Year in Review from the Assistant Director The fraternity and sorority community at Stockton University experienced a year of great achievement and exponential growth during the 2015-2016 academic year. This was due to the hard work each of our students and incredible support of our campus partners. Some of the highlights from this year are:
41% increase in overall membership bringing the community to 10% of the University’s undergraduate population 38% of Greeks made the Dean’s List Over $86,000 was raised for charity 6 students attended the Northeast Greek Leadership Association Conference in Hartford, Connecticut Stockton hosted the 3rd annual Cultural Greek Leadership Conference The Stockton fraternity and sorority community was recognized on the Gamma Sigma Alpha National Greek Academic Honor Society Honor Roll for Academics 12 Greeks participated in Alternative Spring Break for Habitat for Humanity Over 64 unique non-profit organizations and communities were provided service and philanthropic dollars from the Stockton fraternity and sorority community
As you read through the report, it is my hope that you will celebrate the successes as well as the challenges that were presented over the course of this year. As we prepare for a new year, we know that there is much to be proud of and more to accomplish within this community. Fraternally, Joseph Thompson, Assistant Director of Student Development
FRATERNITY & SORORITY LIFE ANNUAL REPORT 2015 - 2016
Retention Rates and Fraternity & Sorority Membership This year, Student Development partnered with the Office of Institutional Research to begin reviewing the impact of fraternity and sorority membership on student retention at Stockton. Nationally, the retention rates from freshman to sophomore year are higher for fraternity and sorority members than their non-member peers. In addition, four and six-year graduation rates are nationally higher for those who join fraternities and sororities. We wished to see if this was true of Stockton’s population. The last cohorts that were analyzed were 2009 (for 6-year graduation rates) and 2011 (for 4-year graduation rates). Here is what was discovered:
On average, the freshman to sophomore cohort retention rate for Stockton fraternity and sorority members (those who joined as freshmen) is 99% vs. the Stockton average of 86%. The 4-year graduation rate for Stockton fraternity and sorority members who belonged in the first-time cohort over the last two years analyzed are 68% and 55%, respectively, vs. the overall first-time cohort’s 51% and 53% over the same period. The 6-year graduation rate for Stockton fraternity and sorority members ranged from 86% to 94% between 2005 and 2009, comparing favorably to the range of 66% to 73% for the overall firsttime cohorts. Special thanks to the Office of Institutional Research for their work on this project.

FRATERNITY & SORORITY LIFE ANNUAL REPORT 2015 - 2016
Fraternity & Sorority Awards and Recognition The Stockton Fraternity & Sorority Awards are designed to provide an objective assessment of a chapter’s performance. The evaluation process for these awards is completed through active reporting and nominations that are submitted online. This process is implemented not as a competition, but as a way for every chapter to measure their growth as an organization on an annual basis. The opportunity for recognition is provided to chapters that excel in the areas of academics, service, and Greek unity. Distinguished Chapters Distinguished Chapter honors are given only to chapters who earn high marks in all five areas of focus on the Stockton accreditation program, the Growth & Recognition Plan: academic achievement, leadership development, chapter operations, programming, and risk reduction. This year’s recipients of Chapter of Distinction are: Delta Zeta Sigma Sigma Sigma Greek Academic Award Delta Delta Delta Delta Zeta Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
