Introduction to Genersys

Genersys Plc Genersys thermal solar systems are a high quality heating systems used for the production of hot water for numerous applications. The flat plate panels are suited to all hot water solutions both domestic and commercial. Genersys systems are indirect, pressurised and pumped. They produce hot water without creating any carbon dioxide or any other greenhouse gas and create no pollution during operation. They produce energy without using scarce fossil fuels and are cost effective. Genersys manufactures the solar flat plate collectors in Europe. Genersys has approximately one million systems installed and actively in use in Europe and other countries in the world. (Ireland, Australia, South Africa, Mexico, Korea, Chile and the United States of America) Altogether, Genersys systems are used in over 60 countries. Genersys and its associated businesses have the largest market share of all flat plates in the United Kingdom, Ireland and Germany. Genersys flat plate panels are designed to provide more than thirty years of trouble free heat energy from light. By carefully balancing the need to produce heat with the need for longevity, Genersys flat plate panels do not suffer from overheating problems and are deigned to operate in a wide and differing range of environments. Installations are in such diverse places as on top of Germany’s highest mountain to the Mexican desert. Genersys PLC operates an ISO 9001 Quality System and its products are manufactured in a fully qualified ISO 9806 parts 1 & 2 factory. The panels and systems are certified to BS EN 12975 (parts 1&2) and meeting ASNZS 2712. In addition, all Genersys panels benefit from the Solar Keymark. This is the highest standard of certification for the United Kingdom and the entire European Community. Very few other systems have this standard. In addition, we also have approval for distribution in the United States and Canada. Genersys is also proud to be associated with SRCC certification in the United States of America, the United Kingdom’s Energy Technology List and many other national and international organisations designed to protect consumers of flat plate thermal solar technology. It should be carefully noted that there are two different methods of testing the efficiency of solar hot water panels. Some systems are tested against ISO 9806. ISO 9806 testing measures the difference between input temperature and ambient temperature. Other systems are tested against EN 12975. EN 12975 testing measures the difference between the mean collector fluid temperature and ambient temperature. It is therefore not correct to directly compare efficiencies for panels tested against these two different test standards.

Genersys Solar Australia Pty. Ltd. Genersys Solar Australia Pty. Ltd. is a company formed to promote many types of renewable energy. Our thermal solar panels under the umbrella of the Genersys brand are exported to over 60 countries. Project

Collectors / Panels: We recommend using the 1200 Series Genersys flat plate collectors. The Genersys 1200 solar panel has been certified and independently tested to comply with BSEN 12975 part 1&2 and the SRCC OG-100. Each panel has a 20-year warranty. Genersys 1200 Series is a world leading commercial flat plate solar panel with many unique patented technologies & designs. There are no welds, nuts, bolts or screws used in its construction. Panels are designed to take high temperatures, be maintenance free and do not require covering during the summer time, i.e. pressure gauges at the plant room reduce hazardous on roof checks and maintenance. Further detail can be found in the 1200 Series Data Sheet document. The Genersys 1200 solar panel tray is stamped from a single sheet of aluminium manganese alloy, anodized for corrosion protection and which is built using our proprietary folding technology. The seamless method of construction is very strong and durable. There are no rivets to come undone and no welded seams or solder to weaken, which can act as a weak point in the structure which will be subject to large amount of thermal stress (Appendix 2 page 2.). The panel glazing is strong with low reflection, high absorption and low emissivity. The glass has to be very clear and not frosted. The frosting often disguises poor absorber construction and can reduce the absorption efficiency. (Appendix 2 page 3). The absorber plate and heat pipe are of long working life. The Genersys absorber plate is made of a single sheet of aluminium and using a specially patented technique is folded around the heat pipe. This means that there is 340º contact between the heat pipe and the absorber plate. This method of fixing enables the sheet aluminium and the copper pipe to expand and contract while holding their shape and full contact with each other so that heat can conduct efficiently with minimal loss (Appendix 2 page 4) There is no welding, soldering or bonding used on the Genersys 1200 Series panel which could fail in time due to the high differential temperatures experienced with solar panels.

In the Genersys 1200 the heat pipe is a continuous copper pipe without joints (except at the two connections to the manifold pipe). This is a robust form of construction preventing leaks, weeps and avoiding liquid loss in the collector which tends to condense on the glazed surface, thus preventing optimum efficiency and over a period of time decaying the absorber surface (Appendix 2 page 5). The 1200 panels are selectively coated (creating a series of microscopic ridges to present a greater surface area to the light) with Genersys’ own formula titanuim oxide coating Absorber with plated, highly selective, mirotherm in thin layer technology for low loss lightheat conversion with quick transfer of heat to heat transfer pipe. This coating is 100% safe (Appendix 2 page 6).

Genersys panels are designed to stagnate and hold heat stresses over a long period of time without causing panel/collector damage. The customer should be able to leave the property vacant and unattended knowing that the panels will safely stagnate and will not require covering in times of high isolation and low heat requirements. This overcomes the problem of having to “dump” the heat. Genersys 1200 panels are designed to stagnate, in other words they will not get hotter than that regardless of isolation conditions. In Genersys systems the heat circuit is pressurised to 58 psi. This means that the Glycol does not evaporate until the temperature of the heat circuit is in excess of 150 degrees Celsius thus ensuring that in very hot daylight conditions all heat requirements will still be met. The heat circuit is a parallel-series connection, also known as Tichelmann system. This is a special system under which the heat pipes are connected both in series and in parallel ensuring that pressure is equally maintained in all parts of the system. Genersys panels installed by an approved installer are guaranteed for 20 years. Frames Super-Structure Our Structural Engineering Company will inspect the existing roof structure and will give consideration to the existing dead and live loads and the additional superimposed dead load for the solar panel arrays being attached to the existing roof. We may recommend using an additional support superstructure to suit the roof profile, with minimum pipe runs and ducting to the plant room access and will provide a structural design for the supply and installation of this superstructure to mount our special aluminium pitching array frames. We have estimated a sum that includes a structural wind analysis. Solar Pumps: Genersys solar pumps included in our quotation allows the transfer of solar heated glycol mixture to be delivered from the collector panels to the heat exchangers in both the pool returns and to the potable hot water pre-heat tank. These pumps are part of the thermal solar circuits, are efficient and have an extremely small demand on the electrical energy usage compared to the system output. Expansion vessel: Genersys solar heating systems are pressurised. The panels are designed to take high temperatures and do not require any cover during the summer time. For operational reasons a pressure vessel is connected to the system and sized according to the number of panels. Controller / BMS: This provides complete control of the solar circuits for both the hot water and pool heating. The system will be fully adjustable and can be integrated into your existing the BMS (BACnet compatible). We will provide the specification at the next stage.

Piping and pipe insulation: Our Engineer will determine pipe sizing in the next design stage. Pipe insulation will be high quality synthetic with a complete closed-cell structure that is resistant to temperatures up to 175°C and exposed UV conditions. Glycol – Heat Transfer fluid: Genersys systems are designed to be used with Tyfocor L, a non toxic hygroscopic fluid based on propylene glycol, used in food industries and water purification applications. It contains corrosion inhibitors, protecting the system and heat exchangers. It can be used in concentrations that protect against frost down to -30°C. The corrosion inhibitors also prevent any sludge building up in the heat pipe.

Additional Information

Installation All installations will comply with Council requirements Standards Australia and work cover. Minor Disruption to Traffic & Patrons This will be assessed and reported we will provide the specification at the next stage. Actual Performance Genersys uses the best available software for simulating the solar thermal requirements for heated pools. This software provides a best overall efficiency. The performance of Genersys solar thermal panels has in most cases provided higher solar fractions than simulated. An example of this is the Malta National Football Stadium, actual performance for heating of the pool water and domestic hot water has been reported at near 100% solar fraction (i.e. 0% fossil fuel requirements) since installation. (Appendix 4 letter of reference) The relatively low water temperatures required in a pool (i.e. between 26 degrees and 30 degrees) mean that high collector efficiencies can be achieved. High solar fractions can be expected (especially with indoor pools, where heat losses from the pool are lower than outdoors. This is because collector exit temperatures don’t have to be high in order for energy to be transferred. Most indoor pools have a large roof area - an ideal position for the collectors. The pool acts as the heat sink or thermal store so you don’t have to invest in expensive storage vessels. This means that overall payback periods are relatively short.

Panel Certification

The Genersys panels and systems are made to exact standards and meet ISO, European and OG 100 certification. Operating in 60 countries our panels have to meet precise standards and quality control. Our panels are made of high quality materials and are not to be compared to cheaper manufactured panels, which often use rubber, plastic and other materials that can degrade rapidly over time. Using the limitless energy contained in natural light Genersys offers a non-polluting way of creating energy without creating emissions. Genersys use German engineering to create very high quality, durable, long lasting solar systems which are certified to meet all applicable standards in the European Union from EN 12975 Part 1 & 2 meeting the requirements of ASNZS 2712 together with Solar Keymark and OG 100 certification for the United States of America and Canada.

*For the purposes of this Initial Tender we have designed the system to achieve a Solar Fraction of approximately 80%. Disclaimer The estimates that Genersys will provide for energy contribution by a solar thermal system will be based on a software simulation, which uses historic climate data recorded by local weather stations (some of which in some places may not provide accurate data of the precise locality of the proposed installation) and known factors applicable to Genersys thermal system and the information we have been given by or on behalf of the end user about energy demand and the energy requirements. The design will be specific only to Genersys thermal solar panels and not to any other makes of thermal solar panels. The actual performance of any solar system will vary from year to year and will to some extent depend on factors beyond the control of Genersys.
