2014 Festivals & Events Program

Objective Provides financial assistance, to a maximum of $3,000, to Nova Scotia festivals and events which help attract visitors to the province and create an experience for travelers when they are here.

Project Expenditures and Application Deadline

Eligibility

Project expenditures must take place between April 1, 2014 and March 31, 2015.

Applicants: • Registered not-for-profit organizations that conduct tourism-related activities and programs that benefit the province or region. Must be in good standing with the Provincial Registry of Joint Stock Companies. Projects: • Activities associated with the marketing and promotion of a tourism festival or event. • Other activities will be considered if supported by the Regional Tourism Industry Association (RTIA) and approved by the Nova Scotia Tourism Agency (NSTA). • Priority will be given to marketing projects that attract visitors from outside Nova Scotia. Ineligible Project Costs: • Capital and operational expenses • Previously funded projects that do not demonstrate incremental value • General administrative (organizational membership dues or registration fees) • Charitable fundraising events, conventions, conferences, meetings, workshops, seminars, clinics, award ceremonies, VIP visits, etc. • Website maintenance and hosting costs • Promotional materials (trinkets, t-shirts, banners, flags, floats, etc.) • Applications submitted by previously funded festival and event organizations that failed to submit a final report Festivals and events must be listed on www.novascotia.com prior to project deadline to qualify for funding.

In order to reapply, previously funded applicants must have met the former program’s conditions

Project application deadline is March 28, 2014. Festival and event organizations from Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) must follow the guidelines for HRM’s 2014/15 Festivals and Events Grant Program and comply with the HRM deadline of January 31, 2014.

Program Conditions Successful applicants will work with their RTIA and NSTA to promote their festival or event via existing and appropriate channels. Projects supported must include the Nova Scotia visual identity/logo and credit NSTA support. Artwork and creative must be approved by the NSTA prior publishing. A final report with project evaluation and proof of payments must be submitted to your RTIA/ HRM within 90 days of the event or festival. A listing of successful applicants will be made public after the review process is complete.

Application Process 1. Complete the Festivals & Events Program application. HRM events must complete the HRM application. 2. Submit application and financial information to your Regional Tourism Industry Association (RTIA contact) or HRM prior to program deadline. 3. The RTIA or HRM will review applications and make recommendations for project funding to the NSTA. 4. The NSTA will evaluate recommendations and confirm funding directly to the RTIAs or HRM. The review and evaluation process will take approximately 6–8 weeks.
