LAST MEETING: NAVY 40, DELAWARE 17 September 3, 2011 • Annapolis, Md. ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Navy quarterbacks have a history of big games against the University of Delaware. Senior Kriss Proctor added to that legacy as he ran for 176 yards and three touchdowns and passed for another score as the Mids spoiled the season opener for the Blue Hens with a 40-17 victory before a sun-splashed crowd of 34,117 at NavyMarine Corps Stadium. The No. 5 ranked Blue Hens were able to pile up 363 yards of offense but too many missed opportunities proved to be Delaware's undoing. Sophomore All-American running back Andrew Pierce, the 2011 Colonial Athletic Association Co-Player of the Year, led the way for the Hens, rushing for 119 yards and capping the scoring with a one-yard burst with 2:54 left that capped a 78-yard drive. The 100-yard effort was the eighth of Pierce's young career as a Blue Hen. Delaware quarterbacks Trevor Sasek and Tim Donnelly also showed signs of good things to come. Sasek, who started the game after winning a battle with Donnelly during pre-season, completed 9 of 19 passes for 82 yards and scored the Hens' first touchdown on a 21-yard run before leaving the game in the second half with a knee contusion. Donnelly, a junior, hit on 7 of 9 passes for 60 yards and an interception. Proctor, a first-year starter for the Mids after replacing 2010 standout Ricky Dobbs, broke away on a 75-yard scoring

jaunt on just the fourth play of the game and later scored on runs of 27 yards in the third quarter and one-yard early in the final stanza. He also hit Aaron Santiago on a 12-yard scoring toss midway through the final stanza to push the Navy lead to 40-10. Delaware's defense, which lost eight starters and three All-Americans from a unit that led the nation in scoring defense a year ago when it gave up just 12.1 points per game, allowed its highest point total since a 41-7 setback to Colonial Athletic Association foe James Madison in 2008.

LAST TIME OUT: Hens Claim First State Cup Once Again, Roll Past Delaware State for 42-21 Victory NEWARK, Del. (Sept. 7, 2013) -- The First State Cup will remain in the hands of the University of Delaware football team for yet another year. The Blue Hens broke out to a 28point halftime lead and rolled to a 42-21 victory over Delaware State in the annual battle of the state’s only NCAA Division I teams. QB Trent Hurley, who earned the Nate Beasley MVP Award, completed 24 of 31 passes for a career-high 328 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Hens (2-0) to their second straight big victory. Delaware scored 40 or more points in consecutive games for the first time since 2010. The Hens, 2-0 for the third time in the last four years, have now downed the Hornets (0-1) in all five meetings and have averaged over 25 points per victory. Hurley had plenty of help on the way to his big day. Senior wide receiver Rob Jones, who ended his season with an injury in last year’s victory over Delaware State just two games into the campaign, scored three times Saturday as he caught three passes for 43 yards, including scoring strikes of five and 33 yards, and returned a punt 62 yards for a touchdown. The return was the first score off a punt return by a Delaware player since Sidney Haugabrook vs. Navy in 2004.

DELAWARE HEAD COACH

DAVE BROCK A new era of Blue Hen football begins at the University of Delaware in 2013 led by new head coach Dave Brock. Brock, a native of Moorestown, N.J. and a veteran of 22 collegiate seasons as an assistant coach, becomes just the fifth head coach of the Blue Hens since 1940. Brock replaces K.C. Keeler, who led the Blue Hens for the last 11 seasons. “I'm thrilled to welcome Dave Brock to UD,” said University of Delaware President Patrick T. Harker in making the announce on Jan. 18, 2013. “Dave has substantial coaching experience at some highly competitive schools and has nurtured an impressive roster of players. Just as importantly, Dave has a strong reputation for integrity and caring leadership. I think our student-athletes will thrive with him as their coach and mentor. And I know Dave will benefit from working with such a talented and committed group of young men.” Brock, 46, comes to Delaware after serving one season as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach under coach Kyle Flood at Rutgers University. In 2012, Rutgers posted a 9-4 record, won a share of the Big East title, and advance to the Russell Athletic Bowl. Prior to Rutgers, Brock coached at Boston College, Kansas State, North Carolina, Temple, Hofstra, Salisbury State, and Western Connecticut State. “When we started this search process to begin a new chapter in our football history, we received tremendous interest from around the country,” said University of Delaware Director of Athletics and Recreation Services Eric Ziady. “The interest speaks so highly of our University and of our football program’s rich tradition. In the end, it was clear that Dave Brock has the character, the experience, the passion, the recruiting skills, and the leadership qualities that will enable him to lead our program to championships on the field and success off the field.” “The opportunity to coach at a place with such a storied tradition, in the footprint of where I grew up and where I have coached most of my life, is an honor for my family and I am humbled by the opportunity,” said Brock. “The University of Delaware represents excellence in academics and athletics and I want to thank President Harker and Eric [Ziady] for inviting me into the family.” The New Jersey native’s coaching career includes stops at North Carolina, Temple, Hofstra, Kansas State and Boston College. He has been an offensive coordinator for seven of those seasons and has mentored many current NFL standouts, including Hakeem Nicks (New York Giants), Josh Freeman (Tampa Bay Buccaneers), Jordy Nelson (Green

Bay Packers) and Marques Colston (New Orleans Saints). Brock was also instrumental in recruiting quarterback Dave Shinskie, a one-time Delaware recruit who came to BC after a career in professional baseball. Despite being picked to finish last in the ACC's Atlantic Division in preseason media voting, the 2009 Eagles finished with an 8-5 record and came within one win of playing in a third consecutive ACC Championship Game. Brock spent the 2008 season as Kansas State's offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach after coaching the wideouts in 2007. Kansas State ranked 18th nationally in passing (269.6) and 19th in scoring offense (34.9) under Brock's leadership. As offensive coordinator at Kansas State, Brock spearheaded a Wildcat offense that produced the 2008 Big 12 Offensive Newcomer of the Year in wide receiver Brandon Banks and Kansas State's most prolific passer in school history in quarterback Josh Freeman. Banks set a Wildcat junior record with 67 receptions and 1,049 yards last season, while Freeman became Kansas State's career leader in passing attempts, completions, yards, touchdowns and total offense in 2008. In 2007, Brock tutored Kansas State's Jordy Nelson, who was a consensus All-American and Biletnikoff Award finalist, as well as Big 12 Offensive Newcomer of the Year Deon Murphy. Nelson, who became the Wildcats' first-ever offensive consensus All-American, ranked second in the nation in receptions (10.2) and receiving yards per game (133.8) en route to setting 11 Kansas State receiving records. Kansas State, which set school records for passing yards, completions and attempts in a season, also ranked 20th nationally in passing offense (285.4) and 21st in scoring offense (35.2). The Wildcats finished the season with a 3,000-yard passer, a 1,600-yard receiver and a 1,000yard rusher for the first time in school history. Prior to Kansas State, Brock spent two years at North Carolina, where he served as the Tar Heels' assistant head coach/recruiting coordinator and wide receivers coach. In 2005, Jarwarski Pollock became the all-time leading receiver at Carolina with 177 catches. In 2006, Brock coached wide receiver Hakeem Nicks to honorable mention freshman All-America honors by The Sporting News as Nicks set UNC freshman records with 39 receptions for 660 yards and four touchdowns. Before coaching at North Carolina, Brock was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for three seasons at Temple. In 2004, Temple ranked third in the Big East in rushing, generating 173.0 yards on the ground per game. Brock served in various roles during seven seasons at Hofstra from 1995 through 2002, including running backs coach (1995), wide receivers coach/recruiting coordinator (1997-99), offensive coordinator (2000-01) and associate head coach (2002). In 2000, Hofstra finished the year

4-4-4-4 Blue Hen wide receiver Michael Johnson had his second straight 100-yard receiving effort as he caught four passes for 100 yards and started the day’s action with a 55-yard scoring bomb from Hurley just six minutes into the contest. The Hens also got a nine-yard scoring run from Julian Laing and an 18yard scoring strike from Hurley to tight end Nick Boyle in the second half. Despite the loss, Delaware State had 25 first downs to Delaware’s 21, gained just 16 fewer total yards (456-440), and had a nearly 13-minute advantage in time of possession. Hornets quarterback Cory Murphy, who hit on 30 of 45 passes for 302 yards and two touchdowns, threw scoring strikes of four and seven yards to Malik Golson. Wide receiver Milton Williams finished the day with a game-high 10 catches for 112 yards. DSU got its other touchdown with just 2:11 left when backup quarterback Esayah Obado, who had thrown an interception to Delaware’s Travis Hawkins moments earlier, recovered Hawkins’ fumble and returned it 18 yards for a touchdown. Delaware scored on five straight possessions in the first half on the way to a 35-7 lead. The 35 points were the most scored by Delaware in a half since also putting up 35 against Delaware State in the first half of their 2011 matchup that the Hens eventually won 45-0.

LAST TIME OUT: Navy Runs Past Indiana for 42-35 Victory in Season Opener BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (Sept. 7) -- Navy used every option at its disposal Saturday night. Keenan Reynolds rushed for 127 yards and three touchdowns, Darius Staten added another 106 yards on the ground and the Midshipmen ground out a 41-35 victory at Indiana in their season opener -- their first road win over a Big Ten foe since 1979 at Illinois. On a night the Midshipmen (1-0) held an almost two-toone advantage in possession time and rushed for 444 yards, they committed only five penalties, had no turnovers and wound up with only three negative rushing plays -- one of those coming on a kneel-down on the game's final play. They methodically used the clock against Indiana, even

forcing the Hoosiers to waste a precious timeout late in the game as they attempted to milk the clock. Reynolds kept the ball on Navy's throwback triple option 32 times. Geoffrey Whiteside ran nine times for 97 yards, and DeBrandon Sanders carried five times for 68 yards. In all, the Midshipmen ran 70 times, averaging 6.3 yards per carry, and never even bobbled the ball on a pitch. Navy threw just five passes with Reynolds completing two for 71 yards. The Midshipmen opened the game with 29 consecutive runs, churning out 212 yards in roughly 1 1/2 quarters and finished the first half with 255 yards rushing -- just two fewer yards than it had in last year's game against the Hoosiers. They finished with 18 carries of at least 10 yards, and it started quickly as Whiteside ran for 31 yards on Navy's first offensive play and went for 18 two plays later. Eventually, Reynolds scored on at 1-yard TD run to make it 7-0.

5-5-5-5 Jones caught three passes for 43 yards and also returned a kickoff 18 yards during the game. His punt return for a touchdown was the first of his career and the first for a UD player since Sidney Haugabrook returned one against Navy in 2004. In addition to Jones, UAlbany RB Omar Osbourne was named CAA Offensive Player of the Week; Stony Brook DB Reuben Johnson was named Defensive Player of the Week; and William & Mary RB Kendell Anderson was selected as the Rookie of the Week.

HURLEY, GIBSON, JONES EARN FIRST WEEKLY TOUCHDOWN CLUB MVP AWARDS Senior quarterback Trent Hurley, sophomore defensive tackle Karon Gibson, and senior punt returner Rob Jones are the winners of the Blue Hen Touchdown Club Game Most Valuable Player Awards for their efforts in Delaware’s 42-21 victory over Delaware State on Saturday at Delaware Stadium. The three are scheduled to be honored at the weekly Blue Hen Touchdown Club Luncheon this Thursday, Sept. 12, at 12 noon in the Bob Carpenter Center Lounge. Offense – QB Trent Hurley (Jr., Greensburg Central Catholic HS/Connellsville, Pa.) Enjoyed a career day as he complete 24 of 31 passes for 328 yards and four touchdowns. His passing yardage and touchdowns were both career highs for the second-year player. He threw scoring tosses of 55 yards to Michael Johnson, 5 and 33 yards to Rob Jones, and 25 yards to Nick Boyle. Defense – DT Karon Gibson (So., Woodbury HS/Sicklerville, N.J.) - Enjoyed another solid day against the run as Delaware limited Delaware State to just 99 yards on 27 carries (3.7 avg.) on the ground. The Hornets did not have a run longer than 12 yards. Gibson recorded three tackles, including one for loss. Special Teams – PR Rob Jones (Sr., Armwood HS/Tampa, Fla.) - Also the Colonial Athletic Association Special Teams Player of the Week, Jones returned a punt 62 yards fora touchdown in the first half to spark the Hens to the victory. He also had touchdown receptions of 5 and 33 yards and returned a kickoff 18 yards. The punt return for a score was the first of his career and first for a UD player since Sidney Haugabrook scored off a punt return vs. Navy in 2004.

DELAWARE EYING ANOTHER 3-0 START Wins of 51-35 over Jacksonville (Fla.) on Aug. 29 and 42-21 over Delaware State this past Saturday have vaulted Delaware to a 2-0 start for the third straight year, for the third time in the last four years, and for the 6th time in the last 12 seasons. A win over Navy this week would give Delaware a 3-0 start for the second straight year (Hens opened 4-0 on the way to 5-6 mark in 2012), for the third time in four years, and for the sixth time in the last 12 seasons. Delaware’s last 4-0 start came last year and last time the Hens opened up 5-0 came in 2010 when UD went 12-3 on the way to a berth in the NCAA Division I FCS national championship game.

BLUE HENS LOOKING TO BE NEXT FCS SQUAD TO MOVE UP AND GET A VICTORY Delaware will move up a division this week as the Blue Hens, members of the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), move up to take on Navy, an independent member of the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). Early inter-division matchup are common, and already this year several FCS teams have moved up and came away with impressive victories against their FBS counterparts. Through two weeks of the season, FCS teams have posted a record of 9-54 with big wins by Towson over Connecticut (3318), Maine over Massachusetts (24-14), Eastern Illinois over San Diego State (40-19), Northern Iowa over Iowa State (2820), McNeese State over South Florida (53-21), Eastern Washington over No. 25 Oregon State (49-46), and North Dakota State over Kansas State (24-21). Of the 54 losses, 12 have been by 10 points or less. Delaware is 78-64-4 (.552) all-time vs. upper division NCAA opponents but will be looking to snap a three-game losing streak and down an upper division foe for the first time since a 59-52 win at Navy in 2007 when current Baltimore Ravens starting quarterback Joe Flacco led the Blue Hen charge.

DELAWARE OFFENSE ROLLING ALONG IN THE EARLY GOING; HENS RANK IN TOP 10 NATIONALL IN THREE CATEGORIES Delaware’s offense, which struggled last season when it averaged just 26.6 points and 342.0 total yards per game ranking No. 7 and No. 9 respectively in the Colonial Athletic Association, has returned at full force in 2013 for new head coach Dave Brock and offensive coordinator Sean Devine. After two games this season, Delaware’s offense has put up 93 points (46.5 points per game) and 1,067 total yards (533.5). The Hens currently lead the CAA in rushing offense (250.5), total offense (533.5), and scoring offense (46.5) and ranked No. 6 nationally in total offense, No. 7 in scoring offense, and No. 8 in rushing offense.

6-6-6-6 Delaware has scored 40+ points in consecutive games for the first time since the 2010 season and with a 40-point effort this week vs. Navy, would surpass that mark in three straight games for the first time since the 2003 national championship season when the Hens opened the campaign with wins of 41-7 over The Citadel, 44-14 over Richmond, and 49-7 over West Chester.

DELAWARE LEADS NATION IN THIRD DOWN CONVERSION PERCENTAGE The Blue Hens are getting the job done on offense, ranking among the top 10 national leaders in scoring offense (46.5 points per game) and total offense (533.5). Much of that can be attributed to Delaware’s impressive third down conversion percentage. Delaware currently leads all NCAA Division I FCS teams with a .607 success rate on third down, converting on 17 of 28 attempts. The Hens converted 7 of 13 third down situations last week vs. Delaware State and picked up the first down 10 times in 15 attempts vs. Jacksonville on Aug. 29. Montana ranks second with a .600 percentage while Youngstown State (.591), McNeese State (.588) and North Dakota State (.588) round out the top five.

NICE START COACH BROCK A new era of University of Delaware football has begun this year with new head coach Dave Brock, who became just the fifth man since 1940 to hold the post for the Blue Hens. Brock has enjoyed success early as the Hens are currently 2-0 with wins over Jacksonville and Delaware State over the first weeks. With those wins, Brock became just the fifth head coach in UD history win his first two games, joining Nathan Mannakee (1903), Frank Forstburg (1925), Neil Stahley (1934), and College Football Hall of Famer Tubby Raymond (1966). Should the Hens knock off Navy this week, Brock would join Mannakee and Raymond as the only UD coaches to win their first three games out of the gates.

PROTECTING THE QUARTERBACK Delaware was expecting the offensive line to be one of its strengths this fall with all five starters - tackles Erle Ladson and Ben Curtis, guards Bobby Kennedy and JD Dzurko, and center Brandon Heath all returning. So far so good. And Blue Hen quarterback Trent Hurley appreciates it. The Hens are among the national leaders in total offense, rushing offense, and scoring offense and are one of only eight teams in the NCAA FCS who have not allowed a quarterback sacks, joining Central Connecticut State, Colgate, Towson, Stephen F. Austin, Stetson, and McNeese State. Last season, Delaware allowed 30 sacks on the season to rank last in the CAA.

BLUE HENS PUT UP HISTORICAL NUMBERS ON BOTH SIDES IN OPENER Delaware put up some impressive numbers in the seasonopening 51-35 win over Jacksonville Aug. 29, some of them milestones that had not been met in years. • The 611 total yards of offense was the most gained by Delaware since a 620-yard effort vs. Portland State in the 2000 NCAA Tournament • The 611 yards was the 17th highest single game total in school history • The 373 rushing yards was the most by a Delaware team since 2010 when the team had 373 yards vs. Duquesne • Delaware had three rushers surpass the 80-yard mark for the first time since the trio of Leo Hamlett, Kai Hebron, and Pat Williams all rushed for over 100 yards vs. James Madison in 1995 • The –37 yards rushing by Jacksonville was the third lowest total allowed by Delaware in school history (record is –55 vs. C.W. Post in 1971) • The 51 points was the most scored by the Blue Hens on opening day since a 62-21 win over Lehigh in 1993

ANDREW PIERCE, ZACH KERR TO SERVE AS 2013 TEAM CAPTAINS Blue Hen senior defensive lineman Zach Kerr and senior running back Andrew Pierce have been named captains of the 2013 University of Delaware football team. The two were the overwhelming choices by team members, who each had the opportunity to vote for one offensive player and one defensive player. Pierce will serve as captain for the second straight season. Head coach Dave Brock will also select game captains for each game this season and will make the announcement the week prior to each game. Both pre-season All-American candidates, Pierce and Kerr will anchor a team that looks to bounce back from last season’s 5-6 campaign. A three-time All-Colonial Athletic Association selection and a two-time All-American, Pierce has appeared in 35 career games and rushed 747 times for 3,637 yards and 34 touchdowns, good for an average of 4.9 yards per carry and 103.9 yards per game. Kerr was a second team All-CAA selection in 2012, his first with the Blue Hens after transferring from the University of Maryland. Kerr registered 27 tackles, including 15 solo stop, had 4.5 tackles for loss and returned an interception 47 yards for a touchdown vs. William & Mary. 2013 Game Captains: Jacksonville - WR Rob Jones Delaware State - OG Bobby Kennedy

Kicker Sean Baner Still Nearly Perfect BLUE HEN SCRATCHINGS

Hurley Earns Starting Nod at Quarterback • After a hard-fought pre-season battle, junior Trent Hurley was named the starter for the season opener vs. Jacksonville. Hurley, a second-year transfer from Bowling Green who missed spring drills due to an injury, won the battle over senior Trevor Sasek. Hurley was impressive in his 2013 debut, completing 19 of 29 passes for 238 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 27 yards. He registered his fourth career 200+-yard game and surpassed 2,000 yards passing for his career with 2,202. Hurley was even better last week vs. Delaware State as he completed 24 of 31 passes for a career-high 328 yards and four touchdowns. Sasek, who started at quarterback the last time the Hens traveled to Navy in 2009, also played in the wins over Jacksonville and Delaware State, entering the game in the final quarter of both games. Hurley started 10 games a year ago and threw for 1,964 yards and 10 touchdowns while rushing for 160 yards and four scores. Sasek, who has battled injuries for much of his career, has played in 13 career games with three starts and threw for 429 yards and a touchdown. Junior Justin Burns and freshman Kyle Yocum will give additional support to the unit.

• Delaware senior kicker Sean Baner is also chasing his share of milestones during his final collegiate season. The 2011 first team All-CAA kicker converted 18 of 23 field goals and 33 of 33 extra points in 2012 on his way to a team-high 87 points. Baner kicked a 20-yard field goal in his 2013 debut vs. Jacksonville Aug. 29 but he missed on his sixth extra point attempt, ending his own school record of 67 straight consecutive makes dating back to 2010. His 34 career field goals - fifth among active NCAA kickers - is just seven shy of the Delaware record of 41 by Jon Striefsky in 2005-09. He is 74 for 75 all-time in extra point attempts. He is also 34 for 45 all-time in field goals (.755) to rank No. 10 among active FCS kickers.

WR Rob Jones Also Climbing Lists • Delaware fifth-year senior WR Rob Jones, who missed all but two games last season with an injury, is also nearing some milestones this fall. He enters the Navy game with career numbers of 90 receptions for 1,187 yards and 10 touchdowns. He needs 10 catches to become just the 15th player in UD history to reach the 100-reception mark and he currently ranks No. 22 all-time at UD in yardage. He has been outstanding in the early going this year, catching 8 passes for 108 yards (13.5 avg.) and two touchdowns.

Andrew Pierce Nearing Milestones • Blue Hen All-American and Walter Payton Award candidate Andrew Pierce will be chasing several big milestones this fall. The two-time All-American and a member of the Walter Payton Award Watch List, is among the nation’s top returning ball-carriers. He has rushed for 3,793yards for his career and needs just 232 yards to crack the CAA all-time Top 10, 571 yards to move into No. 2 on the all-time UD rushing list with Omar Cuff (4,364 yards in 2004-07), and 794 yards to tie for the all-time UD mark of 4,587 yards by Daryl Brown in 1991-94. Pierce ran for 101 yards on 16 carries in the win over Jacksonville Aug. 29, marking his 19th career 100-yard effort. Only Brown (22) and Cuff (21) have recorded more 100-yard rushing games in UD history. He is among the active career leaders in the NCAA for several categories, including: Carries: 776 (2nd) Yards: 3,793 (3rd) Yards Per Game: 102.5 (7th) Rushing Touchdowns: 35 (5th) All-Purpose: 4,264 (5th) DELAWARE ALL-TIME LEADING RUSHERS 4,587 - Daryl Brown (1991-94) 4,364 - Omar Cuff (2004-07) 3,793 - Andrew Pierce (20-10-Present) 3,157 - Chuck Hall (1968-70) 2,760 - Vern Roberts (1972-74)

Freshman WR Diante Cherry Out with Injury • Delaware freshman wide receiver Diante Cherry, who enjoyed outstanding pre-season and had moved up to No. 2 on the depth chart, will miss the entire season due to a lower extremity injury suffered in practice the week prior to the Jacksonville game.

DELAWARE TOUGH IN HOME OPENERS Delaware, which defeated Jacksonville 51-35 in the season opener Aug. 29, is now 50-11 (.820) in home openers since Delaware Stadium opened in 1952 with the Blue Hens having won nine straight and 22 of their last 24 home debuts in these friendly confines.

HOME SWEET HOME Delaware boasts one of the top home-field advantages in all of college football. Not only do Blue Hen fans pack Delaware Stadium each week - helping UD become the only NCAA FCS team in the nation to average 20,000 or more fans per regular season home game 12 seasons between 19992010 - they see consistently winning football. Delaware has won 32 of its last 43 home games and is 289-91-4 (.762) in 60 seasons all-time at Delaware Stadium, including a mark of 20-5 with eighth straight wins in the postseason. Delaware currently ranks No. 6 in the nation at the FCS level in average home attendance with a mark of 19,218. The Blue Hens trail only Montana (26,293), CAA foe James Madison (23,541), Jackson State (22,003), Montana State (21,007), and Alabama A&M (20,703).

DELAWARE SCORING STREAK REACHES 210... AND COUNTING; HOME STREAK AT 199 Delaware extended its streak of scoring a point to 210 straight games in the 42-21 win over Delaware State last Saturday. Delaware has not been shutout in any game since falling at Villanova 27-0 back on Sept. 14, 1996 and have not been held off the scoreboard at home at Delaware Stadium since suffering a 24-0 setback to Holy Cross way back on Nov. 12, 1983 (a streak of 199 straight games). The current scoring streak breaks the previous UD record of consecutive game scoring a point of 154 set in 1983-98. Delaware’s streak of consecutive road games scoring a point now stands at 94 games. During the streak, the Hens have scored 30 or more points 91 times (41 percent of the time).

DELAWARE WELL REPRESENTED IN THE NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE Seven former University of Delaware football studentathletes are on National Football League active rosters this fall. The group includes veterans in defensive back Mike Adams (Denver), quarterback Joe Flacco (Baltimore), defensive end Ronald Talley (Arizona), defensive back Anthony Walters (Chicago), quarterback Pat Devlin (Miami), and offensive linemen Gino Gradkowski (Baltimore) and rookie linebacker Paul Worrilow (Atlanta). Another Blue Hen product, cornerback Marcus Burley (Jacksonville), was released during the final cuts Flacco, now in his sixth professional season, was named Super Bowl Most Valuable Player last February when he and Gradkowski led the Ravens to a Super Bowl victory over San Francisco. Adams will enter his 10th NFL season this fall, and his second with the Broncos, who he helped lead to the AFC semifinals in 2012. In addition, former Blue Hen players Bob Slowik (Washington) and Matt Nagy (Kansas City) are serving as NFL assistant coach.

BLUE HENS PICKED NO. 6 IN PRE-SEASON CAA POLL; KENNEDY, KERR EARN ALL-CAA PRE-SEASON HONORS The University of Delaware football team found itself squarely in the middle of the pack as the Colonial Athletic Association announced its pre-season order of finish at the annual CAA Football Media Day at M&T Bank Stadium on July 24. The Blue Hens, who begin a new era this fall under firstyear head coach Dave Brock, were selected as the No. 6 spot in vote of the 11 league head coaches and sports information directors. And while the goal is to end the season at No. 1, Brock certainly understands the Blue Hens’ current rank. “We look at this as a snapshot of what people think about Delaware football today,” said Brock, who welcomes back 26 players with starting experience, including 14 on the offensive side of the ball, from a team that went 5-6 a year ago under head coach K.C. Keeler. “Ultimately people will worry about

8-8-8-8 what the final poll looks like after the season is over. That is what our job will be and we are going to go out with a chip on our shoulder and compete. Our motivation from a pre-season poll isn’t going to drive us. We understand what it is and we understand why it is.” In addition to the order of finish, two Delaware standouts - senior offensive guard Bobby Kennedy and senior defensive tackles Zach Kerr - were named to the pre-season AllCAA team. Towson running back Terrance West was named the preseason Offensive Player of the Year while James Madison linebacker Stephon Robertson was picked as the Defensive Player of the Year. Defending CAA champion Villanova was selected as the pre-season favorite and earned 10 of the 22 first place votes. No. 2 Towson and No. 3 New Hampshire each earned three first place votes, No. 4 Richmond got one first place vote, and No. 5 James Madison received four first place votes. Delaware was picked No. 6 followed by CAA newcomer Stony Brook, Maine, William & Mary, newcomer Albany, and Rhode Island. Kennedy, a native of Newark, Del. and a star at nearby Caravel Academy, returns to anchor an offensive line that returns all five starters this season. He earned third team AllCAA honors a year ago. Kerr, a second-year transfer from Maryland and a member of several pre-season All-American lists, earned second team All-CAA laurels a year ago and anchors a defensive line unit that ranked No. 2 in the CAA in run defense a year ago and returns nine players with starting experience. Colonial Athletic Association Pre-Season Coaches/SID Poll: 1. Villanova (10 first place votes) 2. Towson (3) 3. New Hampshire (3) 4. Richmond (1) 5. James Madison (4) 6. DELAWARE 7. Stony Brook 8. BLUE HEN HEAD COACHING DEBUTS When Dave Brock made his debut as head coach at the University of Delaware last week vs. Jacksonville, he became just the fifth coach since 1940 to head the sidelines for the Blue Hens. Below are some of the recent debuts for Delaware head coaches. Bill Murray - lost at Hampden Sydney, 7-0 Oct. 5, 1940. A second quarter scoring pass from Walt Sprye to Syd Weed clinched the win for H-S. David Nelson - defeated Lehigh 7-0 under the lights of Wilmington (DE) Ball Park Sept. 22, 1951. The Hens won despite completing just one pass and being outgained 254-167 in total yards. A first quarter touchdown run by Joe Scarcia was all the Hens needed to post the victory. Tubby Raymond - defeated Hofstra 35-13 Sept. 24, 1966 before 10,140 fans at Delaware Stadium. Delaware rushed for 255 total yards and held the Dutchmen to just 65 total yards and eight first downs. Quarterback Frank Linzenbold threw for 118 yards and rushed for 136 yards while Stu Green rushed for 79 yards and three touchdowns to lead the way. K.C. Keeler - defeated No. 22 Georgia Southern 22-19 on Aug. 29, 2002 before 19,056 fans at Delaware Stadium. Antawn Jenkins scored two touchdowns, including a 45-yard scamper in the opening five minutes of the game. QB Andy Hall completed 7 of 14 passes for 99 yards and rushed for 88 yards and one score. Dave Brock - defeated Jacksonville 51-35 on Aug. 29, 2013 before 19,120 fans at Delaware Stadium. Delaware racked up 611 total yards of offense, including 373 on the ground, and held the Dolphins to -37 yards rushing. Delaware’s Andre Pierce ran for 101 yards and a touchdown and Julian Laing picked up 97 yards and two scores.

REUNION TIME The University of Delaware will host two very special reunions this season to celebrate the accomplishments of two memorable teams. On Sept. 28, Delaware will welcomes the members of the 2003 team on their 10th anniversary of capturing the NCAA IAA national title. That team, led by then head coach K.C. Keeler, went 15-1 and stormed through the post-season,

The walk will begin approximately two and one-half hours before kickoff. Fans are also invited to stick around after each home game this season and join the Blue Hens as they head to the southwest corner of the field to sing the alma mater along with the Delaware Marching Band. Also new this year, a member of the team who hails from the State of Delaware will lead the Blue Hens out of the tunnel waving the state flag. He will be accompanied by a teammate carrying the U.S. flag. 2013 Flag Bearers (State/U.S.) Jacksonville - Bobby Kennedy / Trevor Sasek Delaware State - Justin Glenn / Jake Giusti

UNIVERSITY OF DELAWARE BRANDING INITIATIVES SET TO PREMIER THIS FALL State pride will be at the forefront of several new athletics branding initiatives announced by University of Delaware Director of Athletics and Recreation Services Eric Ziady earlier this summer. Among the initiatives set for this season include displaying a patch of the State of Delaware on the game uniforms of all 21 intercollegiate teams; painting the outline of the state on the turf at the 50yard line at Delaware Stadium; a Blue Hen State of Mind theme for the upcoming season; and having members of the Blue Hen football team enter the field at home games displaying both the Delaware State flag and the United States flag. “The University of Delaware is proud to be the flagship University for our state and we are excited to announce these branding initiatives as they pertain to Blue Hens Athletics,” said Ziady, who will begins his second year in the post this November. “Blue Hens athletics holds such a special place in the history of this state and the pride and loyalty that our fans show is second to none. Delaware Athletics wants to take every opportunity to show how proud we are to be a part of the fabric of this great state.” In addition to the Delaware State patch, the football program’s uniforms will now also include six small stars representing the six national championships won by the program. “While the state patch represents all our teams’ commitment to represent the state of Delaware, the six stars on the football jerseys will be a direct representation of the rich history and tradition that our football program has built through the years, and will be a constant reminder to our football student athletes as to the goal of our program going forward,” said Ziady. Another theme throughout the coming season will be the Blue Hen State of Mind branding which is intended to celebrate being Blue Hens in this very special state. A special logo has been developed and the mark will be used extensively in both print and online throughout the year and across all 21 Blue

Hens intercollegiate athletics teams. The "Blue Hen State of Mind" mentality will encompass what it means to be part of the Blue Hen athletics family while representing the state of Delaware. Whether in the community, in the classroom, or on the playing field, the characteristic of teamwork, meeting challenges, and aspiring to a tradition of excellence will be highlighted. In addition, beginning this year, members of the Delaware football team will now be bussed to the UD athletics complex and will take part in a pregame march down Stadium Drive prior to the game led by the Delaware Band, Cheerleaders, and Spirit Groups, greeting fans and tailgaters and building excitement for the game on their way to the lockerroom. Delaware football will once again host its annual Delaware Day as part of the Blue Hens’ game vs. in-state opponent Delaware State on Sept. 7 at Delaware Stadium at 3:30 p.m UD will once again reach out to state employees, including educators, as well as first responders and others to invite them through various offers to be a part of a day celebrating all things Delaware. Blue Hen Athletics will continue to visit all areas of the state and recently took a large contingent to the Delaware State Fair in Harrington for the second straight summer. Student-athletes and coaches took in the sights, visited the midway, and interacted with fans and fair-goers. Back in April, first-year Delaware football head coach Dave Brock and his team visited Milford High School and took part in a scrimmage, interacted with fans, and took part in a youth skills clinic. Future trips to the southern part of the state are also planned.

NEW FACILITY PROJECTS UNDERWAY Five facility improvement projects that will enhance the experience of thousands of University of Delaware students for years to come are currently underway or nearing completion. The projects include a major renovation of the Bob Hannah Baseball Stadium, including the installation of an artificial turf surface and a new scoreboard, dugouts, bullpens, and batting cages; the installation of a new all-weather outdoor track in the Delaware Mini-Stadium; the transformation of the Delaware Field House into a first-class indoor practice facility with an artificial turf surface; and the total resurfacing of two natural grass soccer practice fields that are also used for youth camps. The soccer practice fields have been completed, the outdoor track project is nearing completion, and the Bob Hannah Stadium and Delaware Field House projects are underway and set to be completed this fall. In addition to those four new projects, the grand opening of the 45,000-square-foot expansion to the Carpenter Sports Building, UD’s primary recreation facility for students and staff, was held on Monday morning, Aug. 26. The three-story expansion includes new workout areas, group exercise rooms, offices, a student lounge, and an outdoor courtyard.

A BLUE HEN IN THE WHITE HOUSE...AND AT DELAWARE STADIUM When U.S. President Barack Obama and running mate, former Delaware Senator Joe Biden, won the 2008 presidential election, it was big news. And even bigger news for the citizens of Delaware and those affiliated with UD. In November, 2012, Obama and Biden were elected for another four-year term to lead the country. A 1965 graduate of the University of Delaware with degrees in history and political science, Biden played on the Blue Hen freshman football team in 1961 under head coach Scotty Duncan but did not play varsity football after that. Biden, a member of the UD Wall of Fame and an ardent

Delaware football fan, considered himself “a half-baked halfback” during his brief UD football career. Biden made his first visit to Delaware Stadium as VicePresident on Saturday, Oct. 9, 2009 as he attended the Maine game and sat with UD President Patrick Harker and current New Jersey Governor Chris Christie (also a UD graduate) throughout the entire contest. He made another visit to Delaware Stadium in 2010 when he attended Delaware’s 16-3 NCAA quarterfinal win over New Hampshire on Dec. 10. He also attended the Hens’ 2010 national championship game in Frisco, Tex. with Christie and Delaware Gov. Jack Markell. Biden met with then head coach K.C. Keeler and members of the team on Sept. 19, 2008 when Biden’s plane was parked on the same tarmac as the Delaware charter at New Castle County (Del.) prior to its trip to Furman. Biden later made an appearance at the Blue Hens’ game vs. Maine at Delaware Stadium on Oct. 11, 2008.

SHAMELESS SELF PROMOTION Delaware Assistant AD/Media Relations Scott Selheimer will cover his 264th straight UD football game this week vs. Navy. He has staffed every game - home and away - since the 1992 season opener vs. Massachusetts. The streak includes 28 NCAA playoff games and three national championship contests.

2013 GAME BY GAME RECAPS #rv DELAWARE ........................................................51 Jacksonville (Fla.) ....................................................35 August 29, 2013 • Delaware Stadium (19,120) NEWARK, Del. -- The Dave Brock Era at the University of Delaware got off to a roaring start as the Blue Hens scored 24 unanswered points to overcome an early two-touchdown deficit and cruised to a 51-35 victory over Jacksonville in the college football opener for both teams. Brock, just the fifth head coach at Delaware since the 1940’s, saw his team start out rocky but finish strong as the Blue Hens (1-0) won their home opener for the ninth straight season and for the 22nd time in the last 24 years. Delaware’s aggressive attack piled up a whopping 611 yards of total offense - the highest for a UD team since gaining 620 in a 30-17 NCAA playoff win over Portland State in 2000 - while the defense held the Dolphins (0-1) to just 224 total yards and negative 37 yards rushing, the third lowest total allowed in UD history. Jacksonville, which jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter, scored three of its touchdowns either directly off turnovers or from short distances several plays later. QB Trent Hurley led the UD offense as he completed 19 of 29 passes for 238 yards and a touchdown while senior All-American Andrew Pierce recorded his 19th career 100-yard rushing effort with 101 yards and a score. Julian Laing added 97 yards and two touchdowns, Jalen Randolph added 87 yards and scored once in his collegiate debut, and Michael Johnson caught seven passes for 104 yards and also scored a rushing touchdowns. Defensively, Delaware had eight tackles for loss and forced four fumbles, including one with 3:31 left that sophomore linebacker Jeff Williams picked up and rambled 24 yards to cap the night’s scoring. Jacksonville jumped out to a 14-0-lead in the first quarter, taking advantage of Delaware fumbles on both a punt return and kickoff return. But the Hens answered quickly, scoring 24 unanswered points on short scoring runs from Pierce, Laing, and Randolph and a 20-yard field goal by Sean Baner to go up 38-21 early in the final stanza. #rv DELAWARE ........................................................42 Delaware State ........................................................21 September 7, 2013 • Delaware Stadium (19,316) NEWARK, Del. -- The First State Cup will remain in the hands of the University of Delaware football team for yet another year. The Blue Hens broke out to a 28-point halftime lead and rolled to a 42-21 victory over Delaware State in the annual battle of the state’s only NCAA Division I teams. Blue Hen wide receiver Michael Johnson had his second straight 100-yard receiving effort as he caught four passes for 100 yards and started the day’s action with a 55-yard scoring bomb from Hurley just six minutes into the contest. The Hens also got a nine-yard scoring run from Julian Laing and an 18-yard scoring strike from Hurley to tight end Nick Boyle in the second half.
