Schedule Preventive Care

Your Physical Exam

When it comes to living well, prevention is the best medicine. Consider this: According to the Partnership for Prevention®*, 100,000 lives could be saved each year through better use of preventive care services. What makes these services such a powerful tool?

Your plan for prevention should start with a periodic physical exam. If you haven’t already done so, call your doctor to schedule your appointment today. Below are some tips to help you take this important step:

• First, services such as blood tests and screenings (part of a periodic physical exam) can flag key risk factors, such as high blood pressure and high cholesterol. These risks can lead to chronic illness and premature death. • Preventive screenings, like mammograms and colonoscopies, can catch potential problems in their earliest stages, when they’re easier to treat and cure. • The information you and your doctor gain through preventive exams, tests and screenings help you understand the state of your health, for better or worse, and create a plan to address risks and make improvements. Finally, if you think preventive exams and screenings are just for older people and/or those with health conditions, think again. Prevention is important at any age, even if you’re in the best of health! *Partnership for Prevention, www.prevent.org.

• Visit your primary care doctor for screenings and other preventive care. He or she can run tests to help determine your health status as well as provide basic care and referrals to specialists. • Don’t have a primary care doctor? Add this healthy relationship into your life. Your primary care doctor gets to know you and your unique health history and needs, and can recommend effective actions that will help you maintain or improve your health. Remember, a primary care doctor can be an internist, general practitioner, family practitioner or pediatrician. To find a primary care doctor, use your health plan’s online provider directory to locate network doctors near you. You can also call the Member Services number on your ID card. • Get preventive care at an LM HealthWorks Wellness Center. Wellness Center services are convenient, confidential and offered at no charge to all active Lockheed Martin employees. Visit LMPeople on the Intranet at https://lmpeople.lmco.com > Health and Wellness > Visit a Wellness Center, for locations and information on how to schedule an appointment. LM HealthWorks Plan members: • Preventive care services are typically covered at 100%, with no deductible or coinsurance. • Looking for an in-network primary care doctor? Visit DocFind at www.aetna.com or call 1-877-458-4975 to speak with an LM HealthWorks Plan representative. • Get help in your selection. Learn about doctor rates and quality of care at www.lmhwplan.com > Take Action > Doctor Rates/Quality of Care.

Know Your Numbers

Move More During the Day

As part of your periodic physical exam, you’ll have your blood pressure taken and your doctor will order blood tests to determine your blood glucose and cholesterol levels. By taking your height and weight, your doctor will also be able to calculate your Body Mass Index, an estimate of body fat.

When you’re physically active during the day, you set the stage for more energy, fewer extra pounds and better overall health. If your job keeps you moving, all the better. If not, set time during the day to get up and get moving. Here are some ideas:

Why are these numbers important? They can forecast your risk for health conditions such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes and certain cancers. Below is a chart that shows the numbers to shoot for, and what they mean for your health.

• Take the stairs instead of the elevator.

To know your numbers, make an appointment with your primary care doctor for a physical exam or visit an LM HealthWorks Wellness Center. For help bringing your numbers into the healthy range, talk with your doctor. He or she can work with you to put together a plan that combines healthy eating, exercise and other actions to take. Good numbers

Why it’s important

Glucose (blood sugar)

70 to 100 mg/dL

A blood sugar level of 126 mg/dL is a marker of diabetes, which can lead to heart disease, stroke, nervous system damage and pregnancy complications.

Cholesterol ■ Total cholesterol

200 mg/dL or less

LDL 100 mg/dL or less (bad cholesterol) ■ HDL (good cholesterol) – males 40 mg/dL or more – females 50 mg/dL or more Blood Pressure

120/80 or less

Body Mass Index between 18.5 and (BMI)* 24.9

High cholesterol is a key risk factor for heart attack and stroke.

High blood pressure may put you at higher risk for a heart attack, stroke, kidney failure and blindness. Being overweight (BMI = 25 to 29) or obese (BMI = 30 or more) is linked to health problems such as heart disease, diabetes, osteoarthritis and certain types of cancer.

* To calculate your BMI:

• Park your car farther from your workplace entrance.

• Keep a pair of walking shoes in your car, in your locker or at your desk. • Try walking 10 minutes before and after work, and 10 minutes at lunch — these minutes add up! Put it on your calendar and it’s more likely to happen. • Get outside — shovel snow, push the lawn mower or rake leaves. • Take your dog for a walk. • Have fun with your children — play Frisbee, hopscotch or jump rope.

Wear your pedometer If you’re already signed up for the Virgin HealthMiles Physical Activity Tracking Tool program, make sure to wear your GoZone® pedometer as often as possible and watch your HealthMiles add up. There’s even a newer style pedometer available for purchase now, too. Have you had success with Virgin HealthMiles? Tell us your story by sending an e-mail to [email protected]. Be sure to put “LMC Member Story” in the subject line of your message. Not yet signed up? Visit www.virginhealthmiles.com/ lockheedmartin to get started and receive a GoZone pedometer free of charge. Your family and friends (age 18 and over) can also get started by signing up through VHM Get Active at www.virginhealthmiles.com/getactive and paying $29.99 to join (which includes a GoZone pedometer and the first month of membership) as well as a subscription fee of $2.75 per month.

Challenge yourself Remember, as part of the Virgin HealthMiles program, you can create and run your own Personal Challenge. Challenge yourself, a co-worker or friend (as long as he or she participates in Virgin HealthMiles). You can even challenge your spouse or domestic partner if he or she participates in VHM Get Active.

• Multiply your weight in pounds by 704.5. • Divide the result by your height in inches. • Divide that result by height in inches a second time.

LM HealthWorks Plan subscribers: When you join and actively participate in Virgin HealthMiles, you can earn $50 for your HealthFund. Your enrolled spouse won’t receive a HealthFund credit but can still participate through VHM Get Active.

LM HealthWorks Plan Member Reminders Start completing 2011 Healthy Actions early this year. • Take the 2011 Personal Health Assessment (PHA). It is offered to help you know more about your personal health status and risks — and actions you can take to maintain or improve your health. Learn more about the PHA and view a PHA Roadmap to see what happens with the information you submit, what the PHA delivers for you — and for all of Lockheed Martin at www.lmhwplan.com/pha. Be sure to complete the PHA early in the year to get more value out of the recommendations, supporting programs and resources that go along with completing this Healthy Action. By taking the PHA during 2011, employees can receive up to $250 and spouses / same-sex domestic partners can earn up to $300. As a reminder, you must complete the PHA first before you can receive rewards for completing the other Healthy Actions. To get started visit www.lmhwplan.com/pha. • Wear your GoZone pedometer often and track your physical activity using the Virgin HealthMiles Web site. Employee subscribers that reach 6,000 HealthMiles (Level 2) during 2011 can receive a $50 HealthFund credit. Achieving Level 2 could take a few months or longer, so participate regularly to allow yourself time to progress. To sign up visit www.lmhwplan.com > Mission: Health > Physical Activity Tracking Tool.

Things to Consider: The one-time company contribution provided in 2010 will not be provided in 2011. Although there will not be a company-provided contribution, each employee and spouse (or same-sex domestic partner) may earn up to $350 each for their HealthFund, up from $250 each in 2010. Additionally, new credits added to your HealthFund will be applied to future claims only. Please note that credits added to your HealthFund are not applied retroactively to claims that have already been processed. After completing Healthy Actions, please allow 10 days for processing.

Call the Nurse Advice Line at 1-877-458-4975 Available 24/7, the Nurse Advice Line lets you talk with experienced registered nurses who can answer questions, help you make health-related decisions and give you ways to address a health problem until you can get to the doctor.

Take advantage of health management programs Did you know you can get one-on-one support for specific health needs such as managing a chronic condition or preparing for the birth of a child? You can also tap into programs to keep you healthy, whether you’re ready to quit smoking, start a walking program or get a flu shot. Learn more at www.lmhwplan.com > Mission: Health.

• Certify as a tobacco non-user via www.aetna.com. You and your enrolled spouse or domestic partner can each add $50 to your HealthFund by completing this action during 2011. • If you are a tobacco user, join the Quit For Life® program and complete four coaching calls this year. Quitting tobacco is not easy, but with the support of the program’s trained professionals, it can be done.
