HEAD OF SERVICE LIVE WELL LUTON Are you a formidable leader with a passion for health improvement and excellent interpersonal skills? Would you like a challenging but dynamic role heading up a new, innovative service? Live Well Luton is the town’s free healthy lifestyle service, funded by Luton Borough Council and provided by innovative, independent provider Thrive Tribe. We are putting together a first class team to help us improve health in one of the UK’s most diverse communities. You will use your excellent communication skills to develop strong relationships with commissioners and stakeholders, whilst working closely with your team of 25 to promote and provide high quality healthy lifestyle programmes. You will be part of Thrive Tribe’s leadership team, helping to run and grow our dynamic organisation. The ideal candidate will have the personality, drive and determination to complement Thrive Tribe’s ethos and values. You will have the flair and commitment to achieve challenging activity targets, while acting as the public face and spokesperson for Live Well Luton.

Starting salary:

£50,000-£60,000 per annum, depending on experience

22-28 days per year

ABOUT LIVE WELL LUTON…. Live Well Luton is our “new kid on the block”, an integrated healthy lifestyle service helping people in the town stop smoking, lose weight, get more active and eat healthier. We’ve just moved into our shiny new central HQ, but we also operate from a number of locations across town, from leisure centres to hospital wards. HEAD OF SERVICE – LIVE WELL LUTON JOB DESCRIPTION Overview The Head of Service will provide overall leadership for Live Well Luton, with responsibility for all operational delivery across stop smoking, weight management, healthy eating, physical activity and health checks services. Working closely with commissioners and stakeholders you will have responsibility for ensuring the service meets its commissioning objectives/performance targets, while targeting client groups with the poorest health outcomes. You will lead a team of around 25 staff and also represent the organisation externally in a range of meetings, settings and in the media. The post requires regular travel across Luton and some evening and weekend work. Main duties 1. To effectively lead and develop Live Well Luton and ensure performance targets are met through the implementation of the service’s business plan. 2. To ensure that the service targets client groups with the poorest health outcomes, through effective tailoring of promotion and provision. 3. To act as the public face of the service locally, maintaining strong working relationships with commissioners and stakeholders, including health service providers, voluntary organisations, community groups and the town’s main sports/leisure provider Active Luton. 4. To provide effective leadership to around 25 staff members (direct line management of 5), implementing Thrive Tribe’s policies and values in an active way to enable the service to grow and thrive.

5. To oversee a programme of Organisational Development and team building activities, in order to develop a positive spirit, bolster excellent communication and to make Live Well Luton an enjoyable place to work. 6. To ensure that the service budget is managed effectively. 7. To ensure that the service maintains the highest standards in respect of quality of delivery, health and safety, safeguarding, employment and clinical standards. 8. To work closely with Thrive Tribe’s Marketing Team and relevant local organisations, building and maintaining collaborative relationships that help promote the service, drive activity levels and disseminate healthy lifestyle messages through social marketing campaigns. 9. To monitor and report on service performance by working with colleagues to analyse information in the service database, developing a range of methods to demonstrate the service’s success. 10. To maintain impeccable standards of communication, internally and externally, using a range of methods, mediums and techniques. 11. To maintain a flexible approach, in line with changing national and local priorities, managing change within the service and team positively and proactively. 12. To act as a spokesperson for the service to the local media. 13. To contribute to the growth of Thrive Tribe, working closely with the leadership team and taking an active role in various Thrive Tribe meetings and events. 14. Other duties commensurate with the scope of the role. Reportable to: Managing Director, Thrive Tribe. Key competencies: Applicants should be able to demonstrate experience in the following competencies:

Essential Senior management experience in a relevant field or organisation.  Extensive knowledge or experience in at least one of the following areas as delivered in community settings: health, public health, nutrition, sports or physical activity.  Experience of managing groups of staff to deliver against a range of targets.  Happy to work flexible working patterns, including occasional evening and weekend work.  Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to network effectively and build strong relationships with a wide variety of stakeholder organisations.  Ability to develop and implement strategic plans across a whole team or service.  An understanding of Health Inequalities and how lifestyles affect health outcomes across different population groups.  An alignment to Thrive Tribe’s values (see below) and an enthusiasm to help the organisation grow.  Previous experience of working or volunteering with voluntary organisations, community groups, neighbourhood associations or similar.  Own transport. Desirable Understanding of smoking cessation, weight management, physical activity, healthy eating or behaviour change principles and how these can applied within a health improvement service.  Experience of building effective relationships with local authorities, GP practices and other health care settings.  Experience of managing large budgets.  Ability to represent the organisation to the local media.  Experience working with diverse and deprived population groups.  Knowledge or experience in promoting services or delivering marketing campaigns.
