If you are having problems and are unable to finish, there are 4 dropout zones / fatigue buses with medical tents. Seeking aid at a medical tent does not prevent you from continuing the race. However, any assistance that results in your being moved forward on the course will result in your disqualification. Buses will depart to the DECC when full. REMEMBER: The drivers are volunteering to help you, so please be kind!
Grandma’s Marathon uses the American College of Sports Medicine’s color-coded flag system. Familiarize yourself with the flag colors which are posted at the starting lines and before every water station: BLACK FLAG – EXTREMELY HIGH RISK: Runners should slow their pace, drink extra fluids and those with previous heat-stress problems or heart disease should consider not running. RED FLAG – HIGH RISK: All runners should slow their pace and those with previous heatstress problems or heart disease should consider not running. YELLOW FLAG – MODERATE RISK: Heat stress is less, but one must be cautious as the level of stress will most likely increase during a morning race. GREEN FLAG – LOW RISK: Risk is low, but once again runners should be careful of symptoms of heat stress. Runners also need to be cautious of changing weather conditions. WHITE FLAG – RISK OF HYPOTHERMIA: The risk of hypothermia exists, especially in slow runners or in wet and windy conditions.
MCQUADE ROAD – Approx. 13.4 miles (just past the Half Marathon Starting Line) LAKEWOOD ROAD – Approx. 16.1 miles (3 miles for the Half Marathon) 60TH AVENUE EAST – Approx. 19.0 miles (6 miles for the Half Marathon) 26TH AVENUE EAST – Approx. 22.2 miles (9 miles for the Half Marathon)
