HALL COUNTY FIREFIGHTER I APPLICANT INFORMATION SPECIAL APPLICANT INSTRUCTIONS Attached is an application for employment as a FIREFIGHTER I with Hall County Government. Copy of certified HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA or GED and your COLLEGE DIPLOMA if you are a graduate. Copy of certified Military Discharge (Form DD-214, Member 4), if you are a veteran of the Armed Forces. Copy of your DRIVER’S LICENSE. Copy of your SOCIAL SECURITY CARD. Copy of CURRENT EMT/PARAMEDIC CERTIFICATION (GA AND/OR NATIONAL REGISTRY) or CERTIFIED COPY OF PASSING SCORES FROM COLLEGE ENTRANCE EXAM. THESE DOCUMENTS MUST BE PROVIDED AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION.

Application must be brought into our office with the above documentation and returned in person, where copies can be made for you. Upon successful completion of applications, applicants being considered for employment with the Hall County Fire Department are scheduled for an INTERVIEW by the Fire Department with the Fire Chief or his designee. The Department of Public Safety and/or law enforcement will conduct a BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION of all applicants. The investigation will include viewing records concerning criminal and driver histories, if any, contacting past employers and personal references as listed on your application and contacts with other parties that might arise from the investigation to confirm suitability for employment. Applicants who are granted interviews and are under consideration for employment will be required to have FINGERPRINTS made as a part of a criminal history background investigation, as now required by Georgia law. Applicants considered for employment are required to complete a POST-OFFER HEALTH SCREENING at the request and expense of the Hall County Government. APPLICATION DISQUALIFIERS Because the position of Firefighter Trainee is one in which the public’s trust is high; the standards that have been set by the County Fire for employment candidates are extremely high. Before completing an application please read the following application disqualifiers. Meeting one or more of these disqualifiers may prevent your application from moving forward in the selection process. DRIVING     

Accumulation of more than five (5) points in the last two years as applied in the Point Key list below. Driving Under the influence of Alcohol or Drugs, as defined by O.C.G.A. 40-6-393. Homicide by Vehicle, as defined by O.C.G.A. 40-6-394. Serious Injury by Vehicle, as defined by O.C.G.A. 40-6-394. Fleeing or Attempting to Elude or Impersonating a Law Enforcement Officer, as defined by O.C.G.A. 40-6395.  Homicide or Serious Injury by Interference with Traffic Control Devices, as defined by O.C.G.A. 40-6-396.  Aggressive Driving, as defined by O.C.G.A. 40-6-186.  Any driver’s license suspension in the last three (3) years. DRUG USE  Any illegal drug use in the past twelve (12) months prior to the date of application and/or hire.  Any sale of illegal drugs or action as a middle person in a drug transaction.  Any repeated experimentation of illegal drugs, other than marijuana, within the past five (5) years.  Any use of hallucinogens. CRIMINAL CONVICTIONS OR ARRESTS     

Any felony conviction and repeat charges that show a pattern. Conviction, or multiple charges, of any crime of moral turpitude. Any family violence conviction. Any DUI conviction. Misdemeanor convictions or patterns of activity, depending on their frequency, job relatedness, seriousness and/or intervening personal background, indicating that the individual would be a high risk as a firefighter due to a disregard for the law. MILITARY  

Dishonorable or less than honorable discharge. General discharges will be judged on a case by case basis.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES: While training for advancement and certification in the Fire Department, assists upper level firefighters in suppression, rescue operations, and all duties associated with assuring fire stations and equipment are ready for all emergency and non-emergency situations. Responds to all emergency calls for fire suppression; assists upper level firefighters fight fires and perform search and rescue; implements all actions necessary to save lives and property; assists with clean-up duties - including searching for evidence at suspicious fire scenes; maintains fire equipment and apparatus; assures all equipment on the vehicles is functioning properly; tests the radio each morning; reports any equipment malfunction or missing supplies immediately to the officer in charge. Participates in continuing study, training, and drill activity to achieve certification, maintain required skills, and attain health and physical strength. Keeps station grounds clean and neat; cuts grass, paints where needed, washes and scrubs floors, etc. Attends training classes to familiarize firefighters with the geography of the area; learns roads and alternative routes to populated areas; learns fire hydrant locations. May assist with public relations duties, assisting with instruction for various groups on fire safety and prevention techniques; learns how to communicate with the public and present an effective program. Performs other related duties as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: High School Diploma or G.E.D. No experience required; must meet state firefighting minimum standards. Basic Firefighter Certification within six months; EMT Certification within 2 years. Must meet all in-house testing requirements. Valid Class C Driver's License and a satisfactory MVR. Ability to attain Class B License within six months of hire. Knowledge of firefighting principles and techniques, and knowledge of local geography, streets, and hospitals a plus. Ability to perform strenuous work under adverse conditions for a sustained period of time, including the ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
