MESSAGE FROM THE COMMITTEES Dear HARI Devotees, We wish you and your family a very Happy and Prosperous New Year. May Lord Rama and Ram Parivar shower their blessings on you and your family in the year 2016 and beyond. We also take this opportunity to thank you all for electing us to the positions of Chairman and President for the year 2016. On behalf of Board of Trustees (BOT), and Executive Committee (EC), we are very excited and honored to serve the HARI Temple and community. We are very blessed to have our priests, Pu. Shastriji and Pu. Swamiji helping and guiding devotees at the HARI Temple with our religious programs and events. Over the years, HARI temple membership has continued to grow, with the number of religious events and attendance during these events growing many fold. The BOT and EC will strive to provide necessary services and conveniences required to make your visit to the temple a satisfactory one. This requires us to keep the temple facilities up to date on maintenance, and expand capabilities in the prayer hall, dinner hall and parking. Please find the initiatives we would like to achieve in 2016 on pages 8 and 9 of this news letter. As the Indian community in South Central PA and more particularly in the Greater Harrisburg area continues to grow, we will look at improving our relations with the other communities at large and continue to participate in initiatives like the Interfaith Prayers and conferences to enhance our presence, and contribute in kind and intellect towards such community initiatives. We are hoping that as a growing Religious Institute and Hindu community, we can contribute towards humanitarian initiatives such as partnering with food banks and participating in food drives for the needy. We encourage all members to participate in such initiatives and make our society a better place. We will also be working on several long term initiatives such as Target $2M for the HARI Trust Fund, strengthening the Advisory committees, HARI beautification project, laying the foundation for next generation HARI needs, HARI School, Youth and Anandam group activities, up to date technology etc. Providing regular membership updates is important to us, so please let us know if you have any issues with receiving emails or the HARI Times print. We will attempt to update the HARI directory in 2016 to bring our membership information up to date. Your cooperation in providing your most current information would be greatly appreciated. The success and growth of the temple is and has been based on the generosity of our donors and members, in donations as well as in kind. We thank each and every one of you for your contributions and request that you continue to shower your generosity for the continued growth of the temple. Last but not least, your feedback and suggestions are greatly welcome. Please feel free to contact either of us at
[email protected] or
[email protected] with your continued suggestions. Jai Shri Krishna and Jai Shriman Narayana.

IMPROVEMENT INITIATIVES AT HARI FOR 2016 As a commitment to improving devotee experience when you visit HARI, we will strive to continuously identify opportunities and areas in the temple where safety, convenience, resources and sanitation can be improved and added. The Board of Trustees (BOT) and Executive Committee (EC) supports implementation of the opportunities in the table below for the 2016 Calendar year. HARI is a non-profit organization (503 (c)), and as is the case with any such organization, we seek to continuously solicit financial support for improvement projects like the ones below. If you see an initiative that is appealing to you or that you would like to contribute towards, please contact the President or any of the Executive Committee members to initiate a donation towards any specific project. We would be very grateful for your consideration, generosity and kindness for this cause. The Executive Committee will provide regular updates on the progress of these improvement projects. This by no means is an exhaustive list. If you have any other suggestions for improvement in the temple please contact the President via email at
[email protected] or by phone (contact information on the 1st page). We will appreciate your financial contributions towards these projects with appropriate recognition if you like.

HARI SCHOOL Dear Students and Parents, Namaste! Wish you all a Very Happy and a Prosperous 2016! HARI School is never short on excitement. The new religion curriculum that we plan to introduce beginning January 2016 is a tremendous milestone and will further add to the excitement. We thank you for your feedback and suggestions. The new curriculum also brings with it more accountability on the part of teachers and parents in ensuring that our students not only learn beautiful things about our culture and religion but also retain those learnings for a long time. Our Bengali language classes have recently adopted a regional curriculum which looks very exciting. With this we now have achieved our goal of having a curriculum for almost all of our classes. Congratulations to Bengali teachers, students and their parents on this achievement! We are proud to inform that HARI School now has a library. The objective of the library is to inculcate the love for reading about our culture and traditions in our students. And as the saying goes “Readers become leaders”, we want to provide our students with an opportunity to become future leaders of our dharma. As we fill our fledgling library with books and cultural magazines, we would be happy to receive your support, as we always have in the past, to make this library grow. To encourage our students to become voracious readers, we also plan to recognize at least three students who would read the most number of books in a given academic year. Details would follow shortly. If you yet haven’t registered your child for the field trip to the beautiful Swaminarayan Mandir, Robbinsville, NJ, we urge you to do so soon. Attendees of the past field trip, especially the students, have enjoyed this event very much. Last year we penitently had to turn down a few last minute requests to attend the trip due to lack of seats. Very soon HARI School would be in touch with you for your help in contacting your child’s school teacher to explore the possibility of having the teacher attend our Teacher’s Appreciation program, which coincides with Mother’s Day Havan. It’s not too early, however, for you to start a dialogue with your child’s teacher to explore how they feel about attending the program at HARI, which will help us extend a formal invitation. Some of the activities and events our students recently celebrated and enjoyed have been possible due to your active participation and volunteering. Please feel free to give your ideas and suggestions to us so we can enhance students experience while they attend HARI School. While your kids are taking classes, please seek out volunteer seva opportunities at the temple. By doing seva, we will be setting an example for our kids to emulate. Once again, have a great 2016! Sincerely, Dinesh R. Pai
