SORBACT® A NATURAL METHOD FOR WOUND MANAGEMENT INSTANT AND SELECTIVE BINDING OF HYDROPHOBIC MICROORGANISMS The Sorbact® method is based upon the natural physical forces that make two hydrophobic (water-repellent) particles bind together when in contact utilizing the binding force of surrounding water molecules. As opposed to commonly used antimicrobial dressings, Sorbact® releases no chemical agents into the wound. The unique, proprietary green surface of Sorbact® selectively binds hydrophobic microorganisms. Common pathogenic microorganisms are hydrophobic and bind to the Sorbact® dressing. These are removed from the wound each time the dressing is changed.1 The natural binding and removal of microorganisms implies that no cell debris is left in the wound. Within 15–30 seconds of application, the microorganisms bind to Sorbact®.1 Although the effect is instant the binding of microorganisms continues until the Sorbact® dressing is removed.

Using the principle of hydrophobic interaction to bind and remove wound bacteria. “A hydrophobic dressing is a non-allergic, non-toxic alternative for reducing the microbial load of open wounds without enhancing nosocomial spread, and can reduce the use of antibiotics. Hydrophobic microorganisms bind to the dressing, preferably in a humid environment, and are removed with it. They multiply to quite a low extent when absorbed in the dressing, and may not produce extracellular toxins and enzymes. Mechanisms of resistance to hydrophobic interaction have not been described.” 1 Ljungh Å et al. Journal of Wound Care 2006; 15(4):175–80.

SORBACT® FOR FUNGAL INFECTIONS Fungal infections are now amongst the most common skin diseases and can affect anyone – from babies to the elderly. The symptoms include severe redness, flaking, itching and even blisters in the infected area. The most common treatment strategy is either topical or systemic pharmaceuticals, but these have had varying success rates. These drugs can also lead to adverse effects such as toxicity, allergy, and risk development of resistance. 2 Candida albicans is a yeast fungus that is naturally occuring on the skin but when an imbalance occurs can cause fungal infections. The ability of Sorbact® to bind Candida albicans and other pathogenic microorganisms is well documented.1 The Sorbact® method is a natural way to reduce the presence of common fungi present in the skin and thereby promote the body’s own ability to control the infection.

SORBACT® EASY TO USE & SAFE Sorbact® is safe and easy to use for patients and health professionals. As opposed to traditional treatments with antifungal creams and ointments, Sorbact® is a comfortable alternative without leaving greasy and sticky residues, which if left in the treatment area causes increased irritation. The fact that Sorbact® does not contain any antifungal substances ensures no surrouding tissue is damaged. In addition Sorbact® does not contribute to the increasing worldwide problem of bacterial and fungal resistance.T

SORBACT® CLINICAL EVIDENCE Clinical experience and reports have demonstrated the safe, efficient and positive use of Sorbact® on fungal skin infections.3,4 A case study on interdigital fungal infections in diabetc patients showed that the fungal infection healed or improved in 75% of the patients over ten days when using Sorbact®.3 Furthermore, a field study using Sorbact® in skin folds demonstrated improvement or healing in more than 85% of the patients in three to ten days without any adverse reactions.4 The studies confirme that Sorbact® through binding of microbes enables healing of fungal infections.

SORBACT® INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

Clean the infected area. Do not use any greasy ointments or creams in combination with Sorbact®. Select an appropriate dressing size to be able to cover the infected area. Apply Sorbact® in direct contact with the infected area. Use a skin friendly adhesive for fixation. The adhesive should be applied outside the infected area. Also a bra or underpants can be used for fixation. 6. Change dressings once daily in conjunction with inspection. Continue to use Sorbact® for 2-3 days after the symptoms have resolved to avoid recurrence.
