Apple Fair What a great night it was! Each year it seems to get bigger and better. A huge crowd was in attendance throughout the night — they thoroughly enjoyed the food, rides and activities. The way the Fair comes together is amazing and is only possible due to the wonderful community that we have in OG. Also a big thank you to the OGPS staff who came along and supported the Apple Fair. Delta Dogs After Bella’s recent retirement we have been without a Delta Reading dog. I am very happy to announce that we have a new team commencing in term two. Volunteer Robin Burnett and her Labrador Susie will be visiting us on a regular basis to help our students with their reading. She will be coming in for an introductory visit on Tuesday 22nd March to meet the teachers and say hello to the children. Anaphylaxis Management @ OGPS This year it is mandated by Department of Education and Training (DET) that all staff each semester receive updated training in anaphylaxis management and treatment. A reminder to all of our families with children with anaphylaxis that a plan endorsed by a doctor by must be provided to the school. OGPS Cross Country Our Year 3 to 6 annual cross country will begin this Friday, 18th March at 12.00 pm. Grades will walk down at 11.30. From Mr Diment / Continued … … Professional Learning This Thursday the leadership team begins a new course called Leading Curriculum and Assessment. Conducted by the Bastow Institute it is designed to facilitate the effective use of data and assessment in schools to drive student learning. This week we also have four grades who are taking part in the Melbourne University research project called REAP (reaching kids with high potential). From a school’s point of view it is great to be in a position to be able to continue to offer our team members such a high number of professional learning opportunities. National Assessment Program — Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) NAPLAN will be conducted on the 10-12th May during term two. The assessment program tests Years 3 and 5 students in reading, persuasive or narrative writing, grammar and punctuation, numeracy and spelling. Students will have the opportunity to practice all aspects of the assessment in the lead up to the testing period. Please note the dates above, and keep free, as all schools in Australia must complete the tests on the same day and time. Secondary School Open Days I would like to remind our families that many secondary schools are currently conducting their open days, information nights and interviews. As we receive the information from schools we will publicize it in the Grove Gazette. On behalf of the school I would like to wish all of our Year 6 students the best in gaining the secondary school of their choice in 2017. Year 5 Camp Next Week Good luck to our Year 5 students who will be on camp in Ballarat and Melbourne next week. Thank you to our supportive and caring teachers who plan and attend the camp to give our students such a fantastic learning opportunity and experience. I know the students really appreciate the time effort that our teachers put in. Happy Easter! Finally, I would like to wish everyone a wonderful Easter and holiday break. Next Thursday, 24th March (the last day of Term 1), we are having our annual Foundation to Year 2 Easter bonnet parade at our school assembly that will begin at 9.00am. Our Foundation children will then be going down the street to continue their parade. Families are most welcome to attend — last year we had a wonderful turn out. A reminder that on Thursday 24th March, being the end of term we have a 2.30pm finish. Thank you for your continued support of OGPS the best school since 1891. I acknowledge the Wathaurong people as the traditional custodians of the land on which we are gathered and pay respect to the Elders both past and present.

A Snapshot of a busy weekend of activities … …

OGPS at Bellarine Agricultural Show Schools’ Art Competition Well done to all who exhibited at the Bellarine Agricultural Fair over the long weekend Some very colourful sheep !

We are delighted to congratulate a large number of our OGPS students who competed at the Surf Sport State Championships in Warrnambool over the long weekend – many of whom walked away with a medal or two – as State Champions. A highlight in the team events were the Under 9 Girls and Under 9 Boys, who both received a gold medal in the Wade relay, and the Under 10 boys who received a silver medal in the wade relay. Our OGPS nippers (ranging from Grade 2 to Grade 6) train twice a week, rain, hail or shine, from September through to March – and the results achieved at States are a reflection of their hard work, determination and effort. Congratulations!

Volunteers Wanted for Kitchen Garden Program The success of this unique and exciting Program relies on the support of volunteers. There is nothing more satisfying than sharing a delicious meal created with fresh produce that you have grown from seed to harvest. Ocean Gove Primary School’s children share in this experience as part of the Year 5 and 6 Kitchen Garden Program. You don’t have to be a green thumb or a naked chef, you just have to love growing food, eating food and being with children. We are hoping to develop a roster where each small group (5 students) had one adult helper. If you would like to volunteer in the kitchen or garden, whether you have one hour to spare or a whole afternoon, we would love to hear from you. The Program runs on Fridays from 11:30am to 1:30pm Contact: Alyce Graham [email protected]
