Echelford’s Literacy & Art Week This week the children have enjoyed taking on the role of an artist and an author each day. Classrooms have been filled with drama, role play, film making and debate to inspire their creative writing based on one of the magical traditional tales which we all know so well. Children have also studied famous artists to inspire their own masterpieces in the same style. Anticipation for Monday's Big Book Launch and Art Exhibition Evening has been building throughout the week, with children putting a lot of thought into their plans, sketches and continuous editing, demonstrating perseverance towards their final creation. We hope to see as many of you as possible where you will have the opportunity to read your child’s book, browse artwork and relax over light refreshments. The event will be taking place at the following times and we ask that if you have children in different year groups across two key stages that you choose a time to attend with all of your children together. EYFS, Year 1 and Year 2 Year 3 and Year 4 Year 5 and Year 6

Skip2Bfit visit – Wednesday 23rd November On Wednesday John from Skip2BFit came into school to lead skipping workshops with our Key Stage 2 children. He showed us how to make sure the ropes were the correct length and how to use the counters on the rope. He then explained how important it is to get into a good skipping rhythm after which the children then had to complete a 2 minute skipping challenge. After discussing their scores John told the children that the main thing is aiming to improve so a second challenge was undertaken! The 'Top Bananas' of the day were Freddie Woods (6R) with 341 skips and Miss Oliver with 227 skips. The day culminated with a skip off between Connie Martin (5J) and Miss Oliver which resulted in a draw of 108 skips in 1 minute. Thank you to all of the children and adults for being so enthusiastic throughout the sessions and we hope to continue improving our scores throughout the year. Anti-bullying Week 2016 Last week, children across the school learnt about anti-bullying through their assemblies and PSHE lessons. Class 6R looked at engaging and positive ways to promote anti-bullying. In small groups, they created mini films, wrote their own raps and designed creative posters in order to encourage children to SPEAK OUT about bullying. In addition to this, they worked incredibly hard as a class to create their very own 'Anti-bullying Mannequin Challenge' in line with the current internet craze - it's fantastically powerful! Please take a look at their brilliant video on the school website in the 'News & Events' section. http://www.echelfordprimary.co.uk/news/?pid=336&nid=6&storyid=138 Children in Need Fundraiser - Friday 18th November 2016 On Friday 18th November, the school was filled with smiles and laughter as the children donned their pyjamas and onesies in aid of raising money for BBC's Children in Need. This fantastic event led to us raising a grand total of £574.40 for this incredible campaign. Thank you to everyone that took part and donated! Mufti Day in aid of our Christmas Fair - Friday 2nd December Next Friday children will be able to come to school dressed in their own clothes in aid of our Christmas Fair. In order to wear their own clothes we ask that children bring in a donation on the morning of the 2nd as follows –

Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 – “Little Treasures”

Please can each child fill an empty jar/polystyrene cup with items they would like to win themselves, such as wrapped sweets, pocket toys, mini-stationery, stickers or other fun items. For health and hygiene reasons we cannot accept jars containing loose sweets. Jars can be decorated in a Christmas theme by your child with stickers, shiny paper or little drawings if you so wish. These jars always look wonderful on the Little Treasures Tombola and it is our most popular stall by far.

Year 3-6 – “Chocolate Tombola items”

We would be grateful for a donation for our chocolate tombola such as Christmas tubes of chocolates, selection boxes, chocolate coins, boxes of chocolate, etc. All items must be in date and unopened.

You will be able to drop off your donations direct to the PTA at designated collection tables that will be open from 8.30am-9am on 2nd in the following areas –  Reception, Yr1 & Yr2: Next to the bike sheds  Years 3-6: Next to the main KS2 playground gate Focus on Courtesy This week's theme has been ‘deference’, a subtle quality to master but one which the children have displayed in lovely ways around school this week such as helping another child out if needed, allowing someone to go ahead them in the lunch queue if two children arrive at the same time, holding the door open to others and asking politely if a question can be repeated. Governors There are governor vacancies on our local governing bodies of both Saxon and Riverbridge Primary and we are keen to recruit members of our local communities to fill them. The commitment is three formal meetings a year + focused visits looking at particular aspects of provision and reporting insight back to myself as Executive Principal as well as the governing body. If you would like to know more about the role or are aware of someone else in the community who might be interested, please could you complete the slip attached and return it to the school office by Fri 16th December? Once we have your information we will organise a meeting with myself and one of the Directors to discuss the role and what it entails in more detail. Achievements outside of school If your child would like to celebrate success within the school community, please inform your class teacher or the office staff of your news.

PTA Cake Sale Update A big thanks to everyone who came along to support the Reception Year cake sale last Friday. The total amount raised was a fantastic £250! This money will be given to the three Reception classes for them to use as they see fit. The next cake sale will be held by Year 1 on Friday 13th January when they will be raising funds for 1B, 1M and 1SB. Reception Christmas Production DVDs The PTA have arranged for Reception children to be filmed in their very first school Nativity Play on Tuesday 29th November at 2pm. Each DVD will cost £8, with £6 going towards the making of the DVD and £2 towards school funds. There will be an opportunity after each performance (29th November at 2pm and Wednesday 30th November at 9:30am) to sign up to receive a DVD and make a cash payment. If you are not attending either of the shows and would like to purchase one or more DVDs, please provide the school office with an envelope containing the name and class of your child and the correct payment in cash by the morning of Friday 2nd December. The DVD(s) will be sent home with your child on Tuesday 6th December. Christmas Discos – Friday 2nd December, 4-4:45-6pm and 6:15-7:30pm Ticket requests are being processed for this event and will be sent home with your children on Monday 28th November. If you do not receive a ticket and believe you should have done, please email us at [email protected]. Tickets should be presented on arrival at the disco to ensure speedy entry for all. If your ticket is lost or forgotten, we will have a list of ticket holders on the door and will check your child off the list; this may result in a slight delay in getting them into the disco so should be avoided where possible by bringing along your ticket.  We would ask that with the exception for those children attending straight from after school clubs, parents take all coats away with them and bring them back at pick up time.  Prompt collection from the Gym is required, and parents will NOT be allowed into school before the above pick up time.  Children will be given a drink, crisps, biscuits and popcorn during the event. Please ensure that if your child has ANY allergies or special requirements we are notified in advance so that we can ensure a safe fun event for all.  Parents are kindly requested to remind their children that this event is for the enjoyment of all and that there

will be younger, smaller children present. All children should refrain from fast running, play fighting and rough play.

Mini Christmas Fair – Tuesday 13th December, 3:30-5pm Our Christmas fair will see each year group running two stalls each (helpers permitting). We still urgently require donations of good quality unused gifts, toiletries, books, food and drink that the children can select as presents on the "no parents allowed" stall. Donations can be left at the school office on Mondays and Fridays only. Please email [email protected] if you are able to assist with setting up and/or running a stall on 13th December. Any time you can spare would be appreciated and go towards making the event as successful as possible. Without your help some stalls may not run. Christmas Raffle – £200 cash and many other prizes The draw is taking place on Tuesday 13th December at the Christmas fair, so please keep selling tickets and ensure all stubs and correct monies are returned to the school office by Monday 12th December (tickets will still be available to purchase at the fair). Some of the fantastic prizes on offer include £200 cash, family portrait sessions, meal vouchers, hairdressers cut and blow dry, beauty vouchers and a personal training session.
