Deputies in Marathon had to apply two coats of paint to this lovely artwork behind Kmart. The graffiti eradication work was done by Sgt. Joel Slough’s squad: Deputies Danielle Malone, Deanna Torres, Garrett Bragg (above), Garrett Test (below)and James Hager.

In Islamorada, Lt. Dave Carey and Sgt. Greg Johnson’s squad were out recently painting out graffiti around the 80 mile marker of the highway.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office took part in an emergency drill at the Key West airport yesterday. The scenario involved a plane which crash landed after a passenger caused a disruption on board. There were many simulated casualties played by volunteers. Firefighters, paramedics, deputies and hospital personnel were involved in practicing what they would do and how they would respond should such an incident occur.

Don’t forget: the Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run is coming up April 4th in Key West. If you want to participate, contact Jo Socha at 305-292-7042 or Jim Painter at 305-292-2150 for details.

This hard working group put on a soup lunch to raise money for the MARC House this week. Thanks to those who participated, they raised $300. Those who helped out included Clarisa Gonzalez, Haydee Martinez, George Rosemeyer, Nancy Alvarez, Jennifer Torres, Peggy Bryan, Lee Ann Holroyd and SallyAnn Crawford.

The Sheriff’s Animal Farm attended the Family Fun Fest on the Naval Air Station - Sigsbee. Chanel the Skunk was a big hit. Thanks to volunteer Sally Botelho for helping out. David Amoako with jail maintenance is leaving us this week. Jail staff held a get together for him this week to say goodbye. Amoako worked for the Sheriff’s Office from April of 2001 - August of 2008 and then returned to work for us again from February of 2009 - March of 2014. Thanks for the service, David, and good luck!

Sheriff Rick Ramsay recently donated $7,000 to Florida Sheriff’s Youth Ranches. The money will pay for a special summer camp for a select number of Monroe County youth.
