For the Good of the Order I like all the seasons of the year. However, fall seems to be the one I feel the closest to. This year has been especially nice since the trees have actually changed colors. In the past couple of years, the leaves turned brown and just fell off to the ground. But this year there is color again. The leaves are going out in a blaze of glory. It is wonderful! When I lived in Houston, Texas, there was no real change of seasons as far as the leaves go. So it is nice to be on the East Coast again.

those times in our lives where the leaves just fall off such as illness, personal problems, and so on. But overall aging can be a wonderful thing. To have lived 68 years, is a surprise to me. Have very happy surprise. I realize that with my age comes aches and pains and problems. But life is a gift and it is a one-time experience in this world. How we live our life as we grow older can either be an example for others or a nightmare for ourselves.

fully. There is a saying on my desk that says the secret to life is to live it. As St. Paul says God did not give us live to live fearfully but to live fully. So continue to be an example for others and for each other of how we live in God's love.

It has always surprised me that people do not like to tell their age. It is as if they are embarrassed by living so long. Yet aging can be like the changing of the leaves. It can be a natural and beautiful thing. Yes there are

Advent Traditions Advent celebration and traditions can vary from place to place, influenced by culture. However, some traditions have come to be common throughout the Catholic Church. The Advent wreath is likely the most popular tradition, and wreaths are typically present in both the parish church and in the home. It is a more recent tradition, with the modern Advent wreath emerging in Germany and spreading throughout Europe and beyond in the 1930's. It is often circular, representing God's eternity, and it includes 4 candles - one for each Sunday of Advent. Many families have a wreath in the home, and will light the candles each Sunday and say Advent prayers together. The Jesse Tree is also a popular Advent tradition. A Jesse Tree, named for the father of David, is a tree that is decorated gradually throughout Advent with symbols or pictures of biblical persons associated with the gradual coming of the Messiah, Christ. This includes, among others, Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Joseph and Mary. The Jesse Tree tradition provides a wonderful teaching opportunity; it is a perfect way to teach and remind children about the preparatory nature of Advent. Advent calendars are another popular tradition, although they most often follow the calendar month of December, not the four Sundays which can begin in November. While many popular Advent calendars use purely secular images, A Blessed and joyous Christmas to each of you and your families! Deacon John Hall

Veteran’s Day - Friday, November 11, 2016

Veterans Day is an official United States federal holiday that is observed annually on November 11, honoring people who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces, also known as veterans. It coincides with other holidays including Armistice Day and Remembrance Day, which are celebrated in other parts of the world and also mark the anniversary of the end of World War I (major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, when the Armistice with Germany went into effect). The United States also originally observed Armistice Day which then evolved into the current Veterans Day holiday in 1954. Veterans Day is not to be confused with Memorial Day; Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans, while Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who gave their lives and those who perished while in service.
