2014 GPS Sailing Championships | Notice of Race

1.

RULES 1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing 2013 - 2016. 1.2 The Prescriptions and Special Regulations of Yachting Australia Inc will apply – Part 2 (off-the-beach classes) 1.3 The Pacer Class Rules and Pacer Sailing Rules published by Pacer Australia Inc. Will apply with the following exceptions: 1.3.1 Pacer Class Rule Part 1, Rule B2.1 is deleted. 1.3.2 Pacer Sailing Rules C.3 is modified to accept complete boats supplied by recognised builders of Pacer Class Yachts as meeting the fundamental rules of measurement for the duration of this regatta only, unless substantially modified by the individual. 1.3.3 Pacer Class Rule Part 1, Rule B2.3 is deleted. 1.3.4 Mainsails need not carry the class insignia. 1.1 This is a non-spinnaker regatta.

ADVERTISING Boats may be required to display advertising chosen and supplied by the organising authority.

3.

ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY 3.1 All skippers and crew shall be financial members of a yacht or sailing club affiliated with a State Yachting Authority and Yachting Australia. 3.2 All skippers and crews must be members of a division of the Pacer Australia Inc. OR sail in a boat owned by a Group Member of Pacer Queensland Inc. eg. A school or club. 3.3 All students sailing in this regatta must be under nineteen (19) years of age as at 31 December 2014. 3.4 Students in Years seven (7) to twelve (12) are eligible to compete. 3.5 A ‘Team’ shall consist of three (3) boats with a maximum of seven (7) sailors from a G.P.S member School. 3.6 Each school can nominate a maximum of two (2) teams for the GPS Championship. 3.7 The mainsails on all boats shall carry sail numbers or a combination of numbers and letters which are easily distinguishable. 3.8 Eligible boats and teams may enter by completing the attached form and sending it, together with the required fee to: Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron Sailing Office PO Box 5021 Manly QLD 4179 - by 2359hrs 28th March 2014. 3.9 Online entries can be made via http://enter.rqys.com.au 3.10 Late entries will be accepted however will incur a late fee.

6.

SAILING INSTRUCTIONS The Sailing Instructions will be available from the RQYS Sailing Office or online via http://sailing.rqys.com.au from 1300 hours Friday 28th March 2014.

7.

VENUE 7.1 The host club is Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron – 578 Royal Esplanade Manly, QLD 4179 7.2 Attachment 2 shows the location of the racing areas.

8.

THE COURSES The courses to be sailed will be Windward/Return or Triangles as outlined in the Sailing Instructions.

9.

SCORING 9.1 The Low Point Scoring System of Appendix A will apply. 9.2 The combined finishing places of the three (3) boats nominated for your Team will determine the Team score. 9.3 Ten (10) Races are scheduled of which one (1) race is required to be completed to constitute a series. 9.4 When four (4) races or less are completed a boats series score will be the total of her race scores. 9.5 When five (5) to eight (8) races have been completed a boats series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst race. 9.6 When nine (9) or more races are completed, a boat may discard its two (2) worst scores.

10.

RADIO COMMUNICATION Except in an emergency, a boat shall neither make radio transmissions while racing nor receive radio communications not available to all boats. This restriction also applies to mobile telephones.

PRIZES Prizes will be given as follows: 11.1 Individual Sailor: Scratch – 1st 11.2 Firsts Team: 1st – GPS Sailing Champions 11.3 Seconds Team: 1st

DISCLAIMER OF ENTRY Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See rule 4, Decision to Race. The organising authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.

13.

INSURANCE Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance with a minimum cover of $5m per event or equivalent.

14.

BOAT HIRE RQYS Pacers are available for hire – first in first served. $30 hire fee and $50 refundable damage deposit

ATTACHMENT 1 – RQYS PACER HIRE 1.

RQYS PACER HIRE The cost to hire an RQYS Pacer for the 2014 GPS Sailing Championships will be $30.00 payable in full before the commencement of the first race of the regatta.

2.

DAMAGE DEPOSIT A $50.00 damage deposit is required for each boat hired. The damage deposit will be fully refunded provided the hired boat received no damage. Damage caused amounting to more than $50.00 will be payable in full by the hirer.

3.

PACER ALLOCATION Fifteen (15) RQYS Pacers will be available for hire with competitors being assigned a boat based on the time and date entries are received. i.e. first in first served. Gold Pacers x 7 Silver Pacers x 7 + Emerald Pacer x 1
