Pipe Characteristics 2 Manufactured from austenitic stainless steel, with an expansion limit of >220 N/mm and minimum elongation of 40%. The pipes are pressure tested and specially annealed during manufacture to allow pressing and bending of the pipe, with imperfections removed Pipes are supplied in silicone free six metre lengths with BLUE plastic end caps to prevent ingress of foreign bodies. 1.2. Geberit Mapress Stainless Steel system pipes 1.4301 S31 (BS304) Available in the size range of OD 15mm to OD 108mm. Suitable applications include non-potable water supply systems, fire mains, treated water, hot water heating systems, compressed air, solar systems. 1.2.1. Pipe Characteristics Manufactured from alloyed, chromium nickel stainless steel, with an expansion limit of 2 >220 n/mm and minimum elongation of 40%. The pipes are pressure tested and specially annealed during manufacture to allow pressing and bending of the pipe. Pipes are supplied in silicone free six metre lengths with RED plastic end caps to prevent ingress of foreign bodies. 1.3. Geberit Mapress Stainless Steel pipe fittings Pipe fittings for jointing pipes shall be high-alloyed austenitic, stainless-chromium-nickelmolybdenum steel press fittings, with material number 1.4401 S33 (BS316). There is a leak path on all fittings that allows a fitting to leak if not pressed. A range of individually bagged silicone free fittings are available to ensure the item remains silicone free prior to use. 1.3.1. Seal Rings A range of factory fitted seal rings are available for use with different applications. For further information and approvals refer to the Geberit Supply Systems Installation Guide or contact Geberit Technical Department. 1.3.1.1 CIIR Butyl Rubber - Black The ‘standard’ range of stainless steel fittings are fitted with CIIR black seal-rings suitable for applications including potable water, heating and cooling, and a range of technical gases. The CIIR Black seal is suitable for a maximum operating pressure of 16 Bar and temperatures between -30ºc to 120ºc. Overload temperatures of 150ºc for one hour is permissible on heating systems. Higher pressures may be possible under consultation with Geberit. 1.3.1.2. FKM – Blue The ‘solar and industrial’ range of stainless steel fittings are fitted with FKM blue seal-rings, suitable for applications including but not restricted to – solar systems, compressed air, technical liquids, fuels and oils. Geberit Sales Ltd — Geberit House — Academy Drive — Warwick — Warwickshire — CV34 6QZ Telephone + 44 (0)1926 516 800 — Fax +44 (0)1926 516 815 — [email protected] — www.geberit.co.uk

The FKM blue seal is suitable for a maximum operating pressure of 16 Bar and operating temperatures from -25ºc to 220ºc for solar, and from -20ºc to 180ºc for industrial applications. Higher pressures may be possible under consultation with Geberit. 1.3.1.3. HNBR - Yellow The ‘gas’ range of stainless steel fittings are fitted with HNBR yellow/brown seal rings, suitable for natural and liquefied gas applications ONLY. The HNBR yellow seal ring is suitable for a maximum operating pressure of 5 Bar outside buildings and 1 Bar within buildings and temperatures of -20ºc to 70ºc. 1.3.1.4. FKM – White (Not Factory Fitted) The FKM White range of seal rings is suitable for saturated steam applications. The diameters available are up to 54mm and are available separately to fittings. These seals are suitable for operating temperatures between 5ºC and 155ºC with short term peak temperatures of 170 ºC 1.3.2. Pressing Indicators Geberit Mapress fittings come equipped with a plastic foil encasing the pressing bead. Once the fitting has been pressed using the correct tooling (see section 7.) the foil is removed visibly indicating whether or not the joint is pressed. Each indicator displays the Geberit logo and fitting size. They are colour coded according to the fitting material. In the case of Stainless Steel 1.4401 S33 BS316, the indicator is blue. 1.3.3. Protection Plugs All Geberit Mapress fittings feature a protection plug for each press-fitting end. This protects the supply network from dust and dirt, increasing hygiene and safety. The protection plugs are colour coded to identify application and seal ring. Standard applications (CIIR black) are white, Gas applications (HNBR yellow) are yellow and industrial / solar applications (FKM blue) are anthracite {grey}. FEPM light green seals (available separately) are provided with anthracite {grey} caps. 2. Installation The system shall be installed all in accordance with Geberit’s installation recommendations. 2.1. Cutting and Preparation Pipes shall be cut square and true using tube cutters, a fine toothed hacksaw or low speed dry cutting chop saw. No oils will be used for lubrication of pipe cutting or fitting insertion, only water or liquid soap can be used. Pipe ends must be de-burred internally and externally, prior to insertion with fittings, using the combined inside / outside Geberit Mapress de-burr tool (item 90363) or similar. 2.2. Bending Geberit Mapress Stainless Steel pipes can be bent by hand up to a radius of greater than five times the diameter, and by bending tool up to a radius of greater than three and a half times the diameter. Specialist bending equipment will be required on diameters of 54mm and above; suitability of bending tools should be approved by the manufacturer of the tool. No heat shall be directly applied to the pipe for bending purposes.

2.4. Pressing Tools Pressing shall be made using only the Geberit press-fitting tool with the appropriate jaws and collars (compatibility dependant). Press-fitting tools shall be supplied with certificates stating the tool has been satisfactorily calibrated as per the manufacturer’s recommendations. Certification should be carried out as recommended in the tooling leaflet by approved repair centres. For comprehensive tooling information see Section 7. 2.5. Valve / plant connections Geberit Mapress offer a range of ball, check and stop valves, sizes 12mm to 108mm. Alternative connections to valves and plant shall be made with proprietary BSP / pressfitting components or valve / plant manufacturers’ approved compression ends directly to the pipe. Valve materials of gunmetal, red brass and stainless steel are available. 2.6. 2.7. Expansion Expansion provision must be accounted for in all piping systems, particularly those carrying high temperature media. Consideration must be given to creation of expansion space, installation of expansion compensators and positioning of anchor and sliding points PRIOR to installation. For material constants relating to expansion including different methods of expansion compensation please see Geberit Supply Systems Installation Guide. 2.8. Additives Water additives such as anti-freeze, corrosion inhibitors, softeners, cooling and disinfection agents should be checked for suitability of use with the various seal rings. For the use of such agents the instructions of the manufacturer should always be followed. For more information on water additives tested and approved by Geberit, please contact the Geberit Technical Department directly. 2.9. Corrosion Protection 2.9.1. External Corrosion In areas of high humidity and where moisture will contact the surface of a fitting, a layer of anti-corrosion tape shall be applied after priming and prior to the application of the insulation.
