Thoughts of the Pastor

Pensamientos del Pastor

Dear Parishioners, Happy Easter! It is especially so for Alyjia Batista, Edgar Ceja, Jonathan Denton and Eric Olivares who were baptized into Christ Jesus and have become members of His Body, the Church, during the Easter Vigil. Congratulations are also in order for all of our brothers and sisters who completed their Christian Initiation through the reception of the sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation. I would like to thank our Director of Religious Education, Sr. Margaret Pavluchuk, our catechists, Sr. Anna Musi, Bruno Bombay, and Blanca Torres, and all our parents, godparents and sponsors who faithfully have accompanied our neophytes and those who completed their Christian Initiation. Finally, a big thank you to all of you who have kept them in your prayers over these last several months, especially during the Lenten Season. I would be remiss if I did not express my gratitude to anyone and everyone who contributed in any way to making the celebration of the liturgies of Holy Week so beautiful and meaningful. We live for that week. Our celebration of Easter is a celebration of the life Jesus gives us through His Cross and Resurrection. The American Cancer Society is about celebrating life, as well. For a century the American Cancer Society "has been working to create a world with less cancer and more birthdays." During the month of March, you may have seen me wearing a pin with a white star and ribbon. It is the symbol for Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. I wore the pin because I sit on the Eastern Pennsylvania Volunteer Leadership Council of The American Cancer Society. As a parish priest, I have discovered that there are very few families that have not had someone who has had, or is, currently working through a cancer issue. How many people Father Kozak and I visit in the hospitals or in their homes who have had a cancer diagnosis! There are plenty of ways that anyone can get involved in the fight against cancer. The ACS Road to Recovery program provides rides for cancer patients to and from their treatment. Relay for Life is the signature event of the ACS and it raises millions of dollars towards cancer research and prevention. The Cancer Action Network provides an opportunity to stay apprised of developments in state and federal legislative bodies that effect, among other things, cancer research and patient care and then offers a forum to inform and influence our legislators on these important issues. If any of these programs are of interest to you, please see me.

Queridos feligreses, ¡Feliz Pascua!

God Bless you and your families,

In our parish, we have seen the great gift of eternal life in Baptism given to so many children. Our Mother, the Catholic Church, rejoices in seeing the parents and Godparents’ joyful faces at the time of their children’s baptisms. The parents’ faith-filled interest in baptizing their children gives witness to our world that we are still longing to be part of God’s family. We as a parish have a great respect for your interest in the faith, as well as your love and concern for your child, that we would like to offer you the best formation that we can, so you will be well-prepared for your child’s baptism. We offer an intense baptism workshop on a Saturday morning (8:30-12:00 p.m.) every two months. If you are interested in baptizing your child, you will need to make appointment with Sister Margaret to discuss your child’s baptism. At that time, you will register for the workshop (you and the godparents must be registered before the workshop) and choose your baptism date.
