VOLUNTEERING I am wondering why many of you joined the Knights of Columbus? Our Members Lounge has the lowest cost drinks in the city along with comfortable seating, large screen televisions, free pool tables and popcorn. Yet most of the time the lounge only has a few people when it can accommodate up to one hundred. We have several parties a year and less than half the people attending are members. The reason being to go out for an inexpensive meal, listen to music and go dancing every now and then. We have a Halloween Party once a year for the children that is absolutely free to the membership and we get less than fifty children out of one thousand families. The Children’s Christmas Party fairs a little better, however where are our families? Lastly, we have several opportunities for a member to be active, such as Bingo, Spaghetti Dinner, Thanksgiving, and the Tootsie Roll Drive. They are the most involved fundraisers that we have every year. Ten percent, just ten percent, of the Council is active. I wonder where the other ninety percent are? Bingo needs volunteers. In the morning helping to prepare sandwiches, setting up the snack bar, in the early afternoon making soup and preparing the rest of the food for when the snack bar opens at 5:00 pm., or volunteering during Bingo between the hours of 6—9:00 pm. It is time for some of our members to do some soul searching. The strength of the Council depends on the activity of its members. I am sure the others would say the same about Spaghetti, Thanksgiving, and the Tootsie Roll Drive. I would be happy if ten members decided to volunteer. We have several volunteers with disabilities that volunteer every week for Bingo. I am challenging each and every one of you to become active in the Council. The choice is yours. We can do so much more for the City of Chicopee and the surrounding communities charities with your help. Kevin Godek, Bingo Chairman

FOURTH DEGREE Dear Brother Knights, Christmas and New Year’s have come and gone. I’m hoping all had a Blessed and Healthy Holiday Season. I would like to thank all the volunteers who helped with the Wreaths Across America this year. It was nice to see so many volunteers and to see so many wreaths to honor our deceased Veterans. We would like to welcome you to volunteer to help out at the Soldiers Home again this month on February 10th at 1:30 for Bingo and refreshments. We are still looking for a Purser to take over for Richard Beaudry. Please consider helping out. We can’t function without volunteers. We’re also doing a raffle on Thursday, February 19th.during Bingo. We need volunteers for that night. Please let me know as soon as possible if you are available. NEW YEAR’S EVE REPORT Fiesta Olé was this year’s theme featuring the sounds of Mike Tourville and Taste of Honey, a Tijuana Brass tribute band. The eight piece band played songs made famous by Herb Alpert like the Lonely Bull, Whipped Cream and Spanish Flea while guests enjoyed a delicious five course dinner finished with a taste of honey and whipped cream of course. After dinner guests enjoyed the Casino, the entertainment of Mr. David Colucci and danced the night away. Souvenir photos were available to capture the event thanks to Mr. Normand Jacques. Just before midnight Mr. Tony Nomacko became $1,000.00 richer, winning the Fiesta Olé Raffle. With glasses lifted high for champagne toasts, noisemakers and streamers, guests welcomed 2015! The party continued with refreshments and dancing till one o’clock in the morning. Attendance topped last year’s 376 with 409. Council 4044 should be proud to know that the word is out that they have the best venue for New Year’s Eve in Western Mass. Being the best doesn’t just happen. It takes a tremendous team with everyone working to create an evening that leaves guests wanting to return the next year because they had so much fun; they were treated with superb service and courtesy, and enjoyed great food and drinks. So to Dave Sarrasin, Jeff Sarrasin, the entire Kitchen Staff, the Wait Staff under the direction of Sue Skorka, and all of the Bartenders (for what would a New Year’s Eve party be if not for a good cocktail!) Congratulation for a job well done and thank you very much! The Honor Guards James Allen, Norm Fleury, Bob Williams and Jean Duquette greeted and welcomed the guests giving the event such a regal feeling. Gentlemen, thank you! As you may have seen or heard, the decorating of the hall is quite elaborate under the guidance of Dave Rosinski of Floral Illusions. The set up crew was Fran, Mike and Cheryl Getto, Bob, Jenn and Alyssa Lelieve, Louise King, Paul Soja, Jack Bouchard, Ed Leblanc, Tom and Karen Charette, Tom Trudell and Frank Cassidy. Thank you very much. The Casino and $1,000.00 raffle is a very important component to the evening making the event a successful fundraiser. To the many Casino & Raffle workers once again thank you for your time and commitment; Ed Stawarz, Ed and Sis LeBlanc, Jim Allen, Norm Fleury, Fran, Mike and Cheryl Getto, Tom Trudell, Rick Carbonneau, Roger Fontaine, Frank Cassidy, Tom Charette, Dave Saraiva, Ken Vautrin and Jack Bouchard. Marketing and advertising on our web page is tremendously important so thanks to Darlene Covington and Bob Gaudrault. This year we added a new Trailer displaying a four by eight foot banner along Memorial Drive thanks to the efforts of Jim McKinnon and Dennis Lacroix. And when the party is over and all the guests are gone home another group helps with take down. So thanks to Fran and Judy Getto, Mike and Cheryl Getto, Marc Grenier and Marie Baines, Denise Bolduc and Ken Vautrin, Jack Bouchard and Frank Cassidy for staying till 2:00 am! A special note of thanks goes to Ed and Sis LeBlanc and Fran Getto for the many nights of ticket sales and to Judy Getto for the guest list. In closing, if we forgot to mention a name please forgive us. We also would like to thank our Guests for coming to our event especially the Shriners for their support. VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH Congratulations Mary Bazinet for being chosen as February’s Volunteer of the Month. Mary is one of many women that volunteer for Bingo every week. Mary works in the kitchen during Bingo, and she helps out wherever she is needed at our monthly Spaghetti Dinner. Mary volunteers every Thanksgiving along with volunteering at the Soldiers’ Home with the Fourth Degree. Without Mary and the other women we would not be as successful as we have been. There’s no threat of a February blizzard like last year in New Jersey. This year’s game is at the University of Phoenix in Glendale, Arizona. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 pm est. The lounge will open at 1:00 pm and close after the game. There will be snacks served through out the day. We will have a buffet table for you to enjoy at half time. If you wish to bring your favorite foods and have your own little party that is fine. Enjoy the pool tables, large screen televisions, juke boxes, cards, and much more. Come on down and take advantage of all the lounge has to offer. The juke box will be shut off once the game begins. Tables will be on a first come basis, none will be reserved.
