Dynamic Earth

astronomy & space science

Dynamic Earth explores the inner workings of Earth’s climate system. With visualizations based on satellite monitoring data and advanced supercomputer simulations, this cutting-edge production follows a trail of energy that flows from the Sun into the interlocking systems that shape our climate: the atmosphere, oceans, and the biosphere. Audiences will ride along on swirling ocean and wind currents, dive into the heart of a monster hurricane, come face-to-face with sharks and gigantic whales, and fly into roiling volcanoes. Dynamic Earth is the result of a two-year long collaboration between Spitz Creative Media, the Advanced Visualization Lab at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) at the University of Illinois, NASA’s Scientific Visualization Studio, and Thomas Lucas Productions, Inc. Produced in association with the Denver Museum of Nature & Science and NASA Earth Science. Narrated by Academy-Award nominated actor Liam Neeson. Dynamic Earth explores concepts and terms essential to understanding the climate: • The relationship of Earth and the Sun • Life and the carbon cycle • Plate tectonics and its role in the carbon cycle • Comparision with Venus • Perspective on climate change

The BEST in fulldome programming for audiences of all ages

supervolcanoes The scene was 70,000 years ago, on the island of Sumatra. A chain of events that began as a small volcanic eruptions would build, until a vast regional plateau literally collapsed in on itself. Toba was one of the largest volcanic eruptions known in Earth’s long history, but it was by no means the largest. A far larger type of eruption draws upon immense reservoirs of magma that rise up toward the surface. One of them, in what’s now Russian Siberia, sent lava flowing over an area the size of the United States. By the time it was over, up to 90% of all life on Earth had vanished.

earth science

Supervolcanoes is an immersive planetarium show that looks back at rare classes of eruptions that have marshaled the energy that lurks, like a sleeping dragon, beneath the surface of planet Earth. The program moves beyond Earth to explore the impact of giant volcanic eruptions around our solar system.

Audiences will fly down to Neptune’s frigid moon Triton, and the ultimate volcanic world: Jupiter’s moon Io. On a visit to a legendary North American hot spot, Yellowstone National Park, the film asks: can a supervolcano erupt in our time? Narrated by Kevin Bacon. Graphic Films and National Geographic.

An entertaining and educational experience that tells about the fascinating world of trees. The story is presented by a ladybug called Dolores and a firefly called Mike. Moonwalk

Bella Gaia

Beautiful Moonwalk weaves together literature and science with iconic songs and imagery into a grand audiovisual hyperlink, characterizing our placid heavenly neighbor as a living, scintillating force. Stemming from the countless photos which comprise lunar atlases, the Moon shatters into pieces, and then rebuilds itself. It evolves from its familiar pregnant blackness into a lambent, jittering hive of voices and sounds. The film reaches beyond the idealized childhood daydreams of the heavens, past the familiar Apollo footage, and into the tender roots of culture. A rare film combining art and science, Moonwalk reminds us of the Moon’s ubiquity, compelling us to reconstruct our own personal history of the Moon. Sound Design by Helga Pogatschar. Clea T. Waite.

Inspired by astronauts who spoke of the life changing power of seeing the Earth from space, filmmaker and composer Kenji Williams created BELLA GAIA to simulate this transformation called the Overview Effect. Working closely with NASA’s scientific visualization studio, the award winning BELLA GAIA successfully simulates space flight, taking the audience on a spectacular journey around planet Earth.

A Living Atlas journey of our planet, BELLA GAIA creates a direct experience and connection with the creative forces of Earth with fulldome NASA scientific visualizations, guided by the ecstatic music of Kenji Williams.
