Accessing Project Manager

The first time you access Project manager, the directory will default to your current directory. From then on it will always remember the last directory you were working from. You can change directories by navigating using this window.

The TYPE option controls what you see in the Projects window. Project will show you all files with a .prj extension in your current directory.

Design shows you all files that end with a .dgn extension in your current directory.

All shows you all files in that directory.

Create New Directory will create a new subdirectory under your current directory structure.

Current Working Directory will change your directory to your current working directory. Remember, Project Manager will always default to the last directory you were in. This is an easy way to change the directory to your current one.

The PROJECTS pulldown allows you to Create, Edit and Delete projects.

Creating A New Project

Creating A New Project

When you create a new project, GEOPAK will create some additional files in your directory.

The Project Users dialog allows you to Create, Edit and Delete users for a particular project, as well as control Passwords. Note: You can create as many users as needed for a project, but you must always create as least one.

Creating A New User

When you create a new user, GEOPAK will create a subdirectory with that username under the /projdbs subdirectory.

Road or Survey? ROAD > Access the Road Tools through the Road FlowChart/Workflow dialog. SURVEY > Access the Survey Tools through the Survey FlowChart/Workflow dialog. * Note that this is the only way to access GEOPAK Survey Tools.

Road Flowchart/Workflow Dialog

File > Close Closes the workflow dialog and returns you to the Road/Survey choice dialog. File > Exit Exits Project Manager Completely.

Remember > Project Checking this option will remember your project and will not prompt you to select a project. Remember > User Checking this option will remember your user and will not prompt you to select a user. Remember > Road Checking this option will remember that you are using the Road Workflow dialog and will not prompt you to choose between Road and Survey.

AutoSink Checking this option will automatically sink the flowchart behind your active views whenever you select a tool. It will automatically be re-expanded and brought back up when you close the tool

Road Flowchart (Shrink it!)

The flowchart can also be shrunk and expanded as shown through the use of this little button.

Working Alignment

You can create a Working Alignment for each centerline on your job. You can then assign relevant information (such as Chain Name, Existing Profile name, Proposed Profile name, DGN file locations, etc.) to each Working Alignment and Project Manager will remember that information and manage it for you.

Creating A Working Alignment

The Select button can also be used to Copy, Modify and Delete a Working Alignment. Note that you can copy a Working Alignment from the same project and user, from another user within the same project, or from a different project altogether!

Defining A Working Alignment

Defining A Working Alignment

Working Alignment Influence Runs

Before explaining how a Working Alignment can influence a run, it might be good to understand just “What is a Run?”. A run is where information for a particular process is saved under a unique name.

You can choose to have a Working Alignment influence a run or not by enabling/disabling the toggle on the flowchart.

As you create Working Alignments and runs, additional information is added under the user’s subdirectory.

Project Manager File Structure •Superelevation – 002 •Proposed Cross Sections – 003 •Earthwork – 004 •Cross Section Sheets – 005 •Define (Working Alignment) – 008 •Existing Ground Profile – 009 •Vertical Alignment - 00a •Plan / Profile Sheets - 00c •Existing Ground (DTM)- 00d •Limits of Construction - 00c •Existing Ground Cross Sections - 00e •Reports and XS Quantities - 00f •3D Model – 010 •Draw Patterns - 01

Recall that when we defined our Working Alignment we defined information for all 3 “ports”:
