Day 4 · Perth - Dunkeld Cathedral - Pitlochry

Our journey today takes us to Perth, where we visit Scone Palace. Fifteen hundred years ago this was the capital of the Pictish kingdom and the centre of the ancient Celtic church. Scottish kings were crowned here as early as AD 900 and it was immortalized in Shakespeare's Macbeth. Our next stop is a visit to Dunkeld Catedral, which is a working church and museum. Next we travel on to Pitlochry, where we make a stop at Explorers Garden to wander through this wonderful woodland garden which celebrates the adventures and results of Scottish Plant Hunters. Then it's off to our hotel for the night.

Day 6 · Culloden Moor - Clava Cairns - Nairn

This morning we will visit Culloden Battlefield, where Bonnie Prince Charlie and the Jacobite army were finally defeated in 1746. We take in the exciting new Culloden Battlefield visitor centre and exhibition. Then we travel on to Clava Cairn, a wellpreserved Bronze Age cemetery complex of passage graves dating back over 4000 years. Our next stop is the magnificent stronghold of Cawdor Castle, famous for its links to Shakespeare's play, "Macbeth", written in 1606. We then make a short photo stop in the picturesque fishing village of Nairn before we return to Inverness and have a short panoramic tour of the city, followed by some free time to explore. SATURDAY, MAY 28 | BD

Day 7 · Loch Ness - Glencoe - Oban

We have a very exciting day ahead as we drive to Loch Ness for a cruise on this famous loch - better have our cameras ready to snap the elusive Nessie - and then a visit to Urquhart Castle. Then we travel on to Fort William - situated at the foot of Ben Nevis - Britain's highest mountain at 1344 metres. After a break for lunch we stop at the dramatic valley of Glencoe, whose name in Gaelic means the "vale of tears". This was the scene of the tragic massacre of the Clan MacDonald by their long-time enemy, the Campbell's, in 1692. Our final destination is Oban where we will spend two nights.

SUNDAY, MAY 29 | BD

Day 8 · Mull and Iona

We have an early start today to take the ferry across the Firth of Lorne to the Isle of Mull. Mull’s wild countryside was the setting for many of the adventures in Robert Louis Stevenson's novel, "Kidnapped". Following the southern roads to Fionnphort we board an early passenger boat to the tiny island of Iona, where St Columba founded a monastery in 563. Often attacked by Norse raiders, this monastery was replaced in 1203 but later fell into decay. Because we are visiting Iona on a Sunday, we will enjoy a service in the Cathedral. The cloister has been stunningly restored, complete with wonderful carvings and the large bronze sculpture "The Descent of the Spirit". For centuries Iona was the burial place for Scottish kings and chiefs. After spending the full day on Iona, we retrace our steps back to Oban. MONDAY, MAY 30 | BD

Day 9 · Trossachs - Loch Lomond

Our journey today takes us through one of Scotland's most beautifully scenic areas, The Trossachs region. Known as 'The Highlands in Miniature', it is only five miles wide with a diverse variety of landscapes - rugged mountains, streams, shining lochs, moorland and glens which inspired the novelist Sir Walter Scott. First we will visit the Scottish Wool Centre in Aberfoyle, where there is much to see and do, and then we embark on a short but scenic cruise on Loch Lomond. We then continue on to our hotel in Glasgow. TUESDAY, MAY 31 | BD

Day 10 · Glasgow City Tour

Our exploration of Glasgow today starts with a visit to the 800 year old St. Mungo's Cathedral - also known as the High Kirk of Glasgow - it is the only medieval cathedral on the Scottish mainland to have survived the Protestant Reformation of 1560 virtually intact. Next we visit the Kelvingrove Museum, which houses one of Europe's great art collections and is one of the most visited museums in the United Kingdom outside of London. Close by, we also wander the Riverside Transportation Museum to see its

wonderful displays, including the Tall Ship moored outside. The rest of the day is free to wander on our own, or just relax. WEDNESDAY, JUNE 1 | BD

Day 11 · Ayr - Culzean Castle - New Lanark

This morning we are off to "Burns" country. We visit Ayr and the church where Robbie Burns was baptized as well as the two bridges the poet immortalized in "Twa Brigs". Heading south we come to Alloway, where Burns was born and where we will see the Burns’ cottage and the Burns’ Monument. Then we visit Culzean, a delightful castle designed by Robert Adam and surrounded by a beautiful park. We then continue on to New Lanark, a UNESCO World Heritage Site (WHS), where in the late 1700's, Robert Owen harnessed the Falls of Clyde to power four great linen mills. He also built adequate housing for his workers, provided them with medical support, classes for the children, and a nursery to relieve mothers. This World Heritage Site stands as a testament to the man who would not employ children, and said "Women are not to be exploited". We will tour this site before checking into our hotel.

Chapel has come to fame as a result of "The Da Vinci Code", a novel written by Dan Brown. We then continue into Edinburgh where we have a chance to take the Mary King's Close Ghost Walk, which is buried deep beneath Edinburgh’s Royal Mile. The city’s deepest secret; a warren of hidden streets that has remained frozen in time since the 17th Century. Our day will be topped off with a Scottish Evening complete with Highland dancers, bagpipes and the Ceremony of the Haggis. SATURDAY, JUNE 4 | BD

Day 14 · Edinburgh City Tour.

This morning we have a sightseeing tour of Scotland's capital city. We see the 16th century "Old Town" (WHS), from the Grassmarket where criminals were hanged in the olden days - to the cobbled High Street. The Royal Mile, extending from the hilltop castle to the Palace of Holyrood house (official Scottish residence of Queen Elizabeth II) is home to many important buildings. Our tour includes visits to mighty Edinburgh Castle and St. Giles Cathedral with its exquisite Thistle Chapel, centre of the Reformation during the ministry of John Knox. The afternoon is free for us to explore Edinburgh on our own. Tonight we gather to toast the THURSDAY, JUNE 2 | BD success of the tour at our farewell Day 12 · Melrose - Abbotsford dinner. - Jedburgh

We first travel to Melrose Abbey, founded by King David I in 1136, as the first Cistercian monastery in Scotland. Next we visit Abbotsford, the home of Sir Walter Scott; and one of Scotland's most fascinating places. Created almost 200 years ago on the banks of the River Tweed. Then it's on to Jedburgh Abbey, one of the four great abbeys built in Scotland’s border country during the Middle Ages. It was established as a priory of Augustinian canons around 1138. We return to New Lanark for dinner and overnight. FRIDAY, JUNE 3 | BD

Day 13 · Edinburgh - Rosslyn Chapel

As we head into Edinburgh, we make a stop at Rosslyn Chapel, which was built by William Sinclair, a grand master of the Knights Templar. Some have suggested he erected it to house the Holy Grail. More recently, Rosslyn
