Today we arrive in Madrid, the capital of Spain. We are met by our local representative and taken to our hotel, where we'll stay for the next three nights. Before dinner, we have some time to relax and freshen up after our journey. THURSDAY, MAY 11 | BD

We take our leave of Madrid this morning and travel to the ancient Castilian capital city of Toledo (WHS). Here, we see the Moorish Bridge and the Church of Santo Tome with one of El Greco’s most famous paintings. We'll pass the house where El Greco lived, and then visit the Museo de Santa Cruz - Toledo's most famous museum. After enjoying the perfectly preserved, incredibly narrow streets and beautiful buildings we travel on to our hotel in Cordoba.

Day 3 · Avila - Escorial Monastery

SUNDAY, MAY 14 | BD

This morning we tour Avila, one of Spain’s most interesting cities, which still retains its formidable medieval walls and towers and has been dedicated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site (WHS). Next is a visit to the enormous Escorial Monastery (WHS) built by King Philip II and where Spanish kings are buried. Then, we stop at the Valley of the Fallen to admire the 492 foot cross presiding over the vast Basilica carved from sheer rock. This site commemorates the thousands who died during the cruel Civil War. We then travel back to Madrid for dinner and overnight.

Cordoba was the capital of an independent Spanish caliphate, and developed into one of the most brilliant cities in Europe. It became a centre of learning attracting students from all over the western world, promoting active exchanges between Christian, Muslim and Jewish scholars. Narrow winding streets, small squares and low whitewashed houses - most with beautiful patios, give the town its Moorish atmosphere. This morning we will tour the historic city centre and see "Alcazar de los Reyes Cristianos" (The Palace of the Christian Kings) and "La Mezquita" (WHS), once one of Islam's most impressive mosques and now a cathedral. A special treat today will be attending the Royal Stables equestrian show - a beautiful performance of the Andalusian horse.

Day 4 · Madrid Tour - Prado

Madrid is the largest city in Spain with a population of over four million. Our morning tour includes the Cervantes Monument, the Cibeles Fountain and the Puerta del Sol. The highlight of our tour will be a visit to the Royal Palace with its magnificent marble staircase and scarlet throne room. This afternoon we visit the Prado Museum with its fine collection of art. After, we have time to wander the area until our bus takes us back to the hotel.

SHARED & SINGLE ACCOMMODATION Passengers must indicate at the time of booking whether they want to share a room or if they prefer a single room. Your roommate, if known, should also be indicated. If you do not have a roommate we will attempt to find a suitable travelling companion to share a room with you. If you join the tour by December 10, 2016 and we are unable to find a roommate, you will only be charged one-half of the single supplement. If you join the tour after December 10, 2016 and we are not able to find a roommate, you will be charged the full single supplement. Triple rooms, while not recommended, can be arranged. RESERVATION CHANGES If you want to change your reservation, such as change your departure city or
