AESA Colleagues and Friends: I would like to personally invite each of you to New Orleans for the 30th Annual AESA Conference. “The Big Easy” provides a perfect venue to savor tradition and experience renewal blended with incomparable opportunities to share and learn. The 2015 conference theme “Get Rid of the Noise and Listen to the Music” promises to stimulate thoughtful dialogue and guide ESAs to enhance the success of each student as well as the districts we serve. This year we will be joined by dynamic keynote speakers who will offer their perspectives on what we must do to innovate and invigorate the work of ESAs across the nation. Choose from a myriad of concurrent sessions as colleagues offer best practices and share inspiring processes designed specifically to meet the ever changing needs of CEOs, board members, and ESA staff. I also encourage you to make a trip to the exhibit area where you will meet our remarkable business partners and sponsors who are an important part of the AESA family. I thank you for attending and bringing your expertise to our gathering. Educational experts often describe leadership as learning through collaboration. Your voice matters to the AESA membership as our agencies and national organization continue to grow and adapt, remaining always, energized, motivated and responsive.

Prior to the AESA Annual Conference, you may wish to consider the Technology Leadership Summit, a separate event sponsored by the National Association of Media and Technology Centers (NAMTC).

The AESA 30th Annual Conference has something for everyone! From the dynamic keynote speakers to the informative concurrent sessions, this conference is sure to exceed your expectations! Refer to the Conference at a Glance for a full listing of activities scheduled for Wednesday to Saturday. Don’t forget about the networking opportunities that await you in the Exhibit Hall!

Speaker Friday, December 4th, we will feature Dana Mortenson, Co-Founder and Executive Director of World Savvy. Dana’s passion is working in partnership with educators to close the global competence gap in American education. She believes in the transformative power of global education to contribute to peace, justice and equity on a global scale. A recognized expert in the field of global education, she has spoken at the Harvard University School of Education, 21st Century Schools Consortium and the Social Venture Partners national conference.

Breakout Session Strands College and Career Readiness College and Career Readiness are more than buzzwords! They are the result of a dialogue between the school and the communities they serve regarding the skills and abilities required of students to be successful. What does this mean in your ESA? How have you addressed this in your organization and what programs can you showcase as great examples of preparing students. You may wish to present what has worked and what has not worked as you focus on preparing students for the future.

ESA Board Leadership Visionary leaders and administrative teams are only as innovation as the boards that govern them. What is the role of ESA Boards as their organizations provide support to school districts and their students. Your colleagues will be eager to learn more about the work that you have done with our Board to facilitate change while maintaining appropriate accountability.

Open Here is your opportunity to highlight a new product, service or partnership to create new opportunities for students, forge new efficiencies that allow districts to direct more resources to the classroom or collaborative effort among stakeholders to support students and increase achievement. Anything that doesn’t fit into the other three categories is welcome here?

STEM Science, technology, engineering, math and innovation design is the currency of 21st Century powerhouse corporations and entrepreneurs alike. How has your ESA provided support to your schools in the areas of professional development and student programming for STEM? How do we make sure that our teachers are ready to provide instruction with STEM in mind? Have you come up with creative ways to introduce STEM in earlier grades?

Networking Opportunities At the conference there are a number of networking opportunities from spending time in the exhibit hall to the Opening and President’s Receptions to the Friday morning Networking Breakfast. In addition to these formal activities there is time between sessions and during the two lunches for you to get re-acquainted with your colleagues or make new friends among the conference attendees and exhibitors.
