Germany Attractive Destination for North American Students Evidence that Germany is an increasingly attractive destination for North American students continues to mount. 2015 statistics show that the number of American students pursuing degree studies at German universities has eclipsed the 10,000 mark, a year-over-year rise of almost 9% and a 25% increase since 2008-09 (more details here). In the Canadian case, the rise is even more dramatic with the overall numbers jumping by more than 45% between 2010 and 2014. Dr. Alexandra Gerstner from the DAAD Information Centre Toronto is confident that recent years have only seen this trend continue: "Over the past several years, our office has seen a marked increase in the number of inquiries from students, and their parents, regarding degree studies. Awareness of the high quality of the German university system and low costs associated with living and studying there is on the rise and giving many cause to seriously consider Germany as an option."

Interest in Study in Germany on the rise: DAAD at recent Study and Go Abroad Fair in Toronto

Gerstner points out that Master's level studies are particularly attractive to many students: "At the graduate level, there are literally hundreds of English-language degree programs on offer and naturally this eases the transition into the German academic environment for many." An excellent resource for students looking to inform themselves about degree studies in Germany and all that entails is the website Study in Germany found at www.study-in.de. In addition to information on the application process, living and working arrangements and other important topics, the site also includes a searchable database with entries on each degree program currently on offer at German universities so that students can quickly identify specific programs of interest to them.
