FTP Access Guide for Clients  NEW! Global Raymac Surveys has login & password protected areas and also a public portion where no login is required for accessibility ease for specific files for staff and clients. Using the address ftp.globalraymac.ca without a username or password by default will take the user to the public portion of the site using any of the methods listed in Section 1. This document is available on the public portion of the website as well.

1 WAY’S TO ACCESS FTP There are several ways to access the Global Raymac Surveys (GRS) FTP site. 1. Using an FTP Client specifically designed for FTP This is the recommended method to access any FTP site as it works quick and allows users to resume a download if a connection drops. The basics are a left and right window, one side shows your computer similar to Windows Explorer and the other side showing the folder structure of the FTP. The most recommended client software is Filezilla, an open source and trusted client. Download at https://filezilla-project.org/download.php?show_all=1 If the download link is broken, Google FileZilla. 2. Using an Internet Browser This is a common way to access FTP sites without the installation of any client software. There are no options, any disconnects or lockups during a download will need to start over from the beginning and can be lost time if the file was large. 3. Using Windows Explorer This is the least desirable way to access the FTP but works similar to how an internet browser accesses FTP sites.

2 PUBLIC VS CREDENTIAL ACCESS Simply using the address ftp.globalraymac.ca without a username or password (Anonymous with FTP clients) will take you to the public portion of the FTP. The files here are generic files to help serve clients and staff quickly without having to remember credentials. The public portion may or may not remain accessible in the future and there will be no communication if that changes. Image below shows the FTP as Public Anonymous access in a browser (FireFox). Other browsers will look similar to this as well.

For all staff and GRS Clients – a unique username and password is provided which locks to a specific directory where you can access files specific to the credential. By default GRS allows files and directories to be copied (to and from), renamed and appended. Deletions are denied and restricted unless specifically requested by the Project Manager. Execution is strictly prohibited.

4 CONNECTING USING INTERNET BROWSERS Using Internet Browsers just enter ftp.globalraymac.ca in the address bar to connect to the site as Anonymous, no prompts for password will appear and you will be taken to the Public FTP site. No Client specific files will be found here. *when the public portion is turned off you will automatically get a prompt to enter credentials from the browser To connect using a username/password combination to access client specific folders you must enter details exactly this way:

ftp://username:[email protected] As an example. You were provided with the username Gas and password Ty8384. You would enter in the address bar as:

ftp://Gas:[email protected] A colon separates the username and password! Clicking on folders links will take you to the folders and clicking on files will present you with Save dialogs, same as when you click to download files on webpages.

5 CONNECTING USING WINDOWS EXPLORER The steps to connect with Windows Explorer are identical to steps to connect with Internet Browsers (Section 4 above). The only difference here is that you use the FTP the same way you would browsing files on your computer. Just copy and paste files or drag and drop.
