CHAPTER #1238

Message from the Director WE NEED YOU! Yes, it is that time of year when we need to elect officers for 2006. It does not take an inordinate amount of time to perform the duties of each office, and for some offices, the actual time commitment is minimal. In addition, I am certain that outgoing officers will gladly work with new officers to answer any questions and provide all support needed to make a successful transition. The process for becoming an officer requires a person to sign up on the nomination sheet posted on our board at the Dealership, or be nominated at the December meeting. If the nominee cannot attend the December meeting, and would like to accept the nomination, the nominee must contact me prior to the December meeting to accept the nomination. I have enjoyed serving the Chapter the past seven years as your Newsletter Editor, Assistant Director, and Director, but it is time for me to become a participative member and let other members bring fresh ideas and energy to the Chapter. Please sign up for an office or attend the December Chapter meeting and get nominated for election. In addition to the elections, the disbursement of the Charity Fund is another item of business that will be addressed at the December Chapter Meeting. For new Chapter members, this process includes asking for recommended Charities at the meeting, and then determining which Charities will receive our Charity fund. On a very sad note, we lost a Chapter Member and Friend this past month. After a battle with Mesothelioma, David Martin passed away on October 28. Due to his illness, David was not able to participate in many activities this past year, but I can tell you that he was with us all year in our thoughts and prayers. David and his lovely Wife Jama were active Chapter members who loved to ride. Even when David was almost too weak to ride, he managed to sneak in a short ride around his home in Yorktown. If you did not have a chance to get to know David and Jama, they found ways to bring a smile to everyone’s face and enjoyed nothing more than the feel of the wind in their face. David was a talented Builder, Navy Veteran, and all-around great guy who will be missed. Our condolences, thoughts, and prayers go out to Jama and the entire Martin Family. Lastly, please plan to attend the Toys for Tots Ride on November 26 at the Dealership. The ride will be a shine ride only. Members bringing a toy will receive a ticket, and we will draw two names from the tickets for a free lunch. If weather permits, we will ride to lunch and if the weather is not cooperating, we will eat lunch locally. Plan to meet at the Dealership at 11:00. In addition, the Dealership has a full day of events and activities scheduled. Stay warm and if you are riding, please ride safe, Ed. EJ6727@AOL,COM

Winter Storage Tips For Your Bike Are you putting your bike in storage soon? If so, consider taking the! following steps to help protect your ride. Change all fluids. Check tire pressures Use a gas stabilizer like Stabil and follow the directions. If you don't we suggest starting and running the bike several times over the winter. If your battery is not a sealed type, remove it and connect a battery tender. If it is a sealed type like late OEM batteries you can plug them into the tender without removal. We do not recommend a trickle charger as they will cause boil off and can destroy the battery. If you have a lift, we recommend putting your bike on it. We have been told that using a sheet of plywood with a carpet over it blocks moisture from coming up through the floor. Use a breathable cover to keep dust and debris off. Or just take it to the HD Dealership for storage or winterization.
