 – Case Studies This task requires you to read over the five (5) Healthy Eating Information Case Studies (available from the FIT College Student Portal) and write a short summary (100-120 words each) which responds to the following questions: 1. Which types of foods is the person in question likely to not be able to eat, either by choice or by any allergy or intolerance, which could potentially cause ill-health? 2. What types of recommendations can you make to each client in regards to specific vitamins or minerals which their diet may be lacking in, whilst still staying within your Scope of Practice as an Exercise Instructor? 3. Who would you refer each client on to for any information which is outside of your Scope of Practice? These questions should be clearly labelled and responded to in order. You must use the “Healthy Eating Information Case Study Response” editable template (see next page) which you can download from the FIT College Student Portal. You must submit the following as evidence for assessment of this task:  Learner has completed and submitted a separate “Healthy Eating Information Case Study Response” editable template for each case study (5 in total) Resources Required: The resources required for this assessment can be found in the Resources section in under this topic within;  Healthy Eating Information Case Study Response Form  Five (5) Healthy Eating Information Case Studies Marking Criteria:  Learner has correctly responded to the three (3) questions above using the Case Study Response template for each of the five (5) case studies  Responses directly reflect the applicable Scope of Practice information provided throughout the Lecture Slides for this topic  Learner has taken into consideration different diets, preferences and religious reasons for choices of food

Task 3 – Healthy Eating Information Practical Skills Assessment

This is a practical task which requires assessment through observation by an approved FIT College Trainer & Assessor. Students completing their course online or via correspondence can contact their designated tutors for support regarding scheduling and preparation for the completion of Practical Assessment Tasks This task requires you to interview a single (1) individual of your choosing, and complete a simple Nutritional Habits Questionnaire Interview. You must video the interview and provide all supporting docs. You must submit the following as evidence for assessment of this task:  A copy of the interview process, either via video or be observed in class by an approved FIT College assessor.  Completed copy (scan, photo or image) of the Nutritional Habits Questionnaire  Any additional information Resources Required: The resources required for this assessment can be found in the Resources section in under this topic within;  Nutritional Habits Questionnaire Marking Criteria:  Learner performs an interviewstyle session with a fellow student or “client” of their choosing over 18 years of age  Learner asks basic expanding questions for particular questions (if applicable)  Learner asks questions clearly and ensures that their client understands the question  Learner fills out the form themselves in response the client’s answers  Learner uploads/submits a copy of a completed Nutritional Habits Questionnaire  Interview is between 4 minutes and 8 minutes in length
