General economic situation in France: improving  In January, households’ opinion about the future general economic situation in France improved again: the corresponding balance gained 4 points compared to December, after a similar increase last month. Their opinion about the past general economic situation also increased (+2 points). These two balances remained however distinctly below their long term average. Future unemployment: fears increasind  Households were once again more concerned regarding future employment. The corresponding balance gained 4 points in January, after falling by 9 points in December. It still stood above its long term average. Inflation’s appreciation: decreasing  In January, households’ assessment of past inflation decreased (-6 points). However households expectations about future inflation were stable. Both balances remained above their long term average.

French Tourism Market News Long‐haul destination: USA in positive   The trend is oriented on the long haul, with an increase of passenger up to 3% and 5% in sales volume. The USA is the only one destination recording a positive increase (+36% in terme of business volume and 18% in passenger number). (L’Echo Touristique – Le Quotidien du Tourisme)

Mobile survey, a trend increasing  On travel trends for this new year, Expedia emphasizes the significance of the mobile phone. Used to plan their trips, it will serve for travel arrangements, booking of airline tickets through the hotel and the calculation of its path. With the exponential growth of Wi-Fi hot spots, nothing is easier than to connect to mobile and traveling. At the end of 2013 according Expedia.fr, 82% of French people did their travel reservation last minute on mobile. (Le Quotidien du Tourisme) Worldwide tourism organisation (OMT) survey  Especially attracted by Europe and Asia, tourists traveling abroad were more numerous in the world in 2013 to nearly $ 1.1 billion, an increase of 5%, according to the World Organization Tourism Organization (WTO). The Asia and Pacific region has it the highest relative growth, with 6% of tourists traveling from one country to another (14 million), to reach a total of 248 million. The Southeast Asia is displayed the strongest (10%) in this region progression. Africa has attracted 6% of international tourists in 2013 (13 million) to the "new record of 56 million" visitors. Growth for the Americas region (+4%). (Le Quotidien du Tourisme) United‐States Tourism Activity  The American Congress decided to increase security tax on passengers in its Finance Act, 2014. For the business travelers, the security tax on air passengers will go from 2.50 to 5.60 dollars in July. Unlike the first evidence submitted by the Grench Press Agency (AFP), Congress has included the rise of the air charge in the Finance Act 2014. The objective of this fund is to increase security spending TSA up to 43% instead of 30% currently. (DéplacementsPros.com – Le Quotidien du Tourisme) E‐Tourism  In 2013, e-tourism has increased by 3%. In total, French have made more than 600 million online transactions over the past year, for an amount of $51.1 billion. The total volume of orders is displayed up 13.5% year on year, while the number of transactions jumped him 17.5%. The average basket reached 84.50 euros, its lowest level since the index was created in 2005. Airline Companies survey  Passengers arriving or departing to the United States reached a record 185.4 million last year, up 4% compared to 2012. According to statistics released January 29, 2014 by the Office of Industries Travel and Tourism (OTTI), this total includes 104.4 million of foreign passengers (56.3%), all international travelers who flew 53 1% on U.S. airlines and 46.9% other.

Competitors Destinations Massachusetts The Massachusetts Office of Tourism has launched the new version of its website in French: www.visitmass.fr. The objective is to continue to promote Boston and the State of Massachusetts with French visitors and help them to better prepare their stays in this state in the north-east U.S. The portal is to share the rich heritage and diverse landscapes of Massachusetts by its aesthetics and its interactive content. The bright and modern design of the site allows them to discover the new visual identity of the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism. Visitors will find this new user-friendly site with tourist information and suggestions on Boston thematic routes in the state of Massachusetts. (La Quotidienne)

  Thailande  Three weeks before the February holidays, sales are almost done for the majority of tour operators, while the first trends are already emerging to leave for the Spring season. Thailand is now appreciated by the French, despite the rather alarming echoes of the press on anti-government protests. Visitors also achieved good scores on the United States, Tanzania, Peru and Mexico. (Tourmag) Brazil   According Expedia.fr, 2014 is the year of Brazil. Brazil, Thailand and the Maldives are the destinations that have the highest number of searches at the beginning of the year. In 2013, the most booked destinations were France, the United States and Italy. Expedia have noted a rising searches around Brazil for a holiday in the sign of the sport, who are assisted by qualified team of France. (Le Quotidien du Tourisme)

Airlines / Airports Air France‐KLM  Air France - KLM reported last month a 3.2% increase in passenger business to finish 2013 with 78,444,000 passengers carried (1.3%). On the Americas network, traffic rose 6.5% for capacity up by 6.3%. (Air Journal – Le Quotidien du Tourisme - Tourmag) American Airlines – U.S Airways  In December 2013, the consolidated American Airlines traffic rose by 5% compared to the same period last year, with capacity up 1.1%. The company reported a load factor of 83.3% overall consolidated, an increase of 3.1 percentage points compared to December 2012. (Déplacement Pros) Lufthansa  The airline company Lufthansa will deploy during the summer a second Boeing 747-8i daily between Frankfurt and Los Angeles. From May 22nd to October 25th, 2014, the German national airline will replace the usual 747-400 by 747-8i on the second daily rotation between its base and the Californian airport. (Air Journal)

Aéroports de Paris (ADP)  In 2013, French airports beat a new traffic record with more than 2% growth. Making it, according to their leaders, one of the most dynamic and growth-sectors of the national economy. (Le Quotidien du Tourisme)

Tour Operators and Travel Agencies Heliades and Crystal TO  The tour operator will program products on destinations served by the home airline company, XL Airways. The tour operator will propose an offer on the United States for the summer 2014 season. Escorted coach tours, fly drive itineraries, packages will be proposed in addition to flights to New York, Miami, Las Vegas, San Francisco and Los Angeles. (Tour Hebdo) Backroads  The tour operator Back Roads, established in 1994, is celebrating its 20th anniversary. The production is still progressing, especially in the West Coast. In 2013, they have had more than 2,000 clients. Most are repeaters and this is partly why they are trying to diversify their offer. They also stopped this year the edition of their paper brochure because they will develop their website. (Tourmag) Salaün Holidays Salaün organized from January 10th to 12nd the 14th Convention of employees to informe about their 2013 balance sheet and their perspective for 2014. On just this past year, the family business, which transports more than 200,000 clients, posted a consolidated turnover of 222 million euros, including 90 million business volumes only on the tour operating part, that is to say, up sales of 7.6% compared to 2012. Indeed, Salaün noted for 2013 an increase of almost 10% of its business volume and number of pax increased by almost 5%. Results are confirmed by the long-haul operations. The volume of sales increased in 2013 by almost 13% compared to last year. (Tour Hebdo)   Voyages Leclerc  In a press release, Bernard Boisson, Voyage Leclerc CEO, announces a "very satisfactory" year 2013 for its travel agencies network. Voyages Leclerc recorded an increase in its business volume by 5.3% in 2013. The branch network carries 95% of the volume tourism with Tour operators referenced. (Le Quotidien du Tourisme – Tourmag)

Vacances Transat The average price per package increased from 1,176 euros ($1,604) in 2012 to 1,240 euros ($1,691) in 2013, which allow to increase its margins and thus show a profit of 4.5 million ($5,500,600) compared to the disastrous rate recorded in 2012. Leant to “Rêves d’Amériques”, which features 11 new excellent circuits, the production is considerably muscled, under the leadership of Armelle the Scaon and should consolidate the base of the group that is as objective a 2014 global revenues of EUR 510 million ($695,589,000). FTI Three new brochure of FTI (2 dedicated to medium-haul programs and 1 to the long-haul) are available from December 20, 2013 in all of its 3,165 partner agencies. With 289 products (stays, tours, self drive tours and islands combined) 31 destinations are highlighted. The USA have a very important place in the long-haul destination brochure. (La Quotidienne)

With 144 pages dedicated to the United States and Canada, Vacances Fabuleuses proposes a variety of escorted tours or à-la carte tours. Specially designed for exploring these great lands and go to meet people, the tour operator should satisfy the most demanding travel agencies. For summer 2014 Vacances Fabuleuses will explore new roads and proposes new tours.

Voyage Privé Voyage Privé still is head of the most powerful sites in December 2013. The number of sites of travel bookings are being multiplied, the comparison became the main activity of the user who seeks the most advantageous price. To hang the e-consumer, get his attention, the visibility of the page of a website should be the fastest possible, how it will change interlocutor. Voyage-Privé guard the lead with the best availability (99.99%), and time to complete the display of the fastest panel homepage with 2.04 seconds. A beautiful performance as Voyage-Privé was in 5th place in October and the first position in November. (Tourmag)

Plein Vent The low cost Fram tour operator offers a shock campaign, divertising and fun on the subject of price. This major campaign features TV spots to be broadcast on several channels of the French channel group France Télévision from Friday 31st until February 6th. In total, the tour operator provides over 2000 spots and hopes to reach 17 million people. (Le Quotidien du Tourisme)

FTI Voyages  On January 23th, Visit California partnered with FTI for a workshop organized in Saint Germain en Laye. This event was organized at the occasion of the launch of their new long haul destination brochure that includes California.

35 travel agents attendeed the event FTI Group consits on 13 brands which represents a wide range of differents products and know-how.
