Graduate Semester Abroad at Babson… • Opportunity for one semester of full-time study at one of Babson’s partner universities • Programs to fit a variety of interests and goals – Diversify your business knowledge base – Immerse yourself in a different culture – Build a professional network abroad

• In the past four years, 35 graduate students have participated in a semester abroad

Who Can Study Abroad?

• All applicants must: – Be in good academic and disciplinary standing (at time of both application and participation)

– Have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or greater (at time of both application and participation)

– Have completed core classes (prior to participation)

• Academic Goals: – What do I want to study while abroad? – How will my studies abroad complement my Babson courses? – Do I speak another language and do I want to use that language abroad?

• Career Goals: – What transferrable skills can I develop abroad? – Will a particular program/country enhance my professional network?

Your Questions Answered • Do I have to speak the local language of the program? – All programs offer courses taught in English – Coursework may be offered in the local language for students with advanced proficiency – Some programs strongly suggest pursuing language study prior to participation in order to manage cross-cultural communication more effectively

Your Questions Answered • When can I study abroad? – Fall or spring semester – though fall is more common – Some programs offer only fall semester – The fall semester at some schools fits better with the Babson academic calendar – Studying abroad during the spring of your second year may delay your official graduation date

• Can I talk to a student who has been? – The Glavin Office maintains a list of past participants who are willing to share information about their time abroad – The Glavin Office can also put you in touch with current and past exchange students from partner universities who are studying/have studied at Babson

• Is study abroad pass/fail? – Babson “C” or better to receive credit for coursework from abroad – Grade conversion is listed in Approved Course Spreadsheet – Credits and grades transfer

FINANCING EDUCATION ABROAD

Financing Education Abroad • Pay Babson tuition, to Babson, for your semester abroad – You will receive Babson credit in the end

• Housing, meals and any other costs are paid to the host institution

Financial Aid and Education Abroad • Financial aid may be applied to your semester abroad, since you are paying Babson tuition • If your financial aid covers more than your tuition... – You may use the remaining credit balance to pay for room, board or other costs related to the program – You should provide SFS with a copy of a bill listing room, board or other costs so they can arrange payment to the visiting school. Typically this happens in July for fall programs and November for spring programs.
