In medieval times Eilenburg’s main business was brewery. Martin Luther was a common guest in the prosperous city. In the following centuries the small village Eilenburg emerged as a city dominated by industry. In April 1945, Eilenburg was almost completely destroyed. The „Sorbenturm“ is the only remaining part of the Ilburg. It was assumedly built at the highest part of the 220m x 150m plateau. CPD11 Wagshurst 31.07. – 14.08.10 RENO, ENVI Vol:12 Language: English, German Age: 18-26 The project: A few years ago the association „Integration Schollenhof“ started to rebuild a very old and empty farm, the “Schollenhof”, in order to make it useful for the children of an integrative Montessori- school. The emotional history of this deserted homestead goes way back to the Middle Ages. The first documented record of it was made in 1319. Lots of its rooms are still in the oldfashioned style of the old farm houses of the region. For this reason it was used as a historic set for a television series about the 20s. Today the “Schollenhof“is a meeting place for handicapped and nonhandicapped people. Later it will become a place for them to live. The Location: Wagshurst is located in the Upper-Rhine lowlands between the Black Forest (“Schwarzwald”) and the bordering territory with France. From the yard one can see the forest starting right behind it and the panorama of the Schwarzwald. The area is very famous for its beautiful scenery and cherry tree flowers in the spring. The work: A garden, a pottery with a furnace, stables for horses, goats, sheep and geese as well as an oven to bake bread have already been created. However there is still much to do in renovation of the house and the facilities of the farm. Study / Leisure: In your free time you can ride a bike to the nearby lake. There will be visits organised to picturesque places in the Black Forest and to the French city Strasbourg. Furthermore, you will learn a lot about integrative Montessori-pedagogy practices. The project: More than 40 years ago, when the Vietnam War escalated, we started to promote peace in Sievershausen. In an old barn, sleeping and seminar-rooms were established. The „Antikriegswerkstatt” became the basis of the Peace Centre “Antikriegshaus Sievershausen”. Expansions and further renovations followed. Now there are several 13 buildings, surrounded by a nice park, including a guest house and a museum with an assembly hall. The Antikriegshaus is at the verge of a village with about 2500 inhabitants. Sievershausen is located about 30 kilometers from the Lower Saxony provincial capital Hanover at the freeway to Berlin. The work: Volunteers will build a “Window of Peace” within the village, a wall for posters and other artworks, also for announcements concerning our work for peace. This means carpentry, painting and crafts. Volunteers with a talent for designing are also welcome. There is a nice garden around the buildings of the centre. We will do some garden work as well as we will renovate parts of the building. CPD14 Spangenberg 11.08. – 02.09.10 RENO, FESTIVAL Vol: 10 Language: English, German Age: 18-- 26 The project: In Spangenberg, a small village in the south of Kassel, in the middle of Germany, there is the „Himmelsfels“ (Heavensrock), a rock with an area of 8 hectares attached to it. Placed on this area there are so called embassies of different countries - caravans that have been modified artistically. In the summer there are several events concerning art, culture, gospel and encounter. This year the „Himmelsfels“ will be the venue of an christian festival called „Landesjugendfest“. Hundreds of young people will come and spend some days enjoying a rich program with a wide range of activities: arts, sports, singing, theater, praying and singing gospels, etc. With the help of an international team we want to enrich this festivity and attach an international flair to it. The “Himmelsfels” foundation is a Christian organization which aims to developing spaces for intercultural and ecumenical exploration, as well as to motivating people for a life characterized by equality and common values. The project is especially directed to young people who support and are eager to join the community of Christian spirituality. The work: Most of the work will be done with kids and young people from Spangenberg and the nearby communities. Workcamp participants will present the countries they come from, just like 14 ambassadors do. For this, they will work together with the young people in small groups. The teenagers will get to know the country of their ambassador and show him their city in return. Therefore it would be helpful if the volunteers prepare their workshop artistically, musically or athletically at home and bring lots of ideas. In addition the volunteers will have the chance to introduce their country on an open evening. You should gather ideas at home and bring material for creating this evening. You should also be prepared to do regular manual work. The Study part: The study part of this workcamp will be dominated mostly by the question after the life between past and future, tradition and modernity, small-town-life and global correlations. CPD16 Giessen 14.08. - 28.08.2010 SOCI, REFUGEE Vols:12 Age: 18-26 Language English/German The project: The central Asylum Centre for asylum seekers in Hessen is located in the city of Giessen. There are currently about 150 Asylum- seekers in Giessen who came to seeking asylum in Germany out of various reasons, e.g. political, ethnic, religious, persecution or poverty. Usually they stay at the facility for months until a decision has been made about their asylum application. Sometimes they are sent to other centres or to other so called- “safe countries” where they entered the European Union, or to their countries of origin. Most of the people living in the Asylum Centre in Giessen are from Turkey, Iraq, Iran, Eritrea and Balkan: Young man, women, children and older people. The asylum seekers live under simple conditions and are not allowed to work or leave the district in which they live. Their permission to stay in Germany is often quite limited and so is their contact with the locals living in the city. The international volunteers are invited to the Asylum centre for two weeks to take part in the daily life of the refugees. In the study part of the camp, we want to discuss the situation of refugees in Germany and Europe, as well as the current developments in the area of Asylum-policies. We want to get in contact with the residents of the Asylum Centre so that we can learn about their stories, difficulties and perspectives. The work: Together with the refugees we want to organise common activities, where the women and children are taken into consideration. In addition, our goal is to get in contact with the young members of the local protestant church to raise greater awareness for the refugees and to break the isolation of the refugees. Ee will prepare contact with students of the university that are willing to take care of the

medical issues of the refugees and to pursue the legal issues of the asylum law. We will also get in contact with students of the University who medicate peoples without legal status. We especially invite volunteers to participate, who are able to speak Turkish, Arabic or Farsi. Besides organising common activities with the refugees we want to work together in the reception centre to maintain the playground and to renovate the café. Surrounding area and accommodation: Giessen, a city populated mostly by students, it is located in the mid-west of Germany. Giessen is easy to reach via the Airports in Frankfurt and Frankfurt Hahn. There are plenty of possibilities for leisure time activities like playing soccer or canoeing as well as possibilities to visit some other cities. (e.g. Marburg, Frankfurt or Heidelberg). The work camp will be hosted by a local protestant church which is already involved in working with the refugees. The premises of the church are plentiful and for that we will have a lot of space for sleeping, cooking, dining, relaxing, indoor and outdoor activities. What to bring: Sleeping bag, camping mat, work clothes, bathing suit, sunscreen, music, your talents, something typical from your country Terminal: Giessen, Next airports: Frankfurt, Frankfurt Hahn, Hannover 16

CPD19 Bedheim 05.09. – 19.09. 10 ENVI, RENO, DISA Vols:16 CPD20 Bedheim 03.10. – 17.10. 10 ENVI, RENO, DISA Vols:12 Age: 18-26 Language: English, German The project: The Bedheim castle is located in the west of Thuringia, close to the Bavarian border. The next bigger town is Coburg (28km away). Bedheim is surrounded by the extraordinary beautiful Franconian landscape. The castle, which slowly rotted at the time of the German Democratic Republic (GDR), is now being renovated by the community of heirs of Ruehle von Lilienstern. A non-profit association is supporting the renovation work. Since 1992 this association has been organising workcamps with yap-cfd. In 1994 a biological-dynamic, social therapeutic recognized nursery was added. The association is running an organic market garden. Since 2007 the castle also runs a garden café. A shared house for senior citizens, a pension as well as a small castle museum are also planned. At the moment we build a place for disabled people to live and work together. Besides training courses and cultural activities are offered. Aim of this whole project is to create an atmosphere where people with or without disabilities may come, live and work together without any prejudice against handicap, nationality or religion. The work: Volunteers will work 5 hours daily, either in the organic-dynamic market garden (“Demeter”) or in the castle (intensive renovating work). It’s important for you to know that in our market garden work sporadically disabled people. Since the castle was neglected during the east-west conflict (DDR) it is in a bad condition and that’s why we need to put effort and hard work in it. During the first workcamp we will prepare and run the “Day of the Open Monument” (on Sunday, the 13th of September). The study part: Volunteers may learn more about the following topics: natural beauty in the environment, excursions to places of cultural and historical interest (e.g. Weimar, the city of Goethe), discussions and lectures about German history, society, culture and politics (the German East-West border was only 9 km away from Bedheim), encounter with young people of the region, getting to know more about living in the countries volunteers come from. 18 The accommodation: Simple group accommodation. IBG 01 Hoetensleben (Saxony-Anhaltine) 09.07. - 31.07. RENO/HIST 12 vols Project: The main project will be to maintain the site of an open-air-museum and memorial of the Iron Curtain. Hoetensleben is a village which was situated directly on the eastern of the German-German border when Germany was divided during the period of the cold war. An association was founded called “Grenzdenkmalverein” was founded after the fall of the Iron Curtain which maintained four hundred meters of the former frontier protections system as a kind of open-air-museum. Visitors can still experience the different walls and electric fences, the watchtowers and iron barriers and get a feel for the violence of this monument. Work: Volunteers will work on the upkeep of this monument. The concrete tasks might include clearing the former path used by border guards to patrol the border from vegetation, painting the lorry barriers, and restore the wall and fences. The workcamp includes several study-parts on this period of the German history with several excursions and activities together with local people. Accommodation: in the former village hall, different sleeping rooms Location: Hoetensleben is a little village with approx. 2.500 inhabitants. International workcamps have been invited for some 13 years, so local inhabitants are looking forward to welcome the volunteers and many activities will be done together with local associations e.g. the voluntary fire brigade of Hoetensleben. Volunteers should be interested in a close contact with the German population and in German history. Therefore, volunteers should add a short motivation letter describing their interest in this special project. Volunteers need to be able to ride a bike! Next airport: Hanover, Berlin Next trainstation: Helmstedt

IBG 02 Nagold (Baden-Wurttemberg) 11.07. - 28.07. ENVI 13 vols Project: Following the success of 15 years of projects, the youth centre of Nagold again invites an international workcamp. Local youth will be around at all times so participants can look forward to establish a close contact with them! Next airport: Stuttgart (50 km) Next train station: Nagold

IBG 03 Karlstadt (Bavaria) 17.07. - 28.07. FEST 15 vols Project: During summer some communities in Germany host music festivals for young people. One of those festivals – called “Umsonst & Draußen” (free of charge & outdoors) – will be set outside the town of Karlstadt and run three days from the 23th-25th of July. The towns young people have been organising festivals for a long time now, this year will be the second time to invite a workcamp to help with the exciting but also demanding tasks of setting up the festival in July. Around 35 bands are invited; 12000-15000 visitors are expected. Work: The international group will work together with many helpers from Karlstadt. The main tasks will be setting up of the stage and campground on the site of the festival as well as the disassembly at the end. While the festival is running the volunteers will assist in different areas: bar, stage, organisation, catering etc. Volunteers should be flexible enough to work long and unusual hours – and enjoy music! Speaking or understanding basic German will be a plus! Accommodation & Food: The group will be lodged in tents on the site of the festival where all helpers will also stay. Food will be served in the festival canteen throughout the day. Sanitary facilities are given, but be aware of festival standards. Basic conditions! Location: Karlstadt is situated in the Bavarian region called “Franken”. The town holds around 7000 inhabitants and has a historical touch to it. If you are interested in architecture you will find lots of nice sights in the centre of town. Also the region with its vineyards and hills provide an opportunity for some calm and relaxing outdoor activities as an alternative to the hectic life of the festival. Next airport: Frankfurt, Nuernberg Next train station: Karlstadt Special requirements: We ask for a motivation letter to be sent with the application!

IBG 04 Roettenbach (Bavaria) 17.07. - 31.07. RENO/CONS 15 vols Project: The community of Roettenbach has a special project planned for their young people and pupils this year. It is the first time for the community to invite a workcamp and they are excited and happy to receive some support in renovating a local school yard and youth club. Work: In detail the work will be divided in two parts. On the school yard some seating (benches etc.) needs to be renovated and canopied. Beside that a climbing wall will be put up to make the school breaks and leisure activities of the school´s pupils more varied. The second part of work will be for and at the local youth club. Here the entrance needs to be painted and the outside section of the house paved. It will be physical work that is very much appreciated by local young people. You´ll have the chance to get to know them while working with and for them. Accommodation: will be in two rooms at the school. Mats or beds, showers and toilets will be at hand in the accommodation. Also a kitchen is in place, so the volunteers will cook and prepare food for themselves. Location: Roettenbach is a small community with around 4500 inhabitants, situated close to the city of Erlangen in Bavaria. It´s a pretty, Bavarian commune with a beautiful landscape around! There are quite some activities to do after work. Of course, first of all there are the local people and youth who

are awaiting the workcamp. You will experience life in a Bavarian village. Of course you can visit different nearby cities such as Erlangen and Nuernberg. Next airport: Nuernberg (20km), Frankfurt, Stuttgart or Munich (ca. 100 km or more) Next trainstation: Erlangen

IBG 05 Lauterbach (Baden-Wurttemberg) 17.07. - 07.08. ENVI/CONS 10 vols Project: Adventurous… technology-free nature workcamp! A few years back the community of Lauterbach invited a workcamp for the first time. Most of all, the ranger in Lauterbach is very happy to be supported by a workcamp at different environmental and construction tasks in a nature protection area! Work: There will be different tasks waiting for you to help with: First of all so-called “neophytes” (invasive non-native vegetation) need to be removed in the nature protection area. You will cut and clear those plants. On different hiking trails benches, signs and view points will be renovated. Further more, cleaning and clearing of vegetation needs to be done in biotopes like ponds and tarns. The work will be physical. Due to working in damp and steep areas (ponds), rubber boots and/or sturdy shoes are necessary for working effectively! Accommodation: Outside of the community in the middle of the forest lies a very cosy and basic blockhouse which will be the groups´ accommodation for two weeks. There will be a kitchen, living room and two sleeping rooms (sleeping bags and mats have to be brought!). Toilets are at hand and there is a tube with cold water. Showers can be used at a public swimming pool to which each of the participants gets free entry – bathing clothes will come in handy. You will have to be flexible and like this kind of adventure - living outside the community this way. Due to the position of the house we remind you that there will not be access to internet and no coverage for mobile phones. Just be prepared to spend three wonderful, adventurous weeks away from your busy and usual everyday life! Location: Lauterbach is situated in the heart of the Black Forest nature park close to the cities of Schramberg and Rottweil approx. 100 km south of Stuttgart, close to the Swabian Albs (not Alps!!) and the Black Forest – in Southern Germany. That means there will be a lot of possibilities to hike and experience nature first hand. Just step out of the door and find yourself surrounded by beautiful nature! It will be possible to see some surrounding places of interests and towns/cities you might be curious to get to know. Towns like Rottweil have a long history, astounding architecture and other cultural highlights to discover. Be aware that you´ll live idyllically yet isolated in a wooden blockhouse outside the community! Next airport: Stuttgart Next bus/trainstation: Lauterbach, Schramberg

IBG 06 Mainz (Rhineland-Palatinate) 18.07. – 07.08. RENO 12 vols Project: The „Alte Ziegelei“ is a former brickyard founded in 1900 to produce bricks in industrial manners with big ovens and technical machines. The factory was closed in 1972 and it provides a good insight into European Industrial culture. An association was founded to prevent the destruction of the area and to ensure the maintenance of its character for non profit reasons: now the former industrial place is under heritage protection and used as a centre for social, cultural and artistic activities. More than 50 refugees found home in former factory buildings and different actions are well established such as a school for actors, an ecology group, a kindergarten, a historical museum about the production of bricks, ateliers for artists and educational institutions. The place can be used by the general public for festivals, theatres, having barbecues and celebrating parties. Work: Volunteers will help with the renovation of the roofs of several smaller buildings. Apart from the stall for the chickens, the roof of an outside baking oven needs to get renewed as well as the roof of another small building. Professional supervisors will explain the tasks and take care of security.

Next airport: Frankfurt International Airport Next train station: Mainz

IBG 07 Heilsbronn (Bavaria) 18.07. - 31.07. CONS/RENO/ENVI 13 vols Project: After the success of the projects in the last two years the town of Heilsbronn is anxious to host another workcamp this year. There will be different renovation and environmental goals to be achieved by the workcamp group around the beautiful town in Bavaria. Work: The responsible person in charge of the workcamp in the town hall is a big fan of workcamps and international groups. He and his colleagues are very happy to have another group supporting them in tasks like remodeling a part of a school yard into a rest area where students can relax and recover from a busy day in school. That means building a small fountain and seating-accommodations. Apart from that there are several tasks that need to be done outside of Heilsbronn on a hiking trail. Accommodation: In the local youth club with all necessary facilities. The local youth who normally occupy the club will be welcoming towards you and are looking forward to get to know the group. Location: The town of Heilsbronn is located in the idyllic Bavarian region called „Franken“. Typical for the small town with its 9300 inhabitants are the old half-timbered houses. Heilsbronn also has some unique sights to offer, for example the monastery and the cathedral. Nature friends can find several hiking trails in the beautiful landscape around the city. Remarkable above all is that “the Way to St. James” also known as “Camino de Santiago” leads through Heilsbronn. For this reason the region is adorned by many old churches and frequently visited by tourists as well as pilgrims. Next train station: Heilsbronn Next airport: Stuttgart, Frankfurt, and Munich

IBG 08 Trier (Rhineland-Palatinate) 18.07. - 07.08. RENO/ENVI 12 vols Project: The historical rose garden on a hill above the city centre is a protected cultural heritage. The site needs to be restored to regain its old historical character. An international workcamp started with this task last year. This year the project will continue and should be completed. Work: The paths passing the rose garden will be renewed, so that visitors can better circuit the site. Work will include transporting materials such as gravel and stones, laying steps and installing handrails and benches. The metal entrance gates and the wooden arches and columns for the plants will also need some care. Beside of this you will work to improve the yard of the accommodation (a non-profit youth and culture association) to make it greener and friendlier. The project will take place in co-operation with the department for public green areas in Trier. Work will be supervised by professionals. Attention: Work can be physically hard in parts and the intensity of the work will be high (long working hours!). Please be prepared for this. Accommodation: will be in a youth and culture club next to the river Moselle and a public swimming pool. The inner city of Trier is at 20 min walking distance. Two sleeping rooms and showers are at the disposal of the camp, the kitchen and the living room might be used by other people as well from time to time. As also other people will use the club during the camp period, there will be a chance to get to know young people from Trier very easily. Location: Trier is the oldest German city located very close to the border of Luxembourg. It has approx. 100.000 inhabitants and many famous sites as the Porta Nigra. It is also the birthplace of Karl

Marx. You will have plenty of opportunities for sight-seeing, and there is lots to see and do. The surroundings are dominated by the valley of the river Moselle with its very steep vineyards. IBG 09 Eisenberg (Rhineland-Palatinate) 25.07. - 13.08. ENVI/RENO 12 vols Project: Eisenberg is a small community situated in the beautiful south-western region of Germany called “Pfalz”. Eisenberg used to be a busy community heavily involved in underground mining. After closing the mine at the end of the 1980´s nature has recaptured most of the area and created a unique landscape with small ponds, forest and marshland. Already last year an international workcamp assigned to make the landscape accessible for people of Eisenberg and neighbouring communities. Many visitors are enjoying the area on the weekends. It is a popular place for children most of all. Work: The volunteers will help to clear vegetation in different places of the former mine area called “Erdekaut”, help to dig out an excavator/digger which was used while the mine was still active. Last years´ workcamp started to free the machine, but more has to be done to make it visible again. The working tasks offer a great opportunity to learn about plants and nature in general. It is the perfect workcamp for people who love nature and to work outside and with their hands. Accommodation: The group will live in a well-equipped building of a sports association close to the working place (about 500 meters) complete with one sleeping room, showers, toilets and a kitchen. Mattresses or beds will be in place. Around the house you can find a sports field (soccer etc.) and a barbecue place which helps to relax after work. Eisenberg lies close to bigger cities like Mannheim or Kaiserslautern Next airport: Frankfurt (Main), Frankfurt (Hahn) Next trainstation: Eisenberg (Pfalz)

IBG 10 Weissach (Baden-Wurttemberg) 25.07. - 14.08. KIDS 15 vols Project: Weissach is a small community close to Stuttgart in the south of Germany. The municipality invited a workcamp last year already and made the group feel very welcome. This year they have planned something special: Every year during the school holidays the community organises a summer camp for children in the age 6-13. This year though, the 30 leaders of the summer camp are supposed to be 15 German and 15 international volunteers. Work: Specific working tasks are to attend and look after the kids and youngsters throughout different activities like excursions, games and bonfires… - a typical summer camp! On the 30th of July all leaders will help build up the camp site and plan the activities together. Two leaders (one international, one German) will be in charge of a group of 15 kids. The centre of the camp will be a big circus tent which will host different activities. So, if you like spending time with an international group and children, if you like to be asked a lot of (German) questions and love to provide an outlet of the curiosity of children – you are the perfect participant in this camp! Welcome to Weissach! Working hours will be long but very rewarding! Some knowledge of the German language would be helpful but isn´t obligatory! Activities: In the beginning between the 26th -29th of July the group will get an introduction in the project and also have the chance to experience some major group building activities so that all leaders can smoothly work together and make the stay worthwhile. Accommodation & Food: All leaders and kids will stay in tents on the camp site. All facilities will be available. Food will be served.

Location: Weissach is a village with around 7000 inhabitants, very active and committed. It lies close to Stuttgart but also has a lot of nature to experience and enjoy after work or at the weekends. The international group will have the chance to meet local people and exchange cultural aspects. Next airport: Stuttgart (30 km) Next train station: Stuttgart, Leonberg Special remarks: German skills are helpful but not necessary. We ask for a strong motivation and a written motivation letter with the application!

IBG 11 Muehlhausen (Thuringia) 31.07. - 14.08. RENO 15 vols Project: The local host is a charity organisation running workshops and schools for disabled. They have been hosting workcamps for many, many years now. Former workcamps experienced a very warm welcome – especially successful camps benefit from a proper exchange between employees/workers at the workshop and the international group. Work: The charity organisation has its own farm (horses and more) for children, restaurant, and holiday place called “Alter Bahnhof” outside of town. The surrounding of the farm for kids needs to be worked on and renovated. In addition to that there will be various painting and gardening jobs around the workshops and the school of the charity organisation. The project mostly focuses on the exchange between international volunteers and the local people who work in or with the charity. Bring ideas and be open towards this exchange since it needs your motivation and open heart! Accommodation: The group will be living in a cosy, yellow house on the property of the charity organisation next to the buildings of the workshops. Kitchen, sleeping rooms and sanitary facilities are on-site – and much more. There is a big garden around the house with meadow, trees, a pond and a barbecue grill. Next to the workshop buildings you can also find a soccer field. On the roof of the house there is a balcony from where you have a great view on the landscape around. Muehlhausen provides a lot of shopping possibilities and is easily reachable on foot or by bike. Location: Muehlhausen is a very old German town with about 50.000 inhabitants. By visiting the city centre and looking at the old houses you can still imagine how Germany must have looked like in former times. Muehlhausen is situated in the beautiful forest of Thuringia. Nearby are many interesting places like the city of Weimar (home of the poets Schiller and Goethe) or the Wartburg where Martin Luther translated the new testament of the bible. There are also many other interesting and historical places to go for an excursion. Next airport: Leipzig Next train station: Muehlhausen (Thueringen)

IBG 12 Schenkenzell (Baden-Wurttemberg) 31.07. - 14.08. ENVI 15 vols Project: In the middle of the Black Forest you can find a small and pretty community called “Schenkenzell”, which is about 750 years old and was mainly busy in mining and agriculture and known for its monastery and floating tree stems. Today Schenkenzell is more of a residential municipality and a destination for tourists – since the region is plastered with hiking trails and a wellknown brewery is to be found in the next town. Even though agriculture and farming has almost died out completely, Schenkenzell is still surrounded by meadows and land. Around 10 km outside of the community you can find a biotope, formerly used as meadows for animals. Work: Since the meadows were not used frequently anymore the creek that runs through has totally overgrown. The consequence was that the water couldn´t run properly anymore, instead transformed the meadows into marsh land. Eventually it could not be used at all anymore. You as a workcamp group will have the task to clear out the creek so that it can run smoothly again. That means you have to dig out soil, clear out plants, thereby protecting this cultured nature. It will be physical work and since the land is quite moist you should bring water proof shoes with you – ideally rubber boots!

Accommodation: You will live in the centre of the village in the gym hall which is a suitable place since it has beds, showers and kitchen to offer. The hall is also normally used for different kind of activities, partys and events. All necessary things can be found in Schenkenzell itself (bakery, pharmacy and the like). For proper shopping there are bigger supermarkets around 5 km away. Region: Schenkenzell is a quite small community, has a lot to offer nonetheless. It is a perfect starting point for excursions and hiking trips into the surrounding Black Forest. You can visit the brewery or close bigger cities like Freiburg and Strasbourg. Anyway, it may be most entertaining and interesting to get to know the local population throughout the weeks. You will have the chance to experience a local and funny festival / party of the sports association on the first weekend where you will get to know many young (and probably older) people in Schenkenzell. Next train station: Schenkenzell Next airport: Karlsruhe (Baden-Baden) for Ryan Air flights, Stuttgart or Basel-Mulhouse.

CONS/RENO 12 vols Project: In the 1970s three previously independent villages merged to create the community of Gaeufelden. The population is around 9000 inhabitants. On the community ground many dry-stone walls are used as field boundaries and can be seen as a biosphere for particular animals and plants. A dry-stone wall is a wall that is constructed from stones without any mortar to bind them together. The wall is held up only by the interlocking stones, which must be carefully selected by their shape. Work: The municipality invites an international workcamp again to do the dry stone walling. Volunteers will be supervised by a worker, who will teach them the best techniques. Work will be hard and volunteers should bring old clothes and sturdy boots! Accommodation: The group will be accommodated in a living container, used as a youth centre. It includes kitchen, sanitary facilities and is situated in a smaller part of Gaeufelden. Location: Gaeufelden is a village in the county of Boeblingen and in about 30 km distance to the city of Stuttgart. Hiking trips in the nearby Black Forest are possible as well as excursions to bigger cities. IBG 19 Schwanfeld (Bavaria) 15.08. - 28.08. RENO/ENVI/HIST 12 vols Project: The community of Schwanfeld is supposedly the oldest village in Germany. Some years back proof of a former settlement outside of the present village from presumably 5500 B.C. was found. Schwanfeld is happy to show their treasures of the olden days to international volunteers and invite a group to get to know more about the south of Germany. This is the second time a workcamp will take place in Schwanfeld – and everybody will be very welcoming and excited to meet the new volunteers after the success of last year. Work: Due to Schwanfeld being the “oldest village in Germany” they plan to open up an exhibition of “Linear Pottery” found in the area of Schwanfeld (the oldest rural culture in the Middle of Europe) in October or November this year. Some work has to be done before the opening and the international volunteers are invited to help with these while getting to know more about the history of the village. Apart from that different tasks could use the energy and help of the workcamp group: Hiking trails in the surrounding nature of Schwanfeld need renovation (signs, benches and the like) but also tasks in the area of landscape protection and preservation are awaiting. There will be a diverse list of works. Accommodation: The group will live in the local gym hall next to the school. Toilets and showers can be found there. A kitchen can be used in the nearby community centre. Location: Schwanfeld is situated in Bavaria, close to the city of Wuerzburg. Around 2.000 people live in the community. The very motivated and active mayor of the village is looking forward to show the volunteers around and inform them about the historical and regional specifics of Schwanfeld. Next airport: Frankfurt (Main), Nuernberg Next train station: Waigolshausen

IBG 20 Eppelheim (Baden-Wurttemberg) 15.08. - 28.08. CONS 15 vols Project: The small town “Eppelheim” offers a special project. It is the first time to invite a workcamp to help with such a big project, it therefore will be a unique experience for everyone involved in the project. In the centre of town there is wasteland that is supposed to be transformed into a communal park for the inhabitants of Eppelheim. It holds enough space for a (water) playground and sports ground, a beautiful rose garden and herbal garden and a square – so that one should be reminded of a typical Italian “plaza”. Work: The international volunteers involved in this project will help with the planting tasks and setting up of different constructions for the playground. Since there is a lot to do everyone can play a part in this project due to his or her own interests and skills. Some of the works will already be done until the workcamp arrives since the opening of the park is supposed to happen this year and all works should be done by the end of summer. Support the community in this process – they are happy to receive your energy and strength! Accommodation: will be in rooms of the fire brigade! Bring your sleeping bags. All other facilities are at hand! Location: Eppelheim is a cosy small town close to the beautiful city Heidelberg, with inhabitants summing up to around 14.500. For cultural highlights it´s only a short hop to Heidelberg experiencing history and city life. Nevertheless the nature around Eppelheim is stunning and diverse with its hills and forests. Next airport: Stuttgart, Karlsruhe (Baden-Baden) or Frankfurt / Frankfurt (Hahn) Next trainstation:. Heidelberg, Eppelheim

IBG 21 Kappelrodeck (Baden-Wurttemberg) 22.08. - 04.09. CONS 12 vols Project: After the great experience of the first workcamp two years ago the municipality of Kappelrodeck invites one again. This year the group will create something new: It´s the towns wish to create a so called “barefoot path” which consists of different natural materials that are supposed to be sensed and experienced through the feet by walking barefoot on it. Materials like sand, stones, bark mulch and wood will be used for different parts of the path. This path is very exciting for children, but anyone will have fun and some relaxing time using it! Next airport: Strasbourg (France), Karlsruhe Next train station: Kappelrodeck

IBG 22 Schorndorf (Baden-Wurttemberg) 23.08. - 12.09. ENVI/RENO 13 vols Project: Close to Stuttgart lies a town called Schorndorf which invites a workcamp for the first time to help with environmental and clearing tasks on the „Frauenberg“ – a small mountain. Locals are awaiting you with many ideas! This project is not only about the working task but also about the exchange between (young) people from Schorndorf and the international group. Work: The small mountain “Frauenberg” is about 350 m high. The walking paths have to be reconstructed which means you will work physically and have to be ready to walk uphill to your working site. Your main task will be to lay a new foundation for the paths and also clear the paths where it has overgrown. Work alone will be a good way to meet local people, but there is more… Accommodation: will be in a house of the german Red Cross in a suburb of Schorndorf. The house offers beds/mats, toilets, showers and a kitchen. It is not directly located in the centre of Schorndorf but easily reached by S-Bahn (suburban train) which also links Schorndorf to Stuttgart. In the neighbourhood of your accommodation you can find a “natural swimming pool” with waterslides and the like – a relaxing place to hang out after work. Different other associations have houses next door so you will likely be able to make contact easily. Location: Schorndorf is situated close to Stuttgart – at about 30 km distance. It´s an old city with pretty old half-timbered houses in the typical southern german style and a special charme and history. In your freetime enjoy and discover Schorndorf and the surrounding nature. Due to a very good local train connection to Stuttgart you will have possibilities to see the capital of Baden-Wurttemberg. Plus: events with locals are already in the making! IBG 23 Wangen (Baden-Wurttemberg) 28.08. - 11.09. KIDS 12 vols Project: It is the second time that the municipality of Wangen invites a workcamp to help out at the local summer festivals and activities for children. In the course of two weeks a play scheme called “Mini-Wangen” (31.08.-04.09.) and a farm holiday for local youngsters will run. Plus, the group is invited to help out at the local “forest kindergarten”. Children at the age of 7-10 years are invited to participate in the play scheme. Around 120 children are expected to attend the activities, so there will be all kinds of action and adventure. More adventure and “natural sights” are offered in the second week of the program. The group will move to an eco-farm near Wangen to plan and take care of a group of young people who will spend their holidays on the farm. Half of the group will help out at the forest kindergarten and will be involved in taking care of kids. Work: The participants of the workcamp will help and support to take care of the kids at several different activities at the play scheme in the first week. They are generally helping the children enjoy their summer holiday. The activities of the festivals are running from 8 am until 3 pm each day so the group should be prepared to work long hours – which can be stressful but also fun and very rewarding. As mentioned the group who will spend their second week on a farm. One part of the group will be there all day to attend the activities planned with and for the young people who are taking part in this vacation. There will be trips, games and other activities planned to keep everybody entertained. Own ideas and strong motivation are very welcome. The other part of the group will of course live on the farm as well but spend their days helping out at the very special day care called “forest kindergarten”. In the afternoons and evenings the group will be together and live with the young people from Wangen. Accommodation & Food: In the first week the group will stay in a well equipped self-catering house belonging to a monastery close to the city centre. All sanitary facilities and kitchen are available – and the monks (neighbours) are very welcoming. The group will prepare meals for themselves.

The group will move to the eco-farm in the second week and live there with a group of young people from Wangen. Everybody will cook, prepare meals and eat together at the farm. Location: Wangen is a beautiful city situated in the southern German region called “Allgaeu”, close to the borders of Austria and Switzerland. The region lies close to the Alps and is therefore provided with a diverse nature of mountains, meadows, waterfalls and the like. There is a lot to discover in terms of history and nature. Old castles, mountain trails, the Lake Constance. But also Wangen itself has much to offer. The history of the city dates back to the year 815. The charm of Wangen lies within its historical buildings and southern German architectural style. Due to moving to the eco-farm in the second week the group will have the unique chance to get an insight in ecological farming and living on a farm in southern Germany. The region is stunning and offers a great lot of natural sights and activities… plus, the exchange with local young people will be extra high due to living arrangements on the farm. Definitely two exciting, adventurous and diverse weeks! Next airport: Munich, Stuttgart. Next train station: Wangen. Special requirements: Camp language is German. German motivation letter is required.

IBG 24 Kehl (Baden-Wurttemberg) 18.09. - 09.10. ENVI 10 vols Project: For the past eight years the municipality of Kehl has asked international workcamps to help with environmental protection in their town. There are two tasks to fulfill, explained by professional supervisors. Work: The first task will be the rebuilding and renovation of a nature trail. Definitely volunteers will learn a lot about typical vegetation and its ecological richness. Secondly, the banks of a small river need to get cleared from rubbish, grass and bushes to prevent flooding the town. In former times the river was redirected to run in concrete tunnels and it was biologically dead. The municipality has removed all the concrete, allowing the small river to flow through the town once again over a length of 3 km. There are now many plants and animals living in and by the river. Volunteers will clear the banks of the river and cut the grass and bushes. They will work with machines and it may be physically hard and muddy. This is a good project to learn about nature protection and conservation. Accommodation: The group will live in a youth centre where all facilities are provided. There is a kitchen and different rooms to stay and spend time in. It might happen that volunteers will sleep in big tents in the garden (in case of cold nights they can move into the house). You should be prepared for this and bring a warm sleeping bag! Be open to get in contact with the local youth since they are your hosts and neighbours throughout the workcamp! Location: Kehl is a medium sized town at the bank of the river Rhine facing the French-German border. The Alsatian town of Strasbourg is situated on the other side of the river Rhine. It will be interesting to visit the beautiful town of Strasbourg, crossing the border to France. The youth centre is only a five minutes’ walk from the inner city of Kehl. Other interesting outings can be the Black Forest and the nature of the southern area in general. Next airport: Strasbourg (10km), Frankfurt (Main) (150km) Next train station: Kehl

IBG 25 Mariaberg (Baden-Wurttemberg) 02.10. - 16.10. RENO/SOCI 15 vols Project: Shortly before arriving to Gammertingen you will find an impressive building on top of the hill to your right – an old monastery towering over the surrounding hills and forests of the Swabian Albes. This old monastery is the centrepiece of a quarter of Gammertingen called Mariaberg! It is a beautiful place where a diverse range of people – young and old ones – come together, live, learn and work. Not only does it hold kindergartens, schools and working places for disabled but also provides a

daily life with market square, swimming pool, restaurants and gym halls like a small town. We ask you to come with an open heart and mind! Work: Together with the gardener of the initiative you will work on the renovation of a part of a walking path around Mariaberg. More precisely you will help clearing a field where a serpentine path will be set up and support environmental and renovation work around the old mill that is situated outside of the village. Accommodation & Food: Accommodation will be in a gym hall in the centre of Mariaberg close to all needed facilities like shower, toilets. You will certainly have access to the swimming pool of the quarter and have the opportunity to use different other facilities. You will not prepare meals for yourself since there is no kitchen close to your accommodation. Hence, you will be served in the local Café and restaurant of the “village”. Location: As mentioned, Mariaberg is a part of the town of Gammertingen situated on top of a hill around an old monastery. Gammertingen is situated 80 km south of Stuttgart, amidst the Swabian Albes (not Alpes!!) within spectacular nature – a beautiful mountain chain. Without a doubt you will find enough to do in Mariaberg itself (swimming pool, barbecue, gym halls, bowling, restaurants and café!) but the region with its nature, typical Swabian villages and small towns is really inviting as well. Next airport: Stuttgart, Karlsruhe (Baden-Baden) for Ryan Air flights Next trainstation: Gammertingen

IBG 26 Augsburg (Bavaria) July RENO/SOCI/FEST 12 vols Project & Work: The city of Augsburg has a long history of workcamps to look back on. This year the international group will once again be involved in different tasks and events that directly involve them in the everyday life of the city. It´s very helpful to bring an open heart and a flexible mind as well as to be keen on renovating and gardening work. The volunteers are invited to spend a part of the workcamp time in a kindergarten – not only working on renovation and gardening but spending time with the kids and being involved in their daily life. The group will also have the chance to be in contact with a meeting point for all generations – probably be included in ideas and events that will be planned there in summer. Augsburg is a big city so that major events during summer are a daily occurrence. This year the women world soccer championships (U20) will partly take place in Augsburg on 16th of July. The help of the workcamp in this festival-like event will be much appreciated! Accommodation: The youth club “Lehmbau” is located in the outskirts of the city of Augsburg next to a big swimming lake. It is a meeting point for children and youth from the neighbourhood and offers lots of leisure activities such as beach volleyball, climbing, canoeing, handcrafting or take care of and have fun with the animals (donkey, sheep, goats, rabbits,…). You will be accommodated either in a big tent in the yard of the youth centre or in the inside rooms. Camping beds are provided; sanitary facilities and kitchen are inside the youth centre. Warm sleeping bags are necessary, because nights might get cold (even in German summertime). Local kids and youth will be around – volunteers have chance to get in contact with them and should be open for it! Location: Ever since its founding by Caesar Augustus - after whom it was named, the city of Augsburg has stood at the intersection of some of the most important trade and travel routes on the continent. Nowadays the population is about 280.000 and the face of Augsburg has been shaped by its 2000-year history. The city offers plenty of possibilities for spending leisure time. The youth club can be reached from the inner city by bus in 20 minutes or by bike, therefore volunteers need to be able to ride a bike! In 200m distance to the youth club there is a nice lake in which one can swim. Next airport: Munich Next train station: Augsburg

Volunteers should also be able to ride a bike and be quite flexible since working tasks are diverse!! We ask for a motivation letter about the willingness engage socially and being open-mind towards the diversity of the local people the group will work with. IBG 4M Kirchzarten (Baden-Wurttemberg) 14.08. - 28.08. RENO/CONS 15 vols 4-Motors-Youth-Project!! For special partners only! Project: Following the success of last years’ projects, Baden-Wurttemberg again invites young people from the Four Motors regions Baden-Württemberg, Catalunya, Lombardia, Rhône-Alpes for a Youth Project. The fundamental aim is to allow young people to meet and exchange. That way they contribute to intensifying the Four Motors partnership. Due to close contact to the local population the idea of the Four Motors is passed on to the population of the town hosting the project. This year’s project will be about discovering the Black Forest and its people in the beautiful community of Kirchzarten. Work: Firstly, the group will support some renovation works in a “pupils house”, where pupils spend time during and after school. Around the house a small garden house will be built as well as a climbing wall for increasing the fun of the pupils in their breaks. Parents and pupils will be with the group and are looking forward to get to know the international participants. Secondly, the “Schluchsee” is waiting for the group: this beautiful lake is in some kilometers distance to Kirchzarten. The town lies in the region called “Dreisamtal” and has about 9.500 inhabitants.
